I used to use Nero as far back as Nero 7 and loved it, but versions after
that became very bloated and inaccessible. Is the latest version accessible
again?

Nero is really very good.

Re: Follow-up: Free CD Ripping Software

2014-11-08 Thread Dane Trethowan
In the beginning - a very long time ago - I too used Nero but I found that it
had problems when reading CD’S so a couple of people who are in the “Ripping
Game”, then put my on to Exact Audio Copy which was written by a computer
programmer who loves his music.

The reason he wrote Exact Audio Copy was because of the fact that most CD
Rippers don’t read the content of a CD byte for byte, they skip over errors on
the CD, they don’t try and recover from reading CD errors and so on.

Fortunately there are several utilities around that are equal or come close to
what Exact Audio Copy does, for Windows there’s Easy CD Converter and for the
Mac there’s XLD and Max, others for LYNUX of course.

I'm glad you've found what you need.

I use Easy CD Converter when I'm ripping under Windows these days but
that's not all that often at all as I''m mainly on the Mac and Easy CD

Re: Follow-up: Free CD Ripping Software

2014-11-02 Thread Dane Trethowan
Okay, I've been playing with Windows Media Player for the last half hour
or so and I'm using NVDA on the Windows Desktop computer here, I'm
running Windows media Player 12 with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Yes, the software is certainly accessible though finding your way around
Winodws Media player could be a little challenging at times I admit, the
trick is to think outside the square, in other words don't assume that
everything you want is in the menu bar because it isn't, you can make
things a little easier by changing some of the options in the view menu.

Anyway to get back to the specific topic of Ripping CD'S with WMP, this
link may be of some use.

Hi!

Someone on list asked about free CD Ripping Software a little while ago, I
answered with iTunes though of course I didn’t realise at the time that there’s
probably an even better answer built right into Windows itself which I assume
the questioner was using.

The answer of course is Windows Media Player which - when I last tried it - was
very accessible indeed.

I didn’t follow the conversation at the time so perhaps someone else on list
suggested Windows Media Player anyway.

Okay, I've just thought of another free CD Ripping solution and I'm
surprised its taken me this long to mention VLC as that's my favourite
media player.

I've not given the Ripper feature any thought up till now but - given
that VLC is fully accessible - I can't see any reason why the Ripping
function wouldn't work, follow the link below for instructions.

I did post a link to the help center which should help you with Windows
Media Player.

So you use Nero? Heaven help you smile, that is reall ythe worst
Ripper around, it used to be quite reasonable but it just doesn't read
CD's properly, nor do most of the other free CD Ripping solutions out
there to be honest, the only one which does is Exact Audio Copy still.

Interesting to hear you say that, I know others who use Windows
Media 12
— think it is now — with Windows 7 and I've not heard any noise
when it

comes to accessibility issues etc, I know people who use this
extensively and no other.

Hi!

Someone on list asked about free CD Ripping Software a little while
ago, I answered with iTunes though of course I didn't realise at
the time that there's probably an even better answer built right
into Windows itself which I assume the questioner was using.

The answer of course is Windows Media Player which — when I last
tried it — was very accessible indeed.

I didn't follow the conversation at the time so perhaps someone
else on list suggested Windows Media Player anyway.

I sggest the reason you find Exact Audio Copy that way is that you don't
bother setting it up correctly? smile.

Nero is really very good.
I found Exact Audio Copy awkward.
