Re: Best Bluetooth speaker
You know That depends on what you want. I looked at speakers at Best buy and Undoubtedly the big doctor dray machine was the biggest and baddest out there for $400. On the other end the bose color is a real nice Hotel room speaker for $129. So it really depends on what you want. Going Retro I liked my bose sound dock that I left on the train last year. Boy Some one got a reall nice gift. Any way they still make the sound doc and in my opinion That was the best portable sound system made. - Original Message - From: Sunshine sunsh...@abe.midco.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, January 10, 2015 2:03 AM Subject: Re: Best Bluetooth speaker Price is no matter i am looking for the absoultly best out there. the doctor dray was a big afair with two big handles one on each side. The quality may not be audio file but It does play loud. The reason I didn't look at it is it took 8-10 batterys to work it like the old Boomboxes. Re: Strange Problem With Ripping CD With CDEX
Windows media seems to find cds better than cdex or audio grabber. They seem to use a better data base. I like cdex but I can rip cds two at a time with windows media. Sometimes they all get it wrong however. I have never ripped with winamp but they seem to be able to find cd titles well to.
CD mixers I am at a cross roads.
I do live DJ work. I play music for parties and the like. My old Numark CD mixer is bighting the dust and I need to go in a different direction. I am trying to get away from playing CDs live from a CD mixer and putting my stuff on either a pc or a smart phone. Some new numark mixers seem to offer some help in that direction. I can get a mixdeck express which has duel CD drives and USB ports for hard drives, thumb drives etc.. You can all so plug this mixer in to a computer and use it as a DJ controller. The other way is a CD mixer with Bluetooth capability that will play audio from your smart phone. They say that the transport controls will work with the phone or laptop but they mention no DJ software to control your music with. I think just the audio and some limited key mapping is all you get with that mixer. I need to find a direction. Which deck would you recommend and what DJ software would you use to drive the mixer. I know that the mixdeck express will use something called surado dj and virtual dJ. And something called tractor. I don't know if you can use replay products or Sam DJ or zello, station play list any thing that I have had some success with when I have experimented with software in the past. I needd lots of help I have an android phone but have know idea how to connect a Hard drive to it. I could upload music to the cloud I suppose. I could use an Ipad or some sort of I device but I don't necessarily want to use I-tunes software. Lots of questions I know but there are some powerful brains on this list that can help me think on what to do.

Subject line displays the grim reality, was working away here when there was a crackle and the smell of smoke rising from the sub-woofer of my Altec Lansing Expressionist Ultra speaker system so that looks to be the end of those. I looked around for another pair but can't find them anywhere which is a shame as this system has been the best Computer speaker system I've owned. I then decided to do a little research, Google Is My Friend so I typed Best Computer Speakers in and found to my amazement a web page that lets you compare all sorts of atributes for computer speakers, size, wattage, controls, features and so on. From the little time I had to look at this page I found that the nearest competitor to the Altec Lansing Expressionist Ultra speaker system seemed to be the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks, audio specs seem the same except that the Sound Sticks only have a low end of 44HZ instead of 40HZ for the Expressionist Ultra speaker system, nothing to worry about then in that area, both speakers have a top frequency of 20KHZ. The only other annoyance about the Sound sticks was that the controls were on the speakers themselves - volume was on 1 speaker and volume for the sub-woofer was on the woofer -, yes an annoyance but not a critical point, something that wouldn't turn me off buy this speaker setup. So has anyone had any experience with the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks and what do you think or perhaps you have another recommendation or - even better - perhaps you know of where I can get another Altec Lansing Expressionist Plus speaker system smile. ** Dane Trethowan Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

The speech is some of the worst I have heard in my 30 years of computer use. I was not able to receive any FM stations on its radio. I could write a long treatise on what this unit should do as opposed to what it really does, but I won't. Suffice it to say that navigation and response are erratic. When a few folders are loaded on to the device, it will likely quit responding, leading to running down its battery. I truly dislike writing negative things, but I have to do so in this case. If you go to the Braille Super Store website, be sure to look for the company's return policy. Among many unbblievable things, you'll read that none of its products are warrantied. Two standard xlr male to female cables connect from the eq to two nearfield active studio monitors, adam audio a7x's. The power is grounded on all three-pronged plugs. I have an internal soundcard which is an m-audio delta 1010 lt. That's the audio side of things, here comes the computer side of the equation. a thermaltake atx mid-tower case holds an asus wd5 delux motherboard, don't quote me on the exact name. The hard drives, there are 3, are all sata 2 drives, 2 500 gb drives and a 1.5 tb drive. The two 500 gb drives are a few years old, they make more noise than the 1.5 tb drive. The catch is that one of them is my main drive for program files and the like, so I don't want to put it in an enclosure. The other two could be taken out and enclosed. My main concern is editting, the feedback won't get through to the digital transfers, but I'm not sure if I can deal with this high pitched noise, it's a high b-flat. Removing cratches from CDS.
