Well, I'm not sure what the content I record have to do with this, the
point is when stereo mix is active, it should record what it can here.
I am on a laptop with build in audio realtek and a USB headset. At one
point it did pick up jaws at least but now its dead silent.

get silents when recording. All the mute are uncheck and volumes up to

I think the Plantronics Audio 478 is the best headset I've ever used for
Skype and general music listening, I like the comfort, the light weight

If you travel then no problem, fold the headset up for carrying in its

I'm looking at this unit now and I'm curious, what made you decide on this
particular model? It doesn't offer anything outstanding for its price and
other products we've discussed can be purchased for muc hthe same price or
even less/

Of course, I'm looking at things from an Asutralian perspective but I'll
continue on my thread nevertheless to illustrate the point.

The SRS-X5 retails here for $299 and for that money you can easily buy
something like a Bose Soundlink Mini or certainly a Logitech UE Boombox.

Yes the Sony has a Speakerphone but many of worth bothering with, the only
one I've found which was any good was in the Yamaha MPX100 so if you're
just buying the unit for its hands free then you're most likely wasting
your time.

Okay, so you've bought the thing so you can either take it back or make
the best of things I guess, I doubt that it would be too complex to work
out, perhaps you might be able to find an accessible edition of the manual
for the machine and try and work things out from there.

All the best!

That doesn't really seem strange to me at all. You can't pair one and
the same device simultaneously with two audio output sources such as
the phone and the pc. I don't have lots of bluetooth devices, but those
I do have all act that way. They can be paired with more than one
device, but not at the same time. Only one device can be on and paired
at any given time.

Greetings,

Presumably your casssette machine has a phono output known as line out, if
it is fixed level, no problems, if it changes when you alter the volume,
set

this about halfway.

Plug the (presumably 3.5MM) stereo plug into the line in of your sound
catrcard.

Set your sound card to line in.

You now need some kind of program for receiving the audio, say,
totalRecorder or GoldWave.

Open a file of the acceptable parameters, i.e suggest .wav PCM 44,100hertz
16-bit unsigned stereo or flak, sorry don't know more about flak, because
if

you need to edit the file, not a good idea to use any form of compression
until happy with the results.

Start recording then start cassette, let it rip, turn cassette over don't
stop recording, let it rip.

At end of cassette, stop recording, save initial file, then save a copy on
which you are going to work.

Sort out file by editting joins, Etc. then save as is, or using whatever
compression suits your needs.

Job completed.

remembere delete any work files you may have created such as the original
recording.

Hope these pointers are helpful.

winamp question for a friend

2014-09-18 Thread Michael Amaro
Hello Listers,

I have a neighbor and friend who is running windows 7 64 bit jaws 13. For some
reason, when she tries to play a folder in winam, it doesn't play all the
songs. It doesn't play them in order neither. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hello Listers,
I recently installed GoldWave version 5.70 on my windows 7 64 bit laptop. When

Using jaws 13.

Thanks

It all depends Mike on how much you want to pay and what sort of quality
you're after. You can get pretty decent ear bud type phones for around
thirty quid or so, but if you are looking to pay more then there's a huge
selection.

Hi. Acoustica MP3 Converter worked nicely on my XP system with JAWS. With
focus placed on the file to be converted, you press the applications key,
arrow up to the conversion option and press enter. I now have a 64-bit
Win7 system, and Acoustica no longer works this way. They admit it on
their website. They suggest downloading and installing an application
called Wow64, which I have done. With focus placed on the track to be
converted, you arrow up through the applications menu choices to Wow64,
press enter, and then the old Acoustica options appear.

However, I could not get JAWS to stay on the conversion option I wanted,
and when I switched to the JAWS cursor, the menu disappeared. My computer
then stopped operating, and I had to shut it down.

So,

1. Does anyone have experience using Wow64 to make a 32-bit application
work on a 64-bit system? Any tips?

2. Should I give up on Acoustica? If so, what is a simple, JAWS-friendly
MP3 converter program I can use on my 64-bit Win7 system instead?

I don't know Roxio since about version 6. As I recal,
back then, when

you select the rip function, you have several controls
that you can

tab through before starting the rip.
One of those controls was for the format and quality,

i.e.

