Re: ogg to mp3 converter

2004-07-13 Thread Stephen Clower
Neither ogg or mp3 files are supported on standard stereos. You'll have to buy one
which supports this format. MP3 is very widely supported these days, but Iriver is the
only company making the attempt at supporting ogg files. Mp3 compression isn't nearly
as good as ogg which is why those files don't sound as good at the same bitrates.

Re: ogg to mp3 converter

2004-07-13 Thread Stephen Clower
To play ogg files in a standard stereo, you will have to burn normal audio CD's. Many
people like mp4, but that format has more licensing issues than did mp3. Converting a
file from one compressed format to another will *not* make it sound any better; in
fact, you're liable to make it sound much worse. If you find an audio compression
scheme you likem convert your files into that format at the outset. A 128KB mp3 file
won't sound any better if it's converted to a 128KB ogg file, but the same track
originally compressed to a 128KB ogg file will certainly sound better than its 128KB
mp3 counterpart.

CD ripper oppinions sought

2004-06-29 Thread Stephen Clower
Hi folks,
I've been using CDex for a very long time to rip my audio to mp3's. However, the
other day it took over an hour to rip a perfectly clean Eagles CD onto my laptop. I've
changed all of the read/write options in the CD-rom options tab, but it still takes
much longer than I would like. So, I'm now seeking oppinions for the best ripper;
which is the quickest? Which supports mp3 and ogg natively? What would be the
advantages of using something like Winamp Pro over EZCDDA Extractor, etc? The laptop
I'm using is a Dell Latitude C600 with a Dell 24x CDRW/DVD-ROM combo drive.
Thanks for any assistance,
Steve

Re: Nero Question

2004-06-27 Thread Stephen Clower
If you want to make mp3 CD's, just choose to burn a data disk in Nero. Copy and paste
the folders either from Nero's file browser or Windows Explorer into the Nero
compilation window with CTRL+1. When finished, just choose the CD recording option
from either the File or Recorder menu, depending on which version of Nero you are
using.

Re: Nero Express

2004-06-25 Thread Stephen Clower
Debbie,
Actually, you can download their Lame mp3 plugin and register it for free. This
allows you to rip into mp3 as well as ogg without having to buy the mp3 pro plugin. Of
course, to rip into mp3 pro you'll still have to buy that particular plugin, but
normal mp3 files can be made without having to pay anything extra. I'm not sure why
Ahead doesn't include the Lame encoder with Nero since it's free, might be a licensing
issue. Anyway, the plugin can be gotten from the Nero website under downloadable
Plug-In's

*** REPLY SEPARATOR ***

On 6/25/2004 at 12:06 PM Debbie Scales wrote:

The thing about ripping with Nero is unless you buy the MP3Pro plug in, it
won't let you save in MP3 format. The MP3Pro plug in lets you save in
either MP3Pro or MP3 format. However Nero includes it as a demo and will
let you test with it for thirty days.
With that having been said:
Go to your programs menu, Nero, nero ultra edition, and run nero burning
rom.
Hit the escape key to leave the initial dialog.
Go to the menu called extras and choice save tracks.
It will list your cd drives, make sure it has the correct drive selected,
tab and enter on okay.
It will ask if you want to use the Nero CDDB, enter on yes. It will bring
up a window while trying to retrieve the track information. if you tab
around you will find various buttons.
This process can take a minute or two. If you use your jaws cursor you
will
find a line at the bottom that tells the time remaining.
When it is done it will bring up back to the prior dialog and list your
tracks and you select what you want or use the select all button. Keep
tabbing and you make other choices here such as output file format and
where
to save the tracks. Then tab and enter on GO.
It will bring up a progress window that will tell the track it is ripping.
When it is done, on my XP machine it saved the tracks in
C:\Documents and Settings\Debbie\My Documents
That should get you started, good luck.
Debbie

I don't have that specific Plextar model, but Nero 6 does work with the external

Hi listers, I haven't posted to this list but I'm an occasional reader.
what I need is some recomendations for a cd burning program that will work

I've tried installing EZ cd Creator 6, which came bundled with it, but it
tells me that '98 FE doesn't support it.
then I went to their site, Plextor's that is, to see which software their
drives supported.
diskjuggler 4.0 was one of them and GearPro was another one.
I tried diskjuggler but that one, and the Plextools software that comes
with it are both Drag and drop software, and there are no keyboard
shortcuts even mentioned.
what I need to know is does anyone have one of these burners, and if so,
does anyone know some software that will work like EZ cd Crator but is
supported on Win '98 First Eddition?
I'd like to get Ez Cd Crator 5. something which may work with this burner.
I don't mind there being new software, but jeez, let them at least realize
that not everyone can drag and drop with a bloody flippin' mouse!
anyone tried any version of Nero software with this burner?

Anyone, help!!!

2004-06-18 Thread Stephen Clower
Hi Marty,
Whether you get Nero 5.5 or 6 won't make too much of a difference. Both versions are
very accessible.

Hi, Gary, but the question is, if I get a cd burner, can I still get
nero 5.5, because if I can't, then will the other versions of nero be
as accessible? I like to start simple, and get more complex as I go.

Hi, Curtis, are they still making accessible versions of narrow,
because I need to get a cd burner, and would like to get the narrow
that others were talking about, where you just choose audio verses
data, then copy the files with internet explorer, paste them in to the
compilation window, and burn the cd, though it might not be that
simple, but I've never used cd burning software for obvious reasons.

I use nero express with window-eyes 4.5, works quite easily, simply

Hi Scott,
Yep, the SlimX players remember exact positions for the last ten CD's.

Iriver slimx550 sounds great! Does it remember where it left off on Mp3
tracks and especially on cd's? Heard some players remember the last track
you played on the last 10 cd's you played.
Thanks for your help

Re: Nero Plugins?

Gina,
Go to the Nero web site and download their Lame plugin. You'll get regular mp3 ripping
support along with the ability for ogg files.

Louie,
In the Sound Forge File Preferences, you can specify that Sound Forge delete
temporary files when it closes. I believe this includes .sfk and .sfap0 files.

Raul,
No, I haven't been able to access the menus in the DVD Audio ripper, but most of the
options you'd want to set can already be accessed in the various combo boxes in the
main screen.

Hi. Is anyone using this program? I can use it just fine to rip audio
from dvd movies but what I'm wondering is if anyone has been able to
access the pull down menus to see/change the options of the program.

Many thanks.
