I'm looking for software that will scan an mp3 file and fill in the tag info the way Winamp did.
Hi. One thing that Winamp used to do is have the ability to scan an mp3 file and fill in the tag info. This worked well even if there was no tag in the file. Unfortunately Winamp doesn't do this anymore. Is there a program to do what I want? This even worked if the file names were something like Track 01, Track 02, etc. Thanks for any info. Looking for a good USB or blue tooth microphone headset combo for my PC.
Hi. I'm happily using a USB sound card with a microphone hooked up to it. It does what I want, but I'm curious about headset/microphone combinations for the PC. The headset needs to be stereo. I'm looking for either USB or blue tooth options. Also, I need something that doesn't cost me the PC to get it. Thanks in advance for any information. Kevin Minor, Lexington, KY
RE: Need accessible music tagger
Hi. I'm also looking for a tagging program. Winamp was great, because you could have an empty tag, and it would fill it with what it thought was correct. It was sometimes way off, but for the most part it worked well. From my experience, programs like Mp3 Tag require some information in the tag to work. Too bad Sound Hound doesn't have a program for the PC. It has the basic features that would automate this work. Just curious. Kevin Minor, Lexington, KY

Does MP3 Tag work with Windows 8.1? If so, how do you install it, and if not, what is a good program to rename files from mp3 tags?
Hi. Until last week I was a happy user of Mp3 Tag. My Windows 7 laptop decided to no longer work, and I got a new laptop with Windows 8.1 on it. I tried to install Mp3 Tag onto it, but I got a message that my PC didn't meet the minimum requirements. If this program does work on Windows 8.1, where do I get it and how do I install it? If it doesn't work, can someone recommend a program to rename files from the mp3 tags? Thanks in advance for any ideas. Kevin Minor, Lexington, KY
Tagging mp3 files.
Hi. I moved the file with the info on Replay Music, so I'm writing a new message about what I want to do and what I found out about the program. By tagging a file, I'm wanting to get the title, artist, album and the year the track came out. I looked at the Replay Music program, but it looks like it's designed for streaming content. I already have the files on my PC, but they don't have anything in the metadata, and their titles are something like Track 01 or Audio Track 01. I looked at iTunes, and it looks like it may do what I want. I'll keep you updated. Thanks for the info. Kevin Minor, Lexington, KY kmino...@outlook.com
I tried Replay Music, and it didn't work.
Hi. I tried Replay Music to tag a file. The file had Track 1 as the artist, and I tried to tag the file. It didn't work. I'll see what iTunes does with it. Thanks for the idea. Kevin Minor, Lexington, KY kmino...@outlook.com
What program can I use to tag mp3 files?
Hi. I have some mp3 files that do not have any information for tagging. They're Track 1, and the like. I'm looking for something like the Winamp Auto tagger, which would tag these files. I've heard that Mp3 Tag will do this, but I think the files need to have some basic information in them to be tagged, and the files I have don't have anything in them. Thanks in advance for any info. What XM channel is broadcasting the Australian Open Tennis matches?
