Copying and pasting audio CD data to be burned by Nero

2005-02-04 Thread Kathy Szinnyey/Fred Otto
Hi, groovy listers! Okay. I want to compile a CD from several audio CDs
and burn them with Nero, or even Windows XP Exploer. I was told I could
copy and paste the data from the CDA files into a folder on the hard drive
and then just burn the folder on Nero as an audio disc. But when I check to
see if the audio data is really there, it doesn't appear to be. It looks as
if I'm just copying the name of the track and not the ctual data; e.g. one
file just had 44 bytes. Is there a way to put all my audio tracks into one
folder for Nero to burn without my having to run and grab each CD when Nero
wants to burn each track?

Lazy but attempting to be efficient,
Kathy

Subject: Nero MP3 CD

Hi,
I notice that under the burn options for Music CD, there is an option hat
says MP3 CD. I've burned data CDs with MP3 files on them, and I've made
regular audio, CDDA format, CDs using MP3 files. So, , exactly what does
this MP3 option under the Music CD do?

Hi,
you must rip the audio CD first.
that means use a program to convert the .cda files to .mp3, then you may
put them in 1 folder so you can copy them to clipboard then start Nero
paste them in.
now to the other person with the mp3 CD question,
A MP3 CD will have a autorun file on it allowing it to play when you
insert it in your CD drive.

Capturing streams and burning an entire folder in nero

2005-02-01 Thread Kathy Szinnyey/Fred Otto
Good morning, listers! I have a couple of questions I'd like some help
with.

1. I have never attempted to record streaming audio on my hard drive and
would love the most basic help possible. I have Wimamp, Nero, the cheaper
/Sound Forge for starters and am using Jaws 5 point something or other. Is
there anywhere I can go to get the info?

2. Is there a way I can grab a whole folder in Nero and burn it without
having to select one file at a time. I want to make an audio disk of some
folders I have. I know how to select files but can't seem to get how to
just grab that whole folder to burn it.

Thanks for any help yous guys have!

Re: studio recorder.

2005-01-27 Thread Kathy Szinnyey/Fred Otto
It does work with music, but its settings and features are really geared for
voice recording. It has features such as sentence detection which are handy
for navigating through spoken word files. It does have a nice clean
interface, making it pretty easy to learn and use. And of course, it was
designed especially with screen access in mind, so there's no question about
it being speech friendly.

Okay, I give up! How do I get started with Goldwave

2005-01-09 Thread Kathy Szinnyey/Fred Otto
Hi, Gang! Well, I took some of yous guys's advice and downloaded the
Goldwave shareware to make its acquaintance. Short of going over this
manual about a hundred times, can somebody direct me as to how to navigate
around and edit a file? I know how to record something but don't know how
to stop the recording, and I don't know how to work with the file once I
have it. With Soundforge and Studio recorder, I can start playing a file,
stop and start it, select stuff using braces or the shift arrow keys, but
that doesn't seem to work in Goldwave!

The manual seems to have some very nice tutorials but I can't seem to find
the very most basic information a totally blind person can use. Any help
would be greatly appreciated, or if there are some blind-friendly links,
manuals, etc., that would be great, too. I'm just totally bumfuzzled!

Re: Okay, I give up! How do I get started with Goldwave

2005-01-09 Thread Kathy Szinnyey/Fred Otto
Thanks for this info. But, I guess I'm a bit dense. I've seen all these
controls but am not using them correctly. My sighted husband is just as
confused. Do you somehow have to go to the control window, I guess? I was
messing around with a file I opened up in Goldwave. I placed a bracket at
the beginning of where I wanted to make a change and a bracket at what I
thought was the end of shere I wanted to make a change. I was just running
some sort of effect to see if I was marking my file correctly. When I
planed back the file, I could hear where I had marked the beginning of the
effect, but I couldn't seem to hear where the end was, which makes me think
that for some odd reason I wasn't marking the end of that section of the
file correctly. Is this making sense?

Hi, gang! Thought I'd throw out this question to see if anyone else is
around who might have an answer. I set up JAWS to come out of my on-board
sound card, thanks to your wonderful help. And the rest of the sounds were
playing fine through my usb sound card. Well, that lasted for a day. Now,
everything comes through my on-board sound card, all the sounds, even when
the usb sound card is on. Is there some weird setting I've missed? Help!
And thanks!

Try the mic gain boost in recording properties--it says advanced controls
and check the 20 db mic boost.
Hope that helps

Hi all.
The subject line says it all. I have three mini-plugs on the back of my
computer. The first has my line-in attached to a minidisk. The second is
for my speakers, so I've plugged the microphone into the third socket.
I've
bumped everything up to 100% in the volume control of XP and did the same
to
the volume control within my sound card. However, the sound is very low.
Not an expensive microphone, but I'd have liked better. Perhaps there is
something else which I need to do. I'm using the microphone with
Goldwave.
Any advise would be very welcomed. Thanks.

Best wishes.
Andy from sunny Kilcreggan.

 Hi,

I use the c crane digital fm transmeter. I liked it so well I
bought a second one. It was seventy-nine dollars from c crane company,

Anyways,
the stations never drift and you can tune it to any available fm

I found my Irock at Radio Shack for about $30.
As far as I know, you have to go to Ccrane on-line or by phone to buy their
product. Their websit is:

Or call them at 1-800-522-8863
Funny, I've never bought anything from them, but I hear they're so ggod!

