Help Connecting an External Soundcard
Hi List. I'm connecting an external soundcard to my PC via the SPDIF input, and while I can see the device showing up in all the places you'd expect to see it, Playback and Recording devices for example, I can't get any audio through it. It shows up as being present, but not ready. I'm at a bit of a loss as for what to try next. Can anyone suggest anything obvious I may have missed while installing this thing? So the soundcard is there and being seen by Windows 7, but with the Not Ready proviso. Thanks to anyone with advice on what to try. Darran

The Pure Contour 100DI
Hi Dane. I seem to recall back in late November that you bought one of these sets, and again, from memory I think you were pretty content with its sound, build and features? Three months down the line I was wondering if you had changed your opinion, or would you still say for the money that this would be a pretty decent option for a smaller room? I ask because I myself am torn between the Contour 100DI and the Teac SR80I. Docks with DAB radio seem to be a pretty rare breed, and these two do appear to be a couple of the better offerings. So Dane, still happy to give a thumbs up to the Pure Contour? Thanks. Darran

Re: Sound on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Dean, I don't know if you got any help with this, but when I'm recording in the fashion you describe, I simply go into my volume control area and mute the line-in option. Use the Windows 7 search box and type in sndvol and hit enter on the result. This will bring you into an area were you can see all the various volume levels etc currently being used on your system. Now just tab across to the line-in option and hit the spacebar on the mute line-in checkbox. Remember of course that you'll have to reverse this to restore the ability to once more hear what's coming through line-in once finished with your current task. This should achieve what you want. Re: Big Sound From Small Footprint
Hi Dane. Could you tell me which model number this unit carries? I've been looking around and the Contour's I find seem to bee with the newer lightening connector not the older 30 pin option you mentioned below. Thanks in advance if you can help with that model number. Darran - Original Message - From: Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, November 23, 2013 2:58 AM Subject: Big Sound From Small Footprint The following will only be of interest to those living outside the U.S. where DAB and DAB+ radio services are available. Yep, another Digital Radio but this one is certainly one of the best I've heard since I started using DAB+ radio sets more than 3 years ago. Added to the great sound is the great price you should be able to find this radio for, I found it for under a hundred Australian dollars. So why is it so cheap? Because the radio sports an older style IOS dock which is no longer supported by the newer Apple IOS devices. This shouldn't present too much of a problem, if you have a device that uses the Lightning connector then you can purchase an adapter or forget about a docking an IOS device completely but whatever takes your fancy this radio still remains in the bargain basket. The Pure Contour is in the shape of a semi circle with speakers either side of a front panel. At the top of the panel is the very large display and below this appears to be a blank piece of plastic but its far from blank, if the left-hand side edge is pushed then the panel rotates 180 degrees to reveal an IOS 30 pin dock connector, press the right-and end of the dock and the Dock spins back to reveal the blank panel, this has to be one of the neatest and koolest docking arrangements I've ever seen on any device sporting an IOS dock. There are few buttons on the radio itself and all are located on the top. A remote controller unit is supplied with the radio which contains controls for all functions. Losing the remote control isn't likely given that a magnetic storage cradle is provided for the controller at the back of the radio. The Pure Contour has very nice crisp treble with good mid range and bass performs strongly thanks to the built-in sub-woffer unit. A sub-woofer in such a small unit comes as a big surprise but its certainly there and does its job quite well. Plenty of volume can be had from this radio given its 10 watts RMS per channel amplifiers so more than enough power to fill a small room. The unit supports both DAB/DAB+ and FM bands as well as the IOS Dock and an Aux-in facility for external devices. A coxial digital out and headphones socket are provided on the back of the radio next to the power input socket. I've not tried setting alarms on this radio yet - it has two of those - but I can tell you that programming presets and so forth is a breeze, just use the up/down buttons to browse to the station you want - using the select button to tune - and then hold down the Favourites button for 5 seconds. Press the Favourites button on its own, use up/down and then the select button to tuen to the selected Favourite in the list. The radio runs on AC power only thanks to a 2.5 Amp 12 Volt output power adapter supplied and will not work on batteries so its designed to be used on a desk, bedside table, kitchen and so on. Is there anything I don't like about this radio? Question about Distortion
Hi List. I must apologise first of all if I don't explain this very well, I'm not PC audio savvy and may therefore leave out vital info the more knowledgeable of you need to help me diagnose the problem. Anyway, here goes. I'm using Goldwave to record through the line-in on my PC, and this works well for the most part. The only slight problem is that loud noise, explosions etc always get distorted through my speakers, but not on the recording itself. I've played about with the line-in levels and they're set down at 12, so I don't feel this is where the problem lies. I'm using creative labs 2.1 speakers for the PC and the distortion problem doesn't exist when playing music or internet radio. Is there some kind of level or setting I'd need to look at within the windows 7 system that may be causing this sound problem? Something in my playback or recording settings perhaps that could need adjusted? Any advice gratefully received. Darran

I tried this and the volume did go up. How do I make sure the volume stays up so I don't have to do this each and every time I play something on YouTube? Thanks for any info on this. You can do it in NVDA. To turn the volume back up right click on the flash area, use the up and down arrows to go to settings. Click on settings. Then hit the up arrow and while playing a video you will hear the volume rise. I hope this helps. But now it has happened to me also! My youtube seems to have been muted. I can find an unmute button but there is no way to activate it. Neither the space bar or the enter key works. If I right click within the flash area and go to settings, I can also find this unmute button but I find no way of activating it. If I route jaws to pc to try and left click on it, the jaws cursor cannot find it! Any help? -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Dave Marthouse Sent: 04 October 2013 08:58 PM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: YouTube Problem Fixed Thanks for all the replies regarding my YouTube audio problem. Re: Goldwave/JAWS Questions
Stephen, you simply go to the visuals tab and from there you use the available combo boxes to select blank where possible. That's the Visual tab in the control properties, F11. Afterall, it **is** a sound editor isn't it or have I been under a mis-apprehension for the last seven years?