Hi. To make this PC related, I use an XM PCR which connects to a PC via the USB port. It's pretty nice, displaying title and artist of the channels. Unfortunately, thanks to the infinite wisdom of the RIAA, it's not being made anymore. They were afraid people could record the station's content to their hard drives. Oh well, that's to explain why I sent this to the PC-Audio list. My question is what channel on XM is broadcasting the Australian Open Tennis? I can get it through ESPN, but I'd like a play by play of what's going on, and last year when I tuned in it was pretty good. Thanks for any help. GO CATS, GO SEAHAWKS and GO BRONCOS! RE: Station Playlist add-on for NvDA: 1.0 public beta 1 is now available
Hi Joseph. The app for NVDA sounds good, but I have a question about it. I have used both JAWS and Window-Eyes to work with Studio. In each of these, when you checked the scheduled time a track would start, they reported the actual time a track would start, instead of reporting the track starting so far after the hour. For example, Let's say track 2 in the playlist starts 2 minutes after the hour. If I did a two minute and thirty second voice break, then resumed playback from that point, Window-Eyes and JAWS would report the correct time of 4 minutes and 30 seconds. The NVDA app still reported the track starting two minutes after the hour. All other tracks in JAWS and Window-Eyes would properly report all the track start times after this track would play. This came in handy to schedule the end of a show, or the start of the next hour. I hope the app for NVDA works in this case like the other screen readers I've used. I like to have as many options available as I can. Thanks for doing the work on the app for NVDA. Kevin Minor, Lexington, KY kmi...@windstream.net
Restating my questions was RE: Getting Winamp from Ninite.com was RE: Where do you get WinampPro? was RE: Winamp Shutting downonDecember20, 2013
Hi. I think people aren't understanding what I'm asking. I know Winamp will keep working after AOL stops supporting it. I have two things I'm wondering about. First, will it still be able to be retrieved from Ninite? When I got the updater for Winamp from Ninite, and I updated Winamp with it, it reported that Winamp was being downloaded. Where is this download coming from? If from the Ninite site, and there isn't any copyright issue with Winamp, then there should be no problem getting it that way. If Ninite is retrieving the update from the Winamp site, then it won't work anymore. Second, does AOL control the database Winamp uses for auto tagging? If not, then this feature should still work. If AOL does control this database, and they consider it a service for Winamp, this feature may not work after December 20. I hope this explains what I'm wondering about. I got the Winamp installer, so if I have to reformat this hard drive I still have a good copy to use to install it. We'll see what happens after December 20. RE: Normalize
I understood normalization of files would keep the lowest volume of a track the same relative to the highest (loudest) part of the track, so, if you normalize to 100%, the loudest part of the track would be at 100 %, whereas if a part of a file was 20 DB softer, it still would be 20 DB softer compared to the new volume of the file. That lower part wouldn't be leveled more easily. I thought that was what gain did. I could be totally wrong but it's how I understand things. Anybody know were to find MOD files, and a program to play them?
Hi. I used to have a fair number of these files, but I suspect the black hole in space absorbed them, never to be seen again. If you don't know what a MOD file is, it was some music that a PC could play. My knowledge of these files is not much, but if I remember correctly, they were kind of like MIDI files, but not quite the same. I'd like to find a good source of these files, as well as an accessible player to play them. Several questions regarding manipulating a file in mp3 Direct Cut
Hi. I have this program, and I'm not understanding how to split a file into several files. I understand you mark the beginning of the part you want to work with by pressing the B key, and marking the end with the N key, but I'm puzzled after that. I understand how to delete the part you've selected, but I have no idea how to split it from the original file to save as its own part. Speaking of marking a file, I have two other questions. First, how do you mark a file from the beginning to a certain point, or from a specific place to the end. As an example, I have a track that has about a second of the next track in it. I want to get rid of this portion of the file. What do I do in Direct Cut to accomplish this. My second question is related. How do I move the beginning and end markers to exactly mark the part of a file that I want to work with? Let's say I don't exactly have the part of a file I want to delete. How do I fix this? I just thought of a third question. How do you get mp3 Direct cut to start from the beginning of what's selected, or the beginning of a file, for that matter. Right now if I press space it starts playing at the beginning of the file. If I hit SPACE again it pauses the file, and when I hit it again the file starts playing from where it was paused. Is there either a way to play from the beginning, or better yet is there a way to enter the time where you want to start playing something? One final question. How do I get Direct Cut to play what has been selected? As an example, I have a track with extra stuff in it that I want to get rid of. How do I play just the selected part so I can adjust the beginning and end to get rid of it? I know that's a lot of questions, and I've looked at the manual, but I didn't see my answers, or I don't understand. Thanks in advance for the help. RE: re sound taxi
Hi Brian. First, sorry for not getting back to you sooner. What I did to make the program work easier is to set it up to automaticly bring up the list of files you want to select. I think it's in the options section. When you are in the file selection dialogue, just hit SHIFT+TAB twice to get to the list of files. I always have all the files in their own folder, so I just hit CTRL+A to select them all, then hit ENTER to select them. Also, I have all the files go to their own folder where I don't get confused with what's the original and what's the converted file. Oh yeah, One other setting you may want to turn on is to automaticly start converting files. This way, you just select the files you want to convert, and Sound Taxi starts to convert them right away. Hope this is useful. If you have any other questions let me know. Hi Evan. As you saw in a previous message I got the problem solved thanks to a phone call to Amazon. I'll describe what I was doing. I usually don't buy albums of music, I buy individual songs. I have an internet broadcast that I do, and I had some requests that I didn't have. One of these was When Sunny Gets Blue by Johnny Mathis. I've learned some shorthand methods to do searches, so I typed Mathis Sunny Into the search field of Amazon. It brought up a list of songs, but none of them were available. As I said, I got things solved, but I can't figure out why the Amazon site's working this way now. I did try it with a current song, Smile by Avril Levigne. I don't know how to spell her last name, so I just typed in Smile Avril, and the same thing happened. Thankfully I can still use Amazon to buy my music. ITunes is currently broken when it comes to screen readers, so I'd be up the creek without a paddle if both sites went bye bye. Thanks for your suggestion. GO REDS! RE: Regarding Sirius/xm.