I don't know if this info found you so I will try it again. Clear kote makes a really good cd cleaning product called Disk Restorer. . I have heard of a product called CD Dr. I have used both Armerall and tooth paste. I think cleaning a cd really good with dawn is a really good solution. I have used the clear kote disk restorer on CDs that wouldn't even boot up and it worked great restoring the Boot table of the cd. If I fix a cd I make a coppy of the cd to back it up. Re: matching synthesizer volume to mic volume
yes you need to turn down your microphone volume from the playback side. not the record side. you have to un mute your microphone from the playback side and also adjust your output levelfrom there when you are using the what you here option. it would be better if you used a mixer. - Original Message - From: tim cumings thcumi...@comcast.net To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, July 11, 2009 1:27 PM Subject: matching synthesizer volume to mic volume I'm trying to record and have my speech synthesizer come through the recording along with my microphone. It contains a number of directional microphone elements and electronically selects whichever element provides the best speech quality for individuals around a conference table, while canceling out unwanted noise. It seems to also be useful for speech recognition applications when you don't want to be tied to a headset. The $250 price tag is a little too steep just to play around with, but for someone who has a particular need, I guess it could be justified. I didn't look for a better price or any reviews. Re: short Wave radio questions
Johnathan there you go spending my money again. Shame on you.- Original Message - From: Jonathan Mosen [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, March 23, 2008 2:25 AM Subject: RE: short Wave radio questions Recently my Sangean AS909 gave up the ghost, so I did some research on what's out there. In the end I chose the Eton E1, made by Grundig. In the US, there is a version of the Eton E1 that also offers XM capability. The E1 is the best receiver I've owned since my good old Sony 2010, and there really is no other portable out there that came close on specs. The wide filter makes broadcast AM sound fantastic. Even for AM though, you do need to have the antenna extended. Here's some of what universal Radio has to say about it. The Etón E1 XM (originally announced as the Grundig Satellit 900) is the world's first radio that combines AM, FM, shortwave and XM Satellite radio into one ultra high-performance unit. In development for nearly ten years, in collaboration with RL Drake Company and XM Satellite Radio, the E1 XM is simply the finest full-sized portable in the world. The E1 is an elegant confluence of performance, features and capabilities. The look, feel and finish of this radio is superb. The solid, quality feel is second to none. The digitally synthesized, dual conversion shortwave tuner covers all shortwave frequencies. Adjacent frequency interference can be minimized or eliminated with a choice of three bandwidths [7.0, 4.0, 2.5 kHz]. The sideband selectable Synchronous AM Detector further minimizes adjacent frequency interference and reduces fading distortion of AM signals. IF Passband Tuning is yet another advanced feature that functions in AM and SSB modes to reject interference. AGC is selectable at fast or slow. High dynamic range permits the detection of weak signals in the presence of strong signals. All this coupled with great sensitivity will bring in stations from every part of the globe. Organizing your stations is facilitated by 500 user programmable presets with alpha labeling, plus 1200 user definable country memories, for a total of 1700 presets. You can tune this radio many ways such as: direct shortwave band entry, direct frequency entry, up-down tuning and scanning. Plus you can tune the bands with the good old fashioned tuning knob (that has new fashioned variable-rate tuning). There is also a dual-event programmable timer. Whether you are listening to AM, shortwave, FM or XM, you will experience superior audio quality via a bridged type audio amplifier, large built in speaker and continuous bass and treble tone controls. Stereo line-level output is provided for recording or routing the audio into another device such as a home stereo. The absolutely stunning LCD has 4 levels of backlighting and instantly shows you the complete status of your radio. Many receiver parameters such as AM step, FM coverage, beep, kHz/MHz entry etc., can be set to your personal taste via the preference menu. The E1 XM has a built in telescopic antenna for AM, shortwave and FM reception. Additionally there is a switchable antenna jack [KOK] for an external antenna. There are jacks for Line Input, Line Output, earphones, and external speaker. The E1 XM comes with an AC adapter or may be operated from four D cells (not included). 13.1 x 7.1 x 2.3 inches 4 lbs. 3oz. Assembled in India. This model is not available for export. 1. XM Satellite Radio ready 2. Continuous Shortwave with Selectable Single Sideband (SSB) Reception 3. Dual Conversion Superheterodyne Circuit Design 4. Digitally Synthesized PLL Tuner with Synchronous Detector 5. Passband Tuning and Selectable Bandwidth Filters 6. 1700 Station Presets with Memory Scan Function 6. Direct Keypad Entry 7. 