re soundforge audio studio
HI, this for joe andrea and sam. first joe, the brackets to mark blocks doesn't work in the audio studio version. i used to soundforge 7, but something went wrong with it. it would no longer load mp3 files. a number of people told me what to do about it, but none of the suggestions work. so, i am now using the studio version. i have tried i and o, and that works well. so, thanks to all of you. brian.

re audible
Hi chris, i don't mind having a big bunch of files, but does it sometimes give me the same file as one large converted files in the same folder. does it do that to you. i used to use sound taxi, but each file takes a long time, and there is sometimes a bit of the book missing at the end of the conversion. brian.
re inaudible
Hi list, is anyone out there using inaudible to convert files. i am using it, but i get some odd results. when i convert a file, sometimes i get a number of files each one representing a new chapter in the book. but, sometimes in the same folder with the bunch of files, i get another file with the name inaudible in the title, and being the complete file. i would like to adjust inaudible so that it would give me one file each time. if anyone knows how to make the change from what i am getting now, to what i would like, i would appreciate it if you could let me know. thanks, brian.

re switch
Hi, is anyone using the free version of switch to convert files from one formatt to another. if noone is using switch, i won't bother you with the details of my problem. brian.
re switch
Hi, in my free version, i have lost the ability to choose what rate i want the conversion to be. in your paid version, can you choose the rate you want. brian.
re free switch
hi tom, i have been using the free switch successfully for months. today however, when i went to encoder options, and enter it, instead of finding the usual menus including the place to choose what rate i wanted, i got an offering of five choices, and no mention of rate values. i couldn't go any further as i was informed, that my switch wasn't configured for any of the five, and was asked if i wanted to by the upgrade which i needed to go further. i don't know what has happened, as i used switch alright early this morning. i can't think what has happened. brian.
re soundforge
hi list, some time ago, i put a request on this list about soundforge, and a couple of you answered me with suggestions. i looked at soundforge 11, but when i found it was 300 pounds i went on fishing. it was my son-in-law who found me, soundforge audio studio10.0 this was only 47 pounds, and i was able to get a trial version, which i found would do all i wanted to. the only things which i don't like, is that the normalize isn't as good as previous versions of soundforge, also i think that in my version 7, i could delete parts of a recording with, left and right brackets. that doesn't work in soundforge audiostudio 10. there is some way of deleting, but i haven't found it yet. anyway, thanks to kirk and steve nutt for your attempts to help me. brian.
re soundforge
Hi curtis, you are right, the delete suggested by you, works, thanks. brian.

re mp3 merger
re mp3 merger
Hi tom, to use mp3 merger, first set up a folder in which to put the files you want to merge. then, open mp3 merger, and shift tab until you reach add files. press enter, shift tab twice, and you will be invited to browse for folder. when you have found it, press enter. use control a to select all the files, and press enter. then, shift tab once to merge. press enter. in the folder it will now have set created a file called output. this wil be your joined files. if the files have different rates, merger will query this. you only have to browse folder once. next time, it will go there. now, when you want to merge some more files. shift tab to add files, press enter, and shift tab twice and you will be in the folder of your choice. hope this wil help. mp3 merger will merge as many files as you choose to put in the folder. brian.

Hi list, is anyone using switch converter professional. i am using the free version, which is limited in the types of files it will convert. what i want to know is, will the professional version convert the audible files ending in .aa and those ending in .aax if anyone can help me, i would appreciate it. brian.

mp3 direct cut question
Hi, i have just started trying to use mp3 direct cut, to split large files. i have just one, and ended up with 85 files. i have come to the conclusion, that the length of the pausd it is using is too short. can anyone tell me how to lengthen it. brian.
re goldwave
Hi list, if anyone out there is using goldwave, can you tell me how easy it is to use for someone with no vision. also, does it having a user guide. i am not too bad with the things i know, but i am not so good with new products with a manual. at present for general audio purposes i am using soundforge 7, but although i have an honestly bought coppy, when my old computer died suddenly, and i installed soundforge on my new computer, i couldn't persuade to work with mp3 files. it is quite happy with ogg files. brian.
re splitting
Hi darran, audible uses .aa files, but they can be converted to mp3 with a programme called sound taxi. thanks for your message.
splittin long audible files
Hi, does anyone know of a reliable programme of splitting long audible files in to shorter lengths. i belong to the audible, and some of the files i download, are 11 hours long. brian.