Hi all. I agree that it's crummy for the site not to work for those of us who use screen readers. Trouble is XM/Sirius thinks they're improving things when they change things. I've used the app on my iPhone to access content, but I haven't done so for a couple months. One thing I wish that a manufacturer for the XM/Sirius receivers would do is to bring back the PCR. For those of you not familiar with this little gem it's a receiver that hooks up to a USB port on your PC. You'd then load software that controls the radio. The really nice thing about the PCR is you could read the station name, channel number and title and artist of songs. Sadly the ahem, wonderful RIAA complained that people would illegally get music using this unit, and it was pulled off the market. I was lucky and found one in stock about five years ago. GO REDS! RE: Laptop and sound
Hi. I'm using a laptop with Windows 7 64 bit home edition on it. I have two sound cards on it, the internal one and one by a company called Startech. I use JAWS on the internal card, and have everything else on the external card. The external card cost me around $30. It connects to the PC via USB. It has two mic inputs and at least one line in jack that is a walkman type. I've been very pleased with it. Don't work too hard. GO REDS! RE: My brother and I have a question
Hi. I've had an iPhone for just about a year. The touch screen isn't too bad to use. It takes some getting used to, but it works well. If you want to use a keyboard with the iDevice, you can buy a blue tooth keyboard and do most of the functions that you can do with a touch screen. Also, keep in mind that a device like the iPod touch or iPhone will do much more than play music or other audio content. You can download apps to do such things as listen to baseball games, play adventure games and many other things. If you're just interested in music then other players will do the job well. A suggestion for a new feature of the Hope program that works with Pandora
Hi. Last night, after hearing someone making favorable comments on the Hope program, that gives you access to Pandora via a PC, I decided to buy it. I really like it. One thing I've done is to copy and paste artist and title information from the program into Amazon, and if it's a song I'd like to get I'd buy it. Here's where my suggestion comes into play. If I remember, on the iPhone you have the option to buy the song that Pandora is playing. This would be a really nice feature for Hope. As I said, it's possible to copy and paste what's in the edit fields into either iTunes or Amazon to get what you want. I just thought I'd share this thought with others on the list. I've sent this suggestion to the author, and if others think this would be a coolerific thing to have, then let the author know. I'm not telling you all to flood the author with requests, since I'm not in the advocacy business. I'm just one voice out there with a thought, and if others think this would be handy, just drop the author a note. Have fun, and don't work too hard. Hi Ray. I can't answer your question about using this software outside the U.S., but I can answer the one about Hope being screen reader dependent. I think it will work well with any screen reader. I use JAWS 12, but I don't think the program is screen reader dependent. It has hot keys to get to different functions. It's really nice to be able to have the program running and find out the name of a rare song that you've been looking for. MLB At Bat 2010 doesn't work on 64 bit Internet Explorer, the odyssey to listen to a game.