5.7 inches Oversized Illuminated Multi-Function Dot-Matrix LCD Screen 8. Stereo Line-Level Audio Inputs/Outputs and External Antenna Connections 9. Dual Clocks and Programmable Timers 10. Adjustable Snooze/Sleep 11. Separate Bass and Treble Controls 12. Programmable preference settings Note: The CNP2000 CNP2000H XM module and docking units are available separately. Both are required for XM reception along with an XM activation and monthly subscription fee. E1 users should order the CNP2000 DUO to obtain both pieces. What's also good is that this radio is pretty accessible. Obviously some memorising is involved because we don't have access to the display, however the menu system can be accessed via the keypad, so for example you know that to toggle between stereo and mono mode on FM, you press the menu key followed by 21. I have a cheat sheet on my PAC mate that contains all these codes, and it does allow me to configure the radio, for instance when I travel to the US and need to set it for 10 khz spacing. This radio isn't pocket sized by any means. But it is still portable and it sounds sweet, You can find many reviews of the E1 praising its selectivity and

Is there currently a problem with the order form or am I just gonna have to be stuck with this silly 30 day trial? BTW I was atempting to purchase the standard addition because that really is all I need, plus it wasn't really made clear as to what the professional version was, so I figured I would just go with the standard one. Again, I've entered all the information correctly, or at least, it sure looks like it's correctly but when i hit the next button, i just keep going back to the same page with all the information I just entered already in the edit boxes. There are a lot of things about me that are, well, just plain weird. One of those weirdnesses is that I have had the extreme misfortune to have been born with ear canals that seem to want to spit out earbuds. I can't seem to keep the darned things in, and frankly, they drive me insane, but my 16-year-old nephew tells me I'm committing a terrible fashion faux pas by wearing my old clunky, but much more comfortable and in my humble opinion much better-sounding, headphones that I used with my old portable stereo. I'm hoping you guys can recommend a good brand of earbuds. I typically have been using the ones that come with whatever digital player I buy, but I'm not satisfied with them anyway, not just because they are constantly falling out of my ears, but also because they sound terrible. Re: buying a new cd drive, some questions
lots of people like the nec drives. I have one of the liteon dvd drives and while I don't like its performance while extracting a dvd I do like its cd burn feature. It works as well as my old liteon does. I have the same drive you have and I have put it in three different machines and it is still going. - Original Message - From: Larry Higgins [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, June 30, 2007 10:01 AM Subject: buying a new cd drive, some questions Hi listers, It looks like my Lite-On drive of a bit over three years is on the fritz. I have tried running a cd cleaner from memorex through the thing a number of times, but no major improvement if any when it comes to the consistent reading of cds, so I'm going to buy another drive. Since the trend has gone to dvd drives, I am a bit concerned as to what I should be on the look out for as it concerns working with my version of Nero 6. I don't want to get home with a drive, only to find out that it will not be compatible with my burning software. And, I really like Nero, but don't really want to have to invest another 80 bucks or so for an upgrade. After all, that price may be twice that of the driver unit. Anyway, if anybody can shed any helpful light on my above stated concerns, I will be eternally grateful. Now, I doubt that I will be watching any movies with this new drive. I'm only planning to maybe back up files to a dvd disc on occasion, but there's always that eventuality. Is there a drive that will work well with both standards, and how much should such a drive set me back? Oh well, guess that's it. If anybody can come up with any possible concerns that I should be aware of in making such a switch, please let me know. does it act as an external hard drive when you plug it in? - Original Message - From: Kevin Lloyd [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, June 17, 2007 8:55 AM Subject: Re: Creative Zen V Plus Hi. Can't say that I've seen this player but I do own a creative zen 20 gig player that has the same features. The zen 20 gig has touch controls and is menu driven but it is possible to get around with a little effort. The reason I mention this player is that I bought a remote control for my zen which makes it easier to use and particularly with the radio. The remote doesn't help with the menu structure but it does have a dedicated button for toggling the player between radio and mp3 playback and it has next track, previous track, pause, play, stop and volume up and down. This means that you can lock the player itself and drive it completely from the remote until you need to dive into the menus to maybe choose another playlist or album, genre etc. The remote looked pretty universal for creative players so may work with this new player or they'll maybe have a new one that will. When turning off my shuffle, I always paused playback and slid the switch to the off