re cdex for brian
Hello alexandra. at the moment on my two computers, i have 170 beta, 160, and 151. they are all set up for different conversions. i am surprised that you can't get the rip to wave work. you ar trying f10 i assume. it is strange that these later versions don't seem to be better than earlier versions. but i have noticed this with some other programmes. brian.
re cdex151
Hi list, i have got my cdex151 working, and it will convert ogg files in to mp3. brian.
re cdex170 beta 2
Hi alexandra, as you see from the subject line, it is 170 beta2. that is the latest version i have. what happens if i try to convert an ogg file is this. it appears to do the conversion, and if i go to where the converted file should be, it is there. it will tell me the size of the converted file in bytes. if i then open it in foobar, it will show me at the bottom of the xcreen come up one with 8, what rate the conversion was done at, whether the file is in mono or stereo, and the length of the file in hours and minutes. there is one problem, although foobar says it has it loaded, it won't play it. i then loaded the file in to soundforge7. it also acknowledged that it had it loaded, would give me the details in rate and length of the file, but wouldn't play it. my friend is still using 151, and he says it will still convert ogg to mp3. i had this programme myself, but when later versions came out, i moved to them, assuming that they would do everything that 151 would do. at present i have versions 160 and 170 beta2 on this machine. 160 behaves the same as 170 with regard to ogg files conversions. if you remember alexandra, i tried to reinstall 151 again, and you helped me with the ini file. i failed to do that, as 151 can't find the directory where i have put the files to convert. well, there it is, all of it. best wishes, brian.
re switch
Hi tom, we are getting at cross purposes, there is no problem converting to mp3, but not if the original file is an ogg. then, you only get four or five minutes, as if it is giving one an example of what the file would sound like. i think i will have to get the professional version of switch. brian.
re switch
Hi, my message was a false alarm. the free version of switch doesn't convert ogg to mp3. pitty, as i need to do that. brian.
re switch
Hi, i am using the non professional version of switch. it has stopped working, and is only producing small files of mp3, which are not complete. does anyone know if the free version has a time limit on it. i am using it to change ogg files to mp3s brian.
re switch
Hi tom, have you tried to convert an ogg file with the free version, that is what i was trying to do. it seems to give only an example of what the conversion would be like. brian.
re cdex170
Hi, is the 170 version very diffent to the beta version. and does anyone know if it will convert ogg files. 151 used to do that, but later versions didn't know. brian.
re soundforge
Hi, what is the purpose of the chainer in soundforge. brian.
stratis 12 m
Hi, is if anyone is using this particular machine i have a question. it says in the manual, that one can coppy a disc to the memory card, by pressing 3 and then confirming. i have tried this and all i get is a click. also, i tried coppy a folder from a memory stick, i found i coult do this but i had to start the file concerned, thenstop it. as anyone had any better luck than i hav had. brian.
stratis 12m
Hi aidan, it will work if the file is playing, but the manual doesn't say that you have to do it that way. brian.
for sunshine re balabolka
Hi sunshine, i don't use balabolka, because some months ago i tried to use it, but couldn't make it work. i didn't know that i needed the lame incoder, and had no friend who was using it. i am now using text to mp3. i have only converted one file. it was 525,898 bytes long. how big is the file you are trying to convert with balabolka. brian.
re text to mp3
hi, this is for anyone who is using this programme. i have installed this programme, but am having trouble in using it. it says load file., according to my sighted helper, on the screen, but using wineyes, i can't find it. so, if someone is using the programme and also using wineyes, please let me know how you are using it. brian.
re text to mp3
Hi umberto, and all who tried to help. when i tried this programme again, i got it to work, having added the lame. one question, i have coppied a file in to mp3, if i do another one, will it automatically go to the folder i used before for the input file, and will it automatically use the output folder. or, will i have to specify the input and output folders each time. brian.
ripping with cdex
Hi, i havent joined in this discussion before, because i use cdex mostly for ripping audio books which i own. that is to put whatever number of discs there is in the book, in to same number of mp3 files on one disc for convenience sake. to do this, i press f10, it then invites me to give a file name. there is two choices from that point. the first is that the disc will be ripped in to a wave file. tab once, and you get a mp3 file. if you want to rip a music disc, there is a way of doing that so you get the indvidual songs, but i have forgotten how to do it. but if anyone wants to know, i can ask a friend of mine, who rips discs of that sort. brian.

here is a question
hi list, i am putting some audio books on to a memory stick. the problem is, that other books when i add them, instead of taking their place alphabetically, tag on to the bottom of the list. that is after the last book, which starts with a w. any ideas. brian.

Hi james, i have tried your suggestions, including unloading and loading the memory stick. unfortunately, the latest books i pasted, are still ou of position. brian.

Hi james, i am still trying. this might seem a strange question, but should i be in the folder i want to put right, when i go to view and try to refresh it. i am asking this, because when i press f5, it doesn't say that the page has been refreshed. brian.

memory sticks and victor stream
Hi, as someone wrote, using the short lead, one can play files on a memory stick, or if you prefer the term on a flash drive. there is only one drawback. victor will use more battery than if the files are on a card. how much more power is used, depends on the sort of memory stick concerned. still, it is a convenient way of playing files. brian.
re soundforge
Hi list, i am a bit puzzled about soundforge. i have version seven. i am interested in having a version that has the append facility. i believe that version8 has this. what puzzles me, is the fact that the versions have reached 11. i don't expect anyone to give me a run down on all the versions, but what can there be, which has required all the upgrades. just a couple of pointers would be useful. brian.
re soundforge
Hi curtis. what do you mean about moving the cursor with speech. if one does alt p, are you saying that one can't move up and down the choices and hear what the choices are. also, has eight got the append function. so that one can open a number of audio files, adding each one to the one already loaded. brian.
re soundforge
Hi, i am back again. apart from the append function i mentioned in my message to curtis, what other obvious advantages are there in the versions after seven. brian.