Hi. I just got this nice new laptop that has Windows 7 64 bit home edition installed on it, and it uses the 64 bit version of Internet Explorer. I decided to listen to an archived Reds game on the PC. I did all the steps I usually do to get the audio feed started, and nothing happened. I decided to call up MLB to see what I was doing wrong. I got the level 1 tech, who transferred me to the JAWS expert. She went through the steps with me to get it to work, and to make a long story short, it turned out that Flash isn't available for 64 bit IE. She then instructed me to install Firefox, and then download the Flash player. After getting some corrupted downloads because I wasn't used to how Firefox worked, I finally got the Flash installer on the PC. Now the fun began. I started the install process of Flash, and found the, um, er, well, I won't say what I think of the program, but the buttons were weren't labeled well at all, and the program didn't indicate it got installed or not. The agent told me to try to listen to my game, and, miracle of miracles, it worked. Just giving you all a heads up, as well as relaying my saga of the day. Have a great day, and don't work too hard. Stereo mic: was RE: USB Sound Cards
Hi. I suspect the imic's mic input is mono. Most sound cards mic input is mono. I purchased a USB sound card for my new Windows 7 laptop, and it has two mic jacks on it. The tech who installed the software on it for me said one of the jacks was for a stereo mic, but I'm not sure if that's true, because while setting up my PC for internet broadcasting I plugged the mic into each jack, and it came out of a different speaker depending on which jack was used. The mic I used wasn't stereo, though. I don't know the brand name of the sound card, but it wasn't that expensive, only costing around $50. I've been able to set it up to work pretty well, but I haven't figured out how to mute the line in on it. RE: Minidisc File Formats
Hi Danny. I am a proud owner of five minidisc (MD for short) recorders, and somewhere around 400 blank MDs, as well as some albums that I bought from the store. I was curious about how these things worked, so here's what I remember. The minidisc uses what is called magneto optical writing. What happens is a laser heats up the MD, and while the spot is heated, a magnetic field is applied to it which sets the polarity of the material. When the disc is read, these fluctuations are detected by a laser, and you hear what's on the MD. When I got my first MD player in 1993, I also got some literature on how it worked. It used a form of compression called ATRAC. I don't remember what all the letters stand for, but one of the A's is for accustic. Basicly, the MD uses the same trick that .mp3 files use, that is, what the human ear can't hear is removed from the audio. An 80 minute MD is about a fifth the amount of physical storeage as a CD, and the storage is 300 kbps. Later versions of the MD recorders allowed more recording time on an MD by applying more compression to what you recorded. Now for the USB connection to your PC. When I heard about this, I was hoping you could put .mp3 files on the MD and, more interesting to me, copy the contenets of the MD to my PC for editing. When I looked at this player, there were two problems: The program for the PC wouldn't let you copy from an MD, and more important to me, the software on the PC wasn't accessible to screen readers. One thing the software would let you do, and this was something I would have used, was labeling the tracks on my music MDs. Since the software wasn't useable to me, I decided not to buy one of these. Since .mp3 came out, I haven't found much use for my MD units. Two of them are broken, and two of them are somewhere in storage. I have one working unit that I use to record music to my PC and convert it to .mp3. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, let me know. RE: Minidisc File Formats
Hi Danny. Here's how the copy protection scheme works in the MD world. If your original recording is analog, that is, you used the RCA or Walkman plug to record analog audio to the MD, you can make one level of digital copy from that MD. You won't be able to make a digital copy of these second level discs. You can, however, make as many analog copies of MDs as you like, copying from the original source in analog, copying that second copy to a third copy in analog, and so forth. As for software that will play the contents of an MD, I'm not sure of that. As I said, I hook my MD recorder to the PC using analog means, and record the result into Sound Forge. I then split the file into individual files and convert them to .mp3. It's a bit tedious, but it is doable. Hope this helps. Have a good day, and don't work too hard. GO REDS! RE: question about playing Bard books on computer
Hi Joanne. To make things where they'll positively work, you'd use a cartridge for your books, and an external drive to store them, but this isn't always the case. Some people have had success playing books from external drives. One such drive that seems to have little problems is the Kingston Data Traveler. Be warned, however. External drives don't always work with the NLS player. This is why I wrote that if you want to be positive things would work, use a blank cartridge to play books. Good luck. RE: question about playing Bard books on computer
Hi Joanne. You can't play Bard books on the PC. This is done on purpose so they can't be copied for others not registered with Bard to use. When your friend gets his player, he'll need either a flash drive or blank cartridge to put the book on in order to play it in the NLS player. If you have more questions, send 'em on. RE: bit rate and sample rate
Hi. Some out there will disagree with me, but that's all right. I think that for recording just speech, CD quality is overkill. Personally I would use 64 KBPS with 44.1 Khz sampling, in mono. I don't think you'd notice much of an improvement with higher bit rates, and in fact you might be able to go even lower, to 32 kbps, but you might notice some artifacts creep into the picture. As I said, this is for just speech recording. Music is a completely different animal. I personally use 128 kbps mp3 files at 44k sampling. I know it's not CD quality, but I personally like my files at a constant value, and this sounds good enough for me. Have a good day, and don't work too hard. RE: If it's stealing, then please explain...