.wma at various bit rates, .wav, or .mp3 at various bit
rates.See if

you can find such a control. Also check in the menus for
option

I don't know Roxio since about version 6. As I recal,
back then, when

you select the rip function, you have several controls
that you can

tab through before starting the rip.
One of those controls was for the format and quality, i.e.
.wma at various bit rates, .wav, or .mp3 at various bit
rates.See if

you can find such a control. Also check in the menus for
option

settings and see if there is such a menu.

To check and see what bit rate the track was ripped at,
highlight the

Control tab to the Summary tab and tab or arrow down

Hi, Hank and all! At long last, I found a way to do this in Windows 7. I
tried this and it works. I'd be curious to know if this works out for you
guys:

Recording what you hear in Windows 7
At first glance, it may look like Microsoft disabled recording of
internal-or what you hear-sounds in Windows 7. Well, they didn't. It's a
little trickier, granted, but this is (often) a quick fix.

To enable it:
1. Right click on the speaker icon in the system tray (bottom right).
2. Choose Recording Devices
3. In the empty white space, right-click and choose Show Disabled Devices.
You should see Stereo Mix appear in the list.
4. Right click on Stereo Mix and choose Enable.
5. Right click on Stereo Mix again, and choose Set as Default Device.

Now you can record anything you hear through your speakers. If you don't
have a program that can record audio, you can get a nice one called
Audacity

over here. (It's free!)

The same program works for both 32 and 64 bit. The truth is Winamp runs
using the wow64 system that is implemented in 64 bit operating systems.
wow means Windows on Windows, and is a system to allow 32 bit programs to
run natively on a 64 bit operating system.

Hello Michael,

You would need stereo mix turned on or you can use a program called
Sound Tap Streaming Recorder, from NCH.

Hope I helped.

I think its slightly different, on free youtube to mp3 downloads the
video gets downloaded to your pc as a mp3, but the other 1 downloads it
as flv then you can choose to convert it.

I never tried free youtube to mp3 before but i think thats the case.

Greetings,

In the effects menu, go to time warp, be careful though, try a small
sample
of the file until you have it sounding ok, remember (or save) settings
this

will sort it.

I've opened GW mine is v5.58, I've created a file, put some recording in
it,

now do alt-c for effects and w for time warp.

Now, you will see a list of presets, I suggest go down to 200% similarity,
in my experience, this is the best of the algorythms available.

Tab now to change percent button, quite a few tabs to go.

Tab again to the edit box which will show 200.000, this would double the
speed, so you want to slow it, change the 200 to, say 95.

Tab to window size which shows 60, change this to 20.

Tab to search range which shows 10.00, change this to 5.00.

Tab either to preview or ok, see if this is ok, if so, apply to whole of
file, if not, adjust values, remembering the window size and search range
will affect how true the sound is, very much a case of trying it out.
Don't, whatever you do, apply time warp to music and expect good results;
this should be avoided until you are thoroughly familiar with settings and
how to use them.

Yes it is the 5 speaker setup, 6 with the subwoofer, sometimes known as a
5.1 speaker system... :) Sorry, I had to do it.

Hello Robert,
If you go back and read his post, it says that he's looking for a good set
of portable lab top speakers with a subwoofer for good sound.
Sorry to bust your bubble, but you aren't gonna find portable speakers
that runs on batteries with a subwoofer on them.

Those are only available in desktop mottles.
My best regards.

Hello All List Members,
If you really want to get allot of bang for your buck, go with desk top
speakers.
Unlike lab top speakers, you get a subwoofer with them so you can hear
the bass.

They will plug in to the headphone jack on your lab top and or notebook.
My best regards.

There are so many laptop speakers out now. The problem is actually
getting to hear and compare them before buying.

Some are USB powered. Others run on batteries, either replaceable or
non-replaceable lithium. Some even have their own sound card. Most
sound like small speakers. I've read reviews for some that make big
claims and have bought on recommendations to be totally disappointed.
I suggest to buy locally if possible from a store that will let you
return if not satisfied. If you go online or mail order, you could
spend a lot of money returning them if not happy.

Hello sunshine!
Well, first of all, how do you want them, do you want them powered with AC
or is it battery driven speakers you want? I have a pare of powered
speakers, which are quite small, but they have a great sound just for the
sake of MP3 listening and so on, I can look up the brand for you, but they
have power from the wall, but they're portable.
I'll let you know about the brand when I have a sighted person who can look
it up for me.
