 That's not a fault, it's an option.

Check your manual for setting up optical or digital (DOF) preview.

FS: FA 80-200 mm 2.8 and FA 24 mm 2.0

2007-09-15 Thread Carlos Royo
I still have the following lenses for sale. I have reduced 10 percent
the asking price for the FA 24 mm. 2.0:

FA 24 mm. 2.0, LN- (almost like new), boxed, with original Pentax pouch,
front and back caps and original lenshood. Only the lens hood shows
slight signs of use. Price: now 450 euros, plus shipping expenses.

FA 80-200 mm. 2.8 LN- (almost like new), boxed, with its original Pentax
pouch and pouch strap, front and back caps and original lenshood. It's
only got a small blemish: between the first and second element, it has a
very small hazy spot only visible at a certain angle, which does not
affect the quality of the pictures at all. I took it to my usual repair
shop, and they said it wasn't fungus and it wasn't worth opening the
lens to clean such a small spot. They also said that special tooling is
needed to open the lens and it should be sent to an official Pentax
service centre to clean it. Price: 1400 euros plus shipping expenses

I am the original owner of both lenses.

If you are interested in one of these items, please send a message to my
email box, not the list. Shipping expenses are not included in these prices.
Thank you for your attention.

Carlos

I think it's got more to do with the distinct lack of source photons
than what family type of sensor it uses. What I'm pretty sure of is
that it's streets ahead of the K10D (which of course doesn't even have
a ISO 3200 option), it kills the *ist D at ISO 3200 and it would
probably put to shame the best quality 645 !SO 3200 film scan.

I do not need to add that I don't wish to wait another 6 weeks for
 this miracle to happen.

My K10D was delivered into my hands today (Friday) and I consider it
now to be in worse shape than it was when I mailed it to you 6 weeks
 ago.

When I mailed it to you 6 weeks ago, the body was in perfect working
order, except for the flash which was in 100% non-working condition.

When I plugged the battery back in tonight, it was in JPG mode so I
switched back to DNG mode, turned off the beep, and exited the menu.
That's odd, I said to myself, it says RAW+ on the top display. I
turned the menu back on but it said raw dng and when I looked at the
top display it said RAW. I thought I was imagining things. I took a
few photos. I deleted the photos.

I switched off the camera. The top display showed the number of frames
left. That's weird, it's never done that before. I switched it on. The
battery display appeared and the number of frames disappeared. The
shutter release would not work. I finally pulled out the battery and
put it back in. Everything reset itself back to beeping and JPG mode.
I reset the camera to DNG and non-beeping mode. I looked at the top
display. It reported RAW+ again and a smaller number of frames
number. I shook the camera. It beeped and went back to displaying RAW
and a larger number of frames. I turned the camera off, cautiously.
The top display went blank (as it's supposed to).

Words cannot adequately express to you how I feel - suffice it to say
that I actually went and checked my receipt to make sure you had
returned the correct camera. Pentax has taken my camera which was
reliably working except for the flash which was dependably not
working, and it has turned it into a camera which might or might not
 work at any given moment.

 That's just... great.

Re: digital and optical preview modes

2007-09-15 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
It's probably a more useful mode for most people than the traditional
stop down the lens temporarily DoF preview on SLRs. I have the
digital preview set up to show highlight saturation and display a
histogram, it becomes a useful tool for both exposure and focus
evaluation this way.

I switch between digital preview and optical preview now and then.
Optical preview is quicker to use and in some situations I have the
exposure and lighting all set up, just want to quick check my focus
zone.

Re: Lightroom 1.2 and ACR 4.2 are out.

2007-09-15 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
Mark pointed this out yesterday:
Links and a list of Lightroom updates in v1.2 are available here:

   http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2007/09/

Amongst other things, support for the Pentax K100D Super is included.

Another nice goodie I found is applicable to Pentax users with recent
Pentax DA lenses. Pentax changed the lens identifier schema in the
metadata so Bridge/Camera Raw and Lightroom could not list the lens
names for the DA21, DA70, and DA10-17 lenses, amongst others. With
Lightroom 1.2, Adobe has added an Update DNG Preview Metadata
command. If I select a bunch of files and run this command, close and
reopen the library, the metadata browser now shows the lens names and
usage count for these lenses.