Hi. First, I'll state that people are free to do what they think is best. I'm just going to illustrate the dilemma that digital forms of media have caused. First, a VCR isn't digital. When you dub a copy from either off the air, or from one tape to another, it's an analog copy. This means you lose a bit of quality from the source. A good example of this is when you dub cassette tapes. Cassette albums aren't the highest quality media, and if you listen to the copy, you'll notice the tape hiss on it. If you make a copy from that copy, it gets worse. Now let's look at digital media, and the problem it can cause. Let's say there are 10,000 computers. The first computer has a file on it. You copy that file to the second computer. You then copy the file from the second computer to the third, copy the third to the fourth, and so on, until you copy from computer 9,999 to 10,000. Now let's mix all the computers up, so you don't know which is which. How would you be able to tell the original copy from one of the others? The answer is you can't, because each file is an exact duplicate, or clone, of the original. Unlike analog copies, there is no degradation from copy to copy. In my view, there are two problems. First, as I've shown, you have an exact copy of what someone else has, whether you legitimately download it, or you get it by other means. The second problem relates directly to the first. Making one duplicate of the file may seem harmless, but if thousands of copies appear, and these aren't from the originator, a lot of potential money is lost. With ever increasing bandwidth, and inexpensive ways to send large files, this could be a real problem. I write the above as an explanation of why some out there seem to wield an iron clad fist. Don't get me wrong, I think the RIAA has done things stupidly, and don't get me started about the DMCA, which hurts people who want to have an internet broadcast for others to enjoy. I think that what publishers are learning is that if they provide a good product that doesn't cost too much, most people will do things legally. I know that I get my music from Amazon, and I'm willing to pay for it. If I can't find what I want on Amazon, I go to Itunes. So far, there's only one song that I can't find, and I may see if anyone knows where I can buy it. That's my thinking on things. Have a great day, and don't work too hard. RE: It's Still Stealing
Hi John and list. I'm going to comment on several messages that I've seen on this topic. First, John, I wonder if your direct boss is the owner of the station. If he is, the station may get into trouble if publishers find out he is allowing material sent to the station is being copied. This material is specificly for the use of the station. In fact, I'm not sure if the owner of the CD actually owns the music. With software, you are licensed to use the software. You don't own the copy you use, you just have a license for it. I'm not blaming you for copying the CD's. Just be aware that the station could be in legal trouble if investigated. As for using VCR's or tape recorders, this has been a debate that the publishers of material have had with people for years. I don't know the legal wording, but I believe that courts have ruled that so long as you use the material you obtain from over the air, you have the right to use it for your own private use. This also holds for albums you buy. If you decide to make a compilation CD for a friend, technicly you're breaking the law. I'm guilty of doing this myself. I'm not getting anything for what I do either, but that doesn't make what I do legal. As for recording material over a computer, there has been a product cease production precisely because of this, and it made many blind people mad. XM had a great device called a PCR. You'd hook the antenna to it, run a cable from it to either the line in jack of your sound card or stereo, and hook it up to your computer with a USB cable. The software that came with it displayed the channel you were on, as well as the title and artist of the song being played. Unfortunately, someone figured out how to convert the audio into labeled mp3 files. I say unfortunately, because the RIAA learned about this and threated to sue XM. The product no longer was made. I did get lucky and purchased one of these. It's not the most accessible piece of equipment with a screen reader, but you can view the