position. With the zen stone, I simply hold down the play button until it appears to power down. I don't pause playyback first. Could this keep it from shutting down entirely, and therefore, be the cause of my rapidly draining battery? Thanks! How do you think this makes it more inconvenient? Are you thinking it's more inconvenient than something which has a rechargeable battery in it but uses an AC adapter to charge it? If so, I'm thinking whether you plug it into a USB port or an AC outlet, it would all be the same. I guess though AC outlets are still more ubiquitous than USB ports. If I go on vacation, like a cruise, I'd still have to bring my laptop just to recharge my Creative Zen Stone. If you're comparing it to something which takes batteries then I guess it would be more inconvenient, when the battery runs down, you have to tether yourself to an electrical outlet or a USB port while it's charging, but if it took batteries, you could just pop a fresh battery in and go. I guess for the price, you could always buy two! OK never mind, you're right, I can see where it would be a bit nor inconvenient! I'm still asking for one for Father's Day though! I have the Creative MuVo with 128M of memory, and having something that's supposed to be just as easy to use, but with 1GB of memory is just too appealing. Plus I see it's size and the fact that it has rechargeable batteries as providing it's own conveniences. I don't have to worry about spare batteries or carrying two separate cords. I need help installing rockbox
Hello. I am working with an iaudio x5. Here is what I have done. I went to the rockbox site and downloaded the boot loader two Firmware. the file was x5fw.bin. Next I went and got the rockbox software for the x5. The file was called rockbox.zip. I unzipped the Rockbox software to the root directory and It created a folder called rockbox. I then went and got a voice file and installed it in the langs directory in the rock box folder. I went and installed the fonts directory after the player didn't work right the first time and still nothing. I didn't copy the rockbox.iaudio to the root however. I let the firmware update the player and turned the player on. Now the player speaks a bit but It is like it is stuck in the main menu and not the play menu or the folder view menu where it should be. What Am I doing wrong? Could some one send me the necessary files to do this job or do I have the corect files? I was able to put the old firmware back on but I would really like to install rockbox and have it work. If I get my friends player right I plan to buy my own. Then, if you have the latest daily build, which is what you need, for the IAudio X5, copy and paste the .rockbox directory into the root and put the english.voice, again from a daily build, into the langs directory. The broadcast frequency of the transmitter is selected up or down using 2 push buttons on the unit. If the unit is unplugged, and it has no battery, the frequency resets to 107.5 Mhz. You can use this trick if you lose track of the frequency setting and cannot find it broadcasting on your radio. The selection wraps down to 87.5 (I think) if you press the up button when the transmitter is at 107.5. My experience with the C-Crane transmitter is that it could not even broadcast across a room as shipped by the company. I had to use a well known tweak that says to peal off the label on the back, and turn the output control all the way up to get a good signal. After this tweak, I can pick up the signal all over my apartment. Regarding wireless speakers, Advent sells several models of 900Mhz wireless speakers. I think the models are aw810, aw820 and aw870. They have a very long range. You can either buy 2 speakers and set them to left and right stereo, or buy one speaker and set it to mono. These speakers are widely available on the internet. You can either get an inexpensive pre-amp that will boost the low level of a magnetic phono cartridge and equalize it correctly and feed the output of that pre-amp to the line input of your sound card! Then, all you need is a sound editing program, such as Gold Wave, or Groove Mechanic wich is designed for recording vinyl! An alternative solution, if there is no way to get a turntable in the same area as the PC, is if you already have a fairly good quality stereo system, with a turntable and a cassette deck, you can first record the vinyl LP's on to a good quality cassette and then, plug a cassette deck into your PC's sound card and record that way! Since I have my stereo system set up right here along with my computers, I just feed my main pc's second sound card into the tape monitor loop of my reciever, so I can record anything that I wish onto the hard drive! Re: Devices for Recording LP's and 45's to Digital
what you have is a ground loop. Radio shack sells a special isolating transformer that goes between the preamp and the pc. It costs about $15 and comes with all cables to connect it to the pc. - Original Message - From: Gary Petraccaro [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Wednesday, January 10, 2007 4:21 AM Subject: Re: Devices for Recording LP's and 45's to Digital I have a preamp for a turntable, but get 60-Hz hum even when grounded. I have two ground wires from turntable to preamp and from preamp to computer case. Any ideas? Thanks. - Original Message - From: Don Ball To: PC audio discussion list.