Odd thing with my two sound cards

2004-10-13 Thread Kathy Szinnyey/Fred Otto
Odd thing with my two sound cards
Hi, groovy people! Maybe there's some obscure setting I still need to
change, but here's what seems to be happening. I've set up JAWS to run
through my on-board sound card and (theoretically) everything else to run
through my usb Audigy sound card. When I boot up the computer, all the
sound, JAWS and all that other stuff, come through the on-board sound card.
Or sometimes the sounds come through the Audigy one, when I turn it on.
When I fiddle with the Audigy awhile (I can never really tell if the thing
is on or off, dang it) I eventually get JAWS to play through the on-board
one and everything to play through the Adigy one, but it seems to take some
fenagling. Any ideas.

YOu guys are the best!

Hi all,
I'm somewhat inexperienced and uninformed about this stuff, and I think
the
answer to my question is no, but I'll ask it anyway.

Can you take a standard audio CD and convert it to mp3 format? If so,
which
program works best for this? Also there are a number of different file
extensions but what is the file extension for a commercially purchased
audio
CD?

With your help, I'll get up-to-speed on this stuff one of these days. I
just don't have the time to spend on it that I would like to have.
Thanks much.

A radical idea for this group?

2004-06-15 Thread Kathy Szinnyey/Fred Otto
Hello PC Audio pals,
I'm wondering if anyone has considered making this list into an online forum rather
than an e-mail list? I am a regular participant in a forum on Worldcrossing.com and it
is really easy to use and access overall.

The difference is this, for those who aren't familiar with forums: You get on the
Internet and go to the Worldcrossing (or whatever) site. You log in with your name and
password. Then you see a list of ongoing discussion threads. When you visit a
thread, you can read all the posts or just the new ones since the last time you were
there. You can add your comments or questions and they'll be appended to those already
there. It's easy to start a new thread on a new topic, too. Rather than having many
e-mails a week on the same topics, such as Nero, Archos, mp3, Goldwave, and so on, you
find info on these all neatly grouped together.

Advantages of e-mail lists are: You don't have to go there, because the messages
just show up in your inbox.

Advantages of online forums: Your e-mail doesn't fill up with dozens of messages on
different topics; serves as a reference body because it collects information grouped
by topics rather than as widely scattered bits and pieces; has a more community
feel.

I also think people might get even better answers to their questions there, because 1)
they can sift through the threads to find previous answers to similar questions and 2)
the more knowledgeable folks in the group might be more inclined to answer a question
in depth there than on e-mail, where the question may come up again and again.

Just a thought. Thanks to all the folks here who offer their help to those of us who
need it!

Olympus dm1 and dm10

2004-06-10 Thread Kathy Szinnyey/Fred Otto
Hi again! My thanks and appologies for not remembering who sent that very

But I'm wondering if anyone knows if the dm10 is more similar to the dm1

user friendly? My biggest concern, besides being able to have access to the
functions, is that the ability to record voice in stero, which I'm guessing
all the dDM models do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not so
attached to Olympus, really, but so far it's the recorder that's caught my

pretty good. It is an imput plugin so the first thing you will want
to
   do
is once installed bring up the preferences and then configure it for

 You
   can

Shanon, the Olympus dm10 and dm1 are digital recorders, much like a cassette
recorder or minidisk recorder, and it also plays mp3's. And they appear to
be far cooler than cassettes or minidisks.

Re: Blind friendly Digital audio recording devices

2004-06-09 Thread Kathy Szinnyey/Fred Otto
Hi, all! Thanks for the advice. As I was looking at this Olympus DM-1 I
came upon something that blew my mind: the OlympusDM-20. Anyone know
anything about it and how useful it is for a blind person?

Hi, the archos seems a good bet, if you can get one of the older
models, they seem to be on ebay most of the time. Alternatively
something like the Olympus DM1, which is basically a Dictaphone, is
worth considering, as it can save what it records in MP3 format, and
it has an external mic socket. I don't know of any portable CD
recorders yet, but am willing to be corrected.

JAWS scripts for Soundforge 6.0

2004-05-30 Thread Kathy Szinnyey/Fred Otto
Okay, so I have a silly question. Since I moved from Windows 98 to XP and
JAWS 4.5 to 5.0621 or some such, my Soundfore 6.0 isn't particularly
accessible to me. Am I going to have to sign up for Yahoo groups to get
tthe JAWS scripts from FS tech support discussion lists, or is there some
other place I might go to find them? Or are there even any good scripts for
sf 6.0?

Thanks in advance for any help yous guys might have.

 Hi Ann,

I've used Total Recorder Standard to record cassettes into the computer.
To
make each individual track, with Total Recorder Standard, you have to stop
the cassette and save each track as a separate file. I've done that, but
that's one reason I went up to Total Recorder Professional Edition.

Hello,
What are the least expensive options for CD burning software you've come
across that are also speech-friendly? Thanks for your input.

Hi, all. First, thanks so much for all your input about downloads; I
use
winmx and have signed up for a trial of emusic, which I find quite
speech-friendly but doesn't have much of what I'm looking for. Anyway,
 I'm
wondering if anyone has had any experience with a site called
  Allofmp3.com
Looks fascinating but I'm a little leary.

  Thanks!

   Hi, try emusic at
   www.emusic.com
They will start you off with free stuff just for signing up, a and
 there
is another program that is called the
Emusic download manager that is arrow driven, but it's easy to figure
 out.

Joe, I haven't done this myself, but I found a function called
Save
split in the file menu. In the manual, they talk of split file,
 but
  I
haven't found a menu item with that name. Perhaps, it only is
shown,
when there are selections. I'd first try the save split function
of
  the
 file menu.

Re: sound editors

2004-05-24 Thread Kathy Szinnyey/Fred Otto
If you're focusing mostly on spoken word editing, Studio Recorder from APH
is great. Of course, it can do music too, but some of the best features are
specific to narration. The program was designed to be useful to blind folks,
so you don't have a lot of extraneous decoration to work around.