title of the song that is being played, as well as easily switch channels by entering their number. Now for my comments on BARD, which I'll call NLS. First, it's not true that you have to buy a player to listen to NLS books. Your local library can provide you with a free player to play this content. It not only plays NLS content, but mp3 files, as well as some other standard audio file formats. It's true that you can't play things like books from Audible, but you can't beat the price of either the player or the books you can download. It's true that the books are in a protected form, but I personally don't have a problem with this. Finally, we could have limitless arguments on what publishers should get for their work, how they protect it, and ways to circumvent these protection schemes. In short, if someone copy protects something, someone will find a way to crack it. As for NLS, I think it's sad that it's limited to U.S. citizens, but I understand why. Have a good day, and don't work too hard. Kevin Minor kmi...@windstream.net To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
I highly recommend MLB At Bat for this year
Hi. MLB.COM has changed things, as usual for those of us who want to hear the audio feeds of our favorite teams. Before you figure that it means more trouble for those of us who use assistive technology, I have good news. The player that everybody uses is quite useable. Here's how to reach it. First, go to http://mlb.com Once the page loads, look for the word VIDEO on the page, and activate this link. You'll find a table on this page with all the video and audio feeds. Select the feed you want. A new window should open. At this point, if you haven't done it yet, log onto your account. You'll hear the audio of the game at a quite reduced volume. Now comes the fun. With JAWS 11, you'll need to turn off the virtual cursor. Do this with INSERT+Z. Then hit U to increase the volume or D to decrease it. Once you have the volume set to where you want, hit INSERT+Z to turn on the virtual cursor. I don't know how to turn off the similar feature in Window-Eyes, or what it's called. That's what I've discovered about the player so far. I noticed you can switch between the home and away feed of the game. Also, there is an FAQ specificly written for use with screen readers, and they mention JAWS. I originally wasn't going to subscribe to what was called Gameday Audio, which this year is MLB At Bat. I have XM, which broadcasts the home feeds of MLB games. I then remembered that I could hear archived games, and the white noise from the crowd is a nice thing for me to go to sleep with. I'm sure glad I subscribed. Right now I'm hearing the Reds beating the Cubs. This is quite unique. Usually, when I write notes like this, they're getting killed. RE: DIGITAL TALKING BOOK PLAYER QUESTION
Hi John. First, you can put music onto the blank cartridges. They are essentially flash drives with a fancy case around them to fit into the NLS player, so anything you can put onto a flash drive, you can put on the cartridge. APH sells the cartridges for $11.95, if I remember correctly. You can order one by going to http://www.aph.org The site says they will be selling the cable to hook to your computer, but I didn't need the cable, since I already had one for my PC. The cartridge doesn't require a special cable for it. Most extension USB cables will work with the cartridge. The cartridge has a standard USB plug on it that plugs into the NLS player, so if you have one of those handy, you can hook the cartridge to your computer and transfer files to it. If you don't have this cable, you can order it when you get your cartridge. There are other places where you can get the blank cartridges, as well as the cable for it. RE: DIGITAL TALKING BOOK PLAYER QUESTION
Hi John. Currently, 2 gig is the biggest size available. I agree that this isn't very big, but remember that the player was mainly designed to play NLS books. A 2 gig cartridge will hold something like 180 hours of content. That's not a lot of books, but it isn't terrible. I've heard that the design of things was to make it possible to put a 4 gig cartridge in the player, and people have had larger flash drives work on the player. With this in mind, maybe the cartridges will be bigger in the future. Kevin Minor kmi...@windstream.net To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