Re: Pentax broke my camera

2007-09-15 Thread Bob Sullivan
skye,

Sorry to hear of your problems.

I sent my K10D to Pentax to repair the SD card door and scratched rear
screen. I couldn't raise Phil Kerswill, but asked for rush service.
They took the full 8 or 10 days but returned it in good order, but it
was expensive.

I had dropped the camera with the SD card door open and broke the door
off near the hinge. I had left the camera in a rolling bag touching
an exposed screw head and rolled it thru the airport. Tape fixed the
door, but the scratching was still an issue. I opted to go for the
repair. If doing it again, I'd consider selling the back-up DS and
just getting a new K10D. (Did I menton it was an expensive repair!)

Regards, Bob S.

On 9/14/07, skye pdml [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
here you go - thought you guys would like to read an email I sent off
tonight to Phil Kerswill who's a manager in the Product Support Dept.
(BTW I've been giving Phil a hard time for hanging onto my camera for
6 weeks, so you'll have to read around the sarcasm a little bit)

 Dear Phil,

Please contact me at your earliest convenience and walk me through
what I need to do in order to get a working k10D out of Pentax. I hope

 That's just... great.

How the hell do you build buckyballs out of iridium?

It's really quite simple when you know how.

Notes while before fixing:

1. firstly pull out Fire Bat, then hold closely the Brake Bat,
there-after proceeds for processings.

2. while finding Gear sets throw out, Be care for the lossings of
those attached accessories or, other anti-thing Broken Incidents.

Fixing Manners

1. apply solid handle to turn left, while the same time those nuts and
Folded items should both tear out, and note while applying adhesive
elements, should make drier by dryer, that also makes easy to resolve
them.

2. choosing those most suitable axle screws so, that can match well
with the adapters.

3. should resolve from the top of the Body by turning left

4. insert the ear-part of the adapter in (aim on) the Body groove
(hole), until while it keeps steadly while fixing for HI, putting in
the Utmost bottom of the grooves (holes), then there-aftex setting-in
the isolating wire and while fixing for MID, just putting in the most
suitable depth of the grooves, then setting in the isolating wire,
while fixing for LOW, just even setting-in for the shallow parts of
the grooves. But not using for isolating wire, that is: Further
besides for fixing of LOW, all must (apply) set-in the isolating
wires.

The same way you get radioactive iridium, and viruses that suck all the air out
of laboratory in a couple of minutes, you make them up assuming your audience
is dumber than you are. Obviously to the author science is just a bunch of
funny words. I believe that was the whole point wasn't it?

I would say yes.

If i travel light, meaning only one camera system, i take the K10D and
16-45, 50-200 and 77Ltd.

Light compact and works well. Yes and additional battery is a must. I
now have 6 different Dslr's and all but 2 take a different battery and
charger. Real POTA.
My charge table is now huge.:-)

Stan feels its not compact, but i think its good enough, I found the
istD a tad to small and my D1 D2H etc are much larger than both
Pentaxes. I think it fits my hand very well, and fell no need for a
grip.

Epson 2100/2200 problem

2007-09-15 Thread David Mann
Hi guys,

A friend of mine is having a problem with his Epson 2100 (which is
the non-US 2200 - same printer but comes with different
accessories). Has anyone seen the symptoms described below? My
first thought is that it needs to be run through its calibration
cycle but this sounds a bit worse than that. We'd appreciate any
suggestions...

My printer is making thin vertical lines full length of the print.
The lines are lighter regions of the image, about 0.5mm wide and
1.0mm apart using 1440dpi and about half these sizes using 2880dpi.
The lines appear over the whole print.

Cheers,

- Dave

My printer is making thin vertical lines full length of the print.
The lines are lighter regions of the image, about 0.5mm wide and
1.0mm apart using 1440dpi and about half these sizes using 2880dpi.
The lines appear over the whole print.

 Cheers,

 - Dave