re foobar for james
Hi james, as i said in one of my earlier messages, when i installed foobar on my new computer, which was about three months ago, i went to the bottom of the screen with the numpad. i then arrowed up one line. there was something there, that when i did a left click brought the left and right arrows alive. when one has clicked on this, the line changes, and it becomes the line where the information for the file is shown. i used to have a note about foobar saying what this precise thing on which to click. but, i have unfortunately lost that note. however, i recognised it when i was setting up foobar2000 again. listers, it doesn't matter how you get the hotkeys aliv, as long as you do. so, follow james's instructions is good enough if you can't follow what i have said. brian.
re foobar hotkeys
Hi, i only use two hotkeys in foobar, as i only use it as a player. to start at the beginning of a file, the hotkey is letter c. the pause is letter x. i have forgotten precisely what the position is, but when you first bring up foobar, and got to the bottome of the screen, if you come up one movement with the numbpad if you are using wineyes, you will find somewhere to do a lift click, if you do that, the hotkeys will come alive. in foobar, when you open it, it will take you back to the last file you were playing at the point at which you switched off. the same if you press on the last file you were playing. i would have to uninstall foobar, and install it again, to find what it says when you come up one movement with the numbpad. brian.
re foobar for alexandra
Hi alexandra, i don't know of any way to jump to a particular position, but if you have a file playing, the left and right arrows will move you forward and back the file. be careful, if you get to the end of the file, you can't go back with the arrow keys, but will have to start again with letter c. brian.

marking memory sticks
Hi list, this may seem a strange question, but? i am having trouble marking memory sticks. some of them have a suitable surface on which to write a braile number. unfortunately some of the ones i have, have a sort of stippled surface, on which it is impossible to write anything. have any of you had this problem, and what did you do about it, apart from using bad language. brian.
re marking memory sticks
Hi rick, is it really off topic, if you need the information. when i was six years old, my mother started to teach me braille by hand. this was in 1939, when there were braile machines, but we didn't have one. there was something called a hand frame. imagine a gide with cells in it. 26, to be precise. in each cell, there was six depressions. one used a thing called a style to press out the separate dots. the style passed through the paper, and wen in to the depression, leaving the dot behind. many years later, the rnib in britain, sold a pocket frame, which not only had rows of these cells, but also had two slots, on each side. through these slots one can pass a narrow tape. the slots puts the tape beneath one of the rows of cells. there are in fack two sets of slots, for different width of tape. it is one of the devices that i am using. i have marked some memory discs, but some of them have nowhere to write, or only a small space. i like to put a number followed by the capacity of the memory stick. i should have thought that the foundation for the blind in america would have had these pocket frames. i am only guessing what the organisation your side of the water would be called. good luck brian.
re new victor stream
Hi, thanks for your messages. i will have a go when my new sd card comes, brian.
re the new victor stream
Hi, you will have gathered that i have just received my new victor. this is about recharging the battery. in the old days, one had to let a rechargeable battery run all the way down before recharging it. otherwise, it would lose some of its charge. so, what about these modern batteries. does one hav to wait to let the battery run all the way down, or can one charge up the battery, let us say, when there is still ten per cent of the battery left. brian.

Hi antio, thanks for your interesting message. i am still playing with i have. brian.
re audible books
Hi, can anyone tell me what programmes will play audible books. brian.
re audible books for dane
Hi dane, thanks for your message. my computer crashed a few days ago, and it had to be brought back with the recovery disc. this meant that i lost several programmes. i had been using sound taxi to convert audible files in to mp3. sound taxi uses itunes. itunes was one of the programmes i had to reinstall. sound taxi can't use the itunes i now have loaded. now when i call up itunes, it says that it can't reach the itunes library, as it was created by a newer version of itunes. presumably, it means a newer version than the one i have now installed. why the library from the previous version of itunes is still hanging about, i don't know. well, there it is. i have sent a message to audible. the first message i sent they answered quickly. they asked me a number of questions, which i answered in my second message. they also suggested that we might find it quicker to gets things right, by phone. however, when i have spoken to audible in the past, i have found them difficult to understand, especially as the person at the other end is always to quiet. i don't know what to do. i wondered if there is some way of destroying the library from the previous version of itunes. perhaps then it would look for its own library. brian.
trouble with sound taxi
Hi, i am still having trouble with sound taxi. it is bringing up an error 315 message, and saying: make sure the the file has a valid playback license when i try to convert. i have put in itunes which it seems to need, and have put in the password and user name for audible. anyone got any ideas. brian.
re itunes
Hi dean, thanks for your message. i am having some trouble with the site. i went to the url you gave, and from there to the ninite.com official site. i found itunes, and it had a checkbox. i used the spacebar on that, but couldn't find how to download it. brian.

Hi list, i was using sound taxi successfully until my computer crashed, and the recovery disc had to be used. i then had to install it again. i am having trouble doing that. i have the original setup.exe file, and the licence code. the trouble is, that when i enter the licence code, the continue button, which ought to take me to the internet to get the activate, remains unabled.so, i am stuck. any ideas. brian.