RE: DIGITAL TALKING BOOK PLAYER QUESTION
Hi John. The player will play 3gp, wav and mp3 files. I'm thinking of those three right off, I may be forgetting one, though. These files need to be in a folder called audio+podcasts which is on the root of the drive. You can put subfolders under this to organize them. The player won't announce the folders, but when you're in bookshelf mode you'll be able to navigate to them. As for playing files in stereo, this may or may not be true. I say this, because earlier firmware updates to the player didn't play files in stereo. You need to have version 2.1 or later of the firmware, and it will play files in stereo. To find out your player's version, with no media in it, press the sleep button ten times quickly until you hear the serial number being announced. Once this announcement starts, just wait, and you'll hear the version of your player's firmware announced. My player has version 2.1.3 of the firmware on it. To download NLS books for your player, you need to be signed up with the NLS site. To do this, go to https://nlsbard.loc.gov and click on the link on that page. Since you have an NLS player, you'll be able to get this service. It's nice to download books from the site, and anything you get on a cartridge from your library will be on the NLS site. By the way, you may want to call your local library and tell them you want digital books on cartridge sent to you. I had to do this for myself, and in fact I had to call them again to jolt things into action. I should be getting my first NLS book from my library any day now. There is an email list that is specificly set up for the NLS player. You can find out how to subscribe to it, as well as have some of your questions answered. RE: jaws and gold wave
Hi. I'll say right off that I'm not a Goldwave user, and you may have already tried what I'm going to suggest. If the program uses the standard menus, look under the View menu, and see if there's an option for the status bar. Hit ENTER on that, and see if what you're looking for has come back. Hi. I do a show on the internet, and I'm looking for some sound effects that I could use to liven things up a bit. I have a CD with cartoon music in it, and that has sound effects that I've added to the mix. I'd just like to get some more. Thanks in advance for the help. How to use You Tube to find and play stuff?
Hi. I've seen my brother find some real neat things on Youtube. I'm not having much luck with this. How do I get started finding stuff? I want to drive everybody crazy and learn the words to the Free Credit Report commercials. I know the one about buying a car, and I'd like to learn all the others that are out there. I know I have way too much time on my hands, but it's a lifelong dream of mine. Thanks. RE: most accessible site for sports scoreboard.
Hi Vinny. This isn't a web site, but it's a nice service. Call 800-555-8355 (800-555-TELL) You just tell it what you want, such as sports, then tell it what sport you want, then the team's score you want to hear. It's kept up to date, so you hear the current score. As for a web site, I don't know of one. RE: Searching for files by last modified
Hi Donovan. I'm using XP, so I'll tell you how to get this working in it. Go to the folder where your music is located. Select View from the menu, and select Choose Details. This will bring a list of what you can view by. Make sure the modified item is checked, then hit OK. Now, select the View menu again, and select Arrange by. This brings up a submenu. Modified should now be visible there. A neat feature in XP. If you are viewing by a specific method, such as modified, select that option again to reverse the sort order of the files. That's all there is to it. Hope this is useful. Kevin Minor kmi...@insightbb.com To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
RE: An odd behavior with stationplaylist studio
Hi Jed. This is how Jaws is supposed to work. When you change the verbosity with INSERT-V, you're changing it only as long as you have focus on it. To permanently change the setting, hit INSERT-F2 and choose configuration manager. You can then change the way Jaws acts with Studio, or you can change the setting for all programs. If you have any other questions, just ask. Kevin Minor kmi...@insightbb.com To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Does anyone have the software for the XM PCR?
