Re: How to deodorize old Pentax?
Put it in a box with activated charcoal (maybe the inserts for shoes could work, some have activated charcoal inside). Oxygen from hydrogenperoxide should also work but it would also generate a fine mist of hydrogen peroxide which get's inside the camera. Or simply heat (100W lightbulb in a box), UV light maybe? On Dec 14, 2007 12:38 AM, Peter [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi there! I have a Pentax S1A that I want to get overhauled and working again. Here's the thing though, I am trying to deodorize it first. The camera has spent the last 30+ years inside it's case and the back of the camera (curiously not the front) seems to have this strong sweetish aroma coming from the black textured area that makes me dizzy. I have let it sit in the open air for the last 2 months and nothing changed. I have tried dish soap, potassium hand soap, castile hand soap. No luck. I've tried leaving it in a casserole container with baking soda for several days, no luck either. I still have on my list to try: vinegar in a bowl in the container overnight, paste of hydrogen perioxide mixed w/ sodium bicarbonate in order to generate massive oxygen and scrub at it, zeolite overnight, newspapers overnight, charcoal overnight, spray it with febreze (cyclodextrins). I suppose a last resort would be to strip the grip material off and replace it, but I'd like to avoid doing that because it's in perfect condition. Advice appreciated. It looks to me that it's always been so. When I subscribed to Oentax Gallery (before I had any picture accepted), I already noticed that 90% of already published pictures were scenics and wildlife, hence I was a bit discouraged (not shooting such genre). Re: Reposting a question re PS and browser image differences
I agree with Paul here. I use to just use the Adobe Gamma settings and my prints we're only about 90% of what they looked like on the monitor. After buying Marks old Spyder unit and disk's and turning off AG my prints are 98-99% of the monitor. Even when using the Proof set to Working CMYK, i was getting matching outputs, however, i was frustrated at why my equine photos using the D1h and sometimes the D2H, looked fine in the preview browsers, but dark and muddy in PSCS2, using a PC and XP Home. I can see a difference now, moving from CMYK working to the Monitor RGB, and comparing after conversions, to the MS browser window, they now look the same. I just need to find a store with some paper in stock, so i can do some test prints. The Staples near by is out. I'll try again Monday. Oh crap. I just noticed i still have some Epson 4x6 paper, i can play on those. Phe.:-) Thanks for all the tips here. Even after being in to digital for close to seven years now, its still abit confusing at times. I agree. No matter the subject, there is no question that it's much more difficult to get an image accepted now than was the case in the beginning. Boris, I really think some reviews (rare ones) are truely useful, complete and objective as one can be. However DpReview (notthe onl site of course but it is very good example) typically proves the guys running it are either incompetent (which I beleive) are a lot more interested in the revenues the site generates (also the case for DpR). As for DpR, the only real value is the detailed controls and detailed pictures of (not from) the camera. Dramatic landscapes or major wildlife (600/4 territory) seem to dominate these days. Last time I looked there were around 20 images posted taken with a 600. I had a majority of them. It's certainly an unconventional bird photo and I couldn't quite decide whether I liked it or not. On balance, I do. Re: Old Honeywell Pentax Gear
That's not exactly true, when the bottom fell out of the film camera market I picked up most of the screw mount gear I wanted. I have a classic 35mm kit in screw mount, an SMCT 35mm f3.5, an SMCT 50 f1.4, and a SMCT 135 f2.5 with a Komura Telemor II 2x converter for extra reach.with two primary bodies a Spot F and a ESII (and a H1 as a meterless body just because). I don't have enough time to shoot my K mount equipment, let alone my m42 stuff. I feel guilty about that sometimes. So far I think Chuck has gotten some pretty good advice. Unless he has something really special,. he's better off selling the stuff on e-bay. graywolf wrote: I can understand your feelings, you come top what claims to be a Pentax camera list and find no one interested in Pentax cameras.
