[PD] doepfer pocket electronic pd

2008-05-08 Thread alexandre r. decoupigny
hey all,

has anyone ever had any experience with sending data
from the doepfer PE board to pd via midi ?
i connected a uno midinterface to the midi out via usb
and i dont know how to read the data into pd..
neither the notein or ctlin seem to receive anything..
im on mac osx 10.4.4.
on the other side of the PE there are 8 faders connected to the
board because i basically want to use it as a midi controller
for ableton live. its a very pretty thing .. you can see it here:

Re: [PD] breath synthesizer

2007-07-18 Thread alexandre r. decoupigny

thanks everybody.. this goes by far beyond my capabilities, so i decided to
turn
it around and create a sample-based patch.
the basic idea is to control a light installation through sound. 60 neon
tubes are controlled
via a custom built max patch. i want to connect the brightness of these
tubes to the sound of breathing. my first thought was that it would be
easier to deduct data from a
patch based on synthesis. after the information i gathered from the list i
realize that this
is an immense task that has its focus only next to my intention. so i
decided to create a
sample based patch. at the moment i am using [fiddle] to read the amplitude
of the recorded breath sounds.. however there are some troubles, like its
very, very jumpy..
it is also difficult to find a sonically equivalent parameter to breath
in.. breath out..
pitch doesnt work.. [env] only reads the RMS so it does not change too
much..
amplitude is close to what we hear as rising and falling, but still very far
from the natural
perception.. maybe someone has an idea ? anyways.. i will keep you updated..

Breathing could be as easy as pushing a bit of

To model the human vocal tract, mouth and lungs, and
the air pressure at all places inside is the tricky
bit to make it sound convincing. Is it for singing
or a synthesised instrument like flute?.. because for
playing an instrument there is forced breathing where
the lips are more closed and that needs a slightly
different model. Open breathing is more related to
singing synthesis, two deep sources to mine are this thesis

 http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~prc/SingingSynth.html

 and this one

 http://web.media.mit.edu/~moo/thesis/YEK_thesis.pdf

What you probably are *not* interested in are
fof, paf, vosim type methods, which are more
for voiced sounds. One that would be good
for breathing is vocoder (filter bank).
If you have a good tract model it's gonna be good for
breathing, replace the voiced oscillator with different
kinds of noise. There's a pvoc example in the Pd help files.
Take snapshots for oooh and aah formants and try those
filters with noise. To make it efficient crossfading
between a few fixed filters might be okay. I haven't researched
it much further, but you'd suppose different forces are at
work breathing in and out, so they will be different sounds
 with different noise/pressure curves.

[PD] Sending Data form Max/Msp to PD via upd

Hello List,

I am working on a sound/light installation at this point.

have no idea how to recieve control data form another machine..
i just went through the archives and did not find
an answer to my question either..
Basically I am wondering how to recieve data from another
machine, sending via udpsend in Max/Msp.. The
Lead Artist in the Project I am working on uses a Videotracking System
together with Max/Msp and i would like to stick to PD
and see/hear that it is possible.. As far as i know he sends
his Data via udp.. any idea.? im lost here, since i have no
real network experience as such but im totally sure this is
possible and probably not very hard either.. can somebody help me please ?

[PD] stereo interleaved

2007-02-09 Thread alexandre r. decoupigny

hello,

i posted before, but it did not come up the list, so sorry for
posting this three or four times in case the other posts show up..
do you guys know of any objects or abstractions that are able to play back
(in a loop)
a couple of approx. 1.5 min.. stereo interleaved files as stereo files ? i
played them
back through quicktime and the stereo image was fine..

i recorded 4 channels simultaneously with two neumann and a sennheiser
shotgun..
i made the neumann tracks hard left and right and the shotgun (middle and
side)
i used the directional track to fill the gap and the side information to
widen the stereo
image. this i did in cubase le. then i bounced the mix as stereo interleaved
and tried
playing it back with playsf~ or readsf~, but the stereo image is just
lost... even if i
use two of them on each channel and seperate them with a pan~.. im lost on
this,
please can anybody help me ?

i want to make a random player, that plays back three soundfiles randoly
and i really dont
want to lose the space on the original recording..

[PD] SONIC ART ON PMS - BBC Radio Merseyside 95.8 - Part II

2006-12-06 Thread alexandre r. decoupigny

hello everbody,

i am inviting you to share a sonic experience with me. Last sunday i
repeated succesfully
a radio experiment in collabouration with the PMS Radio Show on BBC Radio
Merseyside, one
of Radio Merseyside's most popular radio shows.
It consisted of sampling and remixing a radio program and then
broadcasting this remix
on this very radio program.. so its creating a sound piece from broadcast
pieces and make
this piece same of the source of the piece.. unique in the english broadcast
history.
you can listen to the show on
http://www.bbc.co.uk/liverpool/local_radio/index.shtml.
there you go to listen again and then chose to listen to PMS..
it might be of interest as well, that this was done mainly using Free open
source software, namely
Pure Data and Jack OSX...

enjoy and thanks for your time : )

see you, hear you, read you..