Hi. I have this great device, the XM PCR, but I can't find the CD that came with it. For those who wonder what this is, XM came out with a device that hooked up to your computer's USB port, the PCR. The software that came with it wasn't the best, but it was useable. You could see the title and artist of songs being played, or in sports broadcasts you could see the score of the game. XM quit making this device when the wonderful RIAA said people could record the broadcast and convert it to mp3 files, so don't go looking for these as new products. If anyone has the software to get this to work, I'd appreciate it. Kevin Minor kmi...@insightbb.com To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Here's a work around to get to the MLB feeds
Hi. I was just on the phone with someone from MLB.com. The person was very helpful. As I write this, I'm listening to the White Sox and Royals. Here's what to do to get it to work. It is a bit twisted, and I do hope the login button is labeled on the site soon, but this method worked for me. Go to http://mlb.com Look for the word log on the page. You'll get to the login link. Enter your user name and password and hit the submit button. Now you'll be logged into the site. Get to where you enter a URL, and enter http://mlb.com/mediacenter This will bring up the table of available games. Choose the one you want, and enjoy it. I know you should be able to look for the word audio on the page and click on that link. It took me to the wrong page when I did this, so I tried the above, and it worked for me. Hope this is useful. Good news to mlb.com subscribers
Hi listers. As I write this I'm listening to the Dodgers and Phillies playoff series that happened in October of last year. I had no problem accessing the calendar on the web site, and I found the game I wanted to hear. The audio isn't the best, but it's accessible. A word of warning. I did have trouble accessing the page from the mlb home page. I called them up, and was able to get there. To make things easier for you, here's the link to use to get there. http://mlb.com/mediacenter The first table will list today's games. Above this table is the link to open the calendar, which is totally accessible with Jaws 10. That's about it from here. Hopefully mlb.com won't do what they did a couple of years ago and change things on opening day. RE: Station Playlist Studio: 2 questions
Hi Quinten. You can do what you want with Station Playlist. To move items in a playlist, select the item you want to move and hit CTRL-X to cut it. Then move the cursor to where you want to move the track and hit CTRL-V. You can also delete tracks. Select the track you want to delete and hit SHIFT-DEL. As for inserting items into a playlist, I know Station Playlist can do this, but I don't know how to do it within the program. You can copy items in Windows Explorer and add them to the playlist. Here's how to do it. Open Windows Explorer and find the item you want to add. Copy it to the clipboard with CTRL-C. Then go to Station Playlist and select where you want the track inserted. Then hit ALT-P to paste it in. Hope this is useful. Since the demo I have of it, expired, I just would like 2 small questions answered, if possible please: First, is it possible to move, or drag songs up and down in a playlist once it is loaded, (similar to how you can move songs around in a playlist while in Winamp)? And if possible, what is the key command one should use to do this? Second: While in SPL, is it possible to search and load a song into the playlist if it isn't there automatically? If so, again, what are the keyboard commands to be used? Thanks for any and all help, it is much appreciated. Hi Quinten. I use speech to access the screen, so what I say may be different if you use your eyes to look at the screen. RE: DEALNEWS ALERT: Creative Labs MuVo T100 4GB MP3 Player $35
Hi Lauren. As has been stated, it depends on the bit rate of the encoded files. If you put uncompressed WAV files on the card, sampled at 44.1 khz., you'll get 400 minutes of storage. This would translate to 100 songs, each song being 4 minutes long. Each minute of this method is 10 MB in size. If you convert the filexs to mp3 at 128 kbps, which is what is the general benchmark that manufacturers of players use, you'll get around 1,000 songs. Each gig of storeage uses 250 songs. This is what I use for my music. There are those who will say this isn't a good sampling rate, but for me it's good enough. The best thing I suggest is for you to experiment and decide on what you want. As car ads say, your mileage may vary. Hope this is useful. RE: mp3 player question
Hi Paul. If you just want an mp3 player that uses a thumb drive and nothing else, the below solution would be overkill and is expensive, over $300, but here's info on a device that will do what you want. Humanware makes a device called the Victor Reader Stream. I just got mine this past Thursday, and I don't have an SD card yet, so I'm using it with a 1 GB thumb drive. It plays music from that drive with no problem. It's designed with the blind in mind, so it gives audible feedback, usually spoken. The Stream is also designed to play NLS Talking Books, books from Audible.com, Books from RFB and D, mp3 files, and text files, to name some of what it does. It has an external speaker that's of limited use, a slot for SD cards, and a USB port on it. It has a removeable battery that lasts up to 15 hours per charge. You can learn more about the Stream at http://humanware.com I almost forgot, you can also record notes on the Stream, but this doesn't work with a thumb drive. It's designed to record lectures with either an internal or external microphone. I haven't tried this feature out yet, but once I get an SD card I will be seeing how well it works. Hope this is helpful.
