IMO: 1. The crop is to close or too loose. I want to see more, or see less. If more, much more. At least the entire fiddle (I play bluegrass so that's not a violin ;-) I know she's holding the bow - I can *just* catch sight of it. 2. I do like the lighting but the overall effect is slightly too low key. The fiddle is all mixed up in the hair. 3. That background is atrocious and highly distracting. A wider crop may help, or a tighter shot wide open would soften it. 4. So, aside from all that, what have the bloody Romans ever done for us?! Re: Question for automobile enthusiasts on the list
I wonder if you bought that Mustang new? I had a 80 Pinto that was made in Michigan, my girlfriend at the time had one that was made in Canada, and a friend had one that was made in Mexico. None of them had any problems while we owned them. Mine had 119K miles on it when I sold it. You can always get a lemon, hopefully when you do you live in a state with anti-lemon laws. I have had problems with almost all the cars I bought used. Most owners do not seem to get the idea of maintenance. They are like Paul and his lease cars. The only car I bought new that I had problems with was the Escort, it ate tie rods and rear axle bearings; but the diesel drive train was sweet, if only I could have had that in a diver car... As to the keep Americans working thing, I think that is what we working class people mean, but the stockholders and management mean, keep my stock value up. That is the problem with trickle down economics, those people have money because they do not let it tickle out of their hands. Re: Tripod Head for Bigma - Suggestions/Reccomendations ?
To everyone who responded to this thread. Thank you all for your input.. I think I will go for the Manfrotto 393 .. A wimberly is simply outside my budged plus my existing ball head serves me just fine except for the bigma. I guess getting a dedicated head for a long lens is the better option from a quality POV. People seem to be able to use the 393 for monsters like the sigma 300-800 with good results so i guess the bigma should be a walk in the park for it. Re: Samsung GX-20 first glimpse.. Is this the new K20D ?
Hmm, if that's the same 2.7 LCD as the Sony A200, I'm disappointed. The A200's 2.7 LCD is only 230k pixels and those low-res displays make live view far less useful than the high-res displays on the D3 or D300 (Which are sharp enough to determine critical focus on image review or live view, the difference between the 922k pixel and 230k pixel LCD's is VERY noticable). Nice to see the return of ISO3200, although I suspect we're still going to be a stop under what the competition is delivering (other than Canon). The D300 and A700 offer ISO 6400, and I suspect the rumoured A500 and D90 will as well. Unless there's more to it than this I'm seeing a competent but underwhelming update to the K10D. Not really interesting to me as an upgrade to the K10D. -Adam On 1/9/08, Tim Øsleby [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: - 14,6 Megapiksler (CMOS sensor) - Optisk billedstabilisering (Image sensor shift mechanism) - Huset er motstandsdyktig mot regn, sand og støv - Dobbel støvfjerning på billedbrikken - Stor 2,7 LCD skjerm - Søkerbilde på LCD (Live View) - Ett- trykks RAW opptak - Følsomhet inntil 3200 ISO Veil pris ca. kr 9.995,- Translated - 14,6 Mp (CMOS sensor) - IS (Image sensor shift mechanism) - Resistant against rain, sand and dust - doble dust removment on sensor - Large 2,7 LCD skjerm - Live View - One- push RAW button - 3200 ISO USD 999 (My rough calculation) -- No ap stimulator ;-) Nothing about AF, fps, image processor etc. Tim Typo - Original Message - From: Patrick Genovese [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List pdml@pdml.net Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2008 7:33 PM Subject: Samsung GX-20 first glimpse.. Re: PESO: Old Four Eyes
I like this very nice shot, Alastair! I have a question (for you and whoever else would want to comment on it). I understand that -1.5EV flash compensation is for a soft fill-in flash. But what was the reason for +2EV ? Recently there was a brief discussion here (I remember Godfrey participating in it) that some cameras tend to underexpose. Is that +2EV to compensate for the inherent underexposure? Igor On 09/01/08, Alastair Robertson, wrote: http://www.pbase.com/image/91434888. Well 8 actually but 4 big ones - nice eyelashes too. Re: new regulations on lithium batteries on aircrafts
There is no limit on batteries below the 100 watt-hour limit in carry-on luggage. I wanted to figure out the watt-hour rating of a Pentax K10D's battery. The BH site (fastest place to look) lists it as a 1620 milliAmp-hour battery, that's 1.62 Amp-hour, with a nominal voltage of 7.4v. W=V*A, making it about a 12 watt-hour battery if I read the definition of amp-hour and watt-hour correctly. Did I get that right? Re: PESO: Old Four Eyes
Nice shot. I'm not a particular enthusiast of wildlife photos, although I like to see them and do some occasionally ... more often birds and water life, rarely insects. -- Responding to Igor: With my DS, I found the meter calibration generally required +0.5-0.7 EV compensation when capturing RAW format for accurate density with an 18% grayscale reference card. I find my K10D to be more accurately calibrated, requiring at most +0.3 EV but within range to use 0.0EV and get the appropriate number. Looking at this scene, I would have wanted to add an additional +0.7-1.0 EV for ambient exposure as the scene's average reflectivity is significantly higher than an 18% gray. +2 EV ambient exposure comp seems a little high, especially when coupled with the -1.5 EV flash fill. But the photo looks fine, without highlight saturation and includes a full tonal scale. I'd chalk the settings values up to individual camera body and flash unit variations in calibration. I've not used the AF540FGZ flash unit so I don't know much first-hand about how the ambient metering system and it work together. Unless there's more to it than this I'm seeing a competent but underwhelming update to the K10D. well, there is one thing to be aware of - if the dials are in between click detents, then the main dials can have problems.
Socialism has nothing to do with it. Capitalism in it's purest form has the belief that each party should benefit from a transaction. Question about canvas (reposted)
Hi all, I asked this some time ago, but have not received any responses. so, I apologize for reposting this - I'd give it one more try. 1. For all printer users: what canvas/canvas paper do you use (roll or sheet)? 2. What parameters do they differ by (except for the size)? I.e. what should I look for when comparing different brand products, and what is the [practical] difference between canvas and canvas paper? 3. for Epson R2400 printer users: a) Is it capable of printing well on canvas? b) Same question about metallic paper (such as Kodak Endura Metallic)? Thank you, Igor -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Sorry Igor, I have the R2400 but I've never considered using it to print on Canvas. You might go to the Printers Printing forum on DPReview http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1003 or Digital Darkroom forum on Photo.net http://photo.net/bboard/forum?topic_id=1701 and ask there. Re: Samsung GX-20 first glimpse.. Is this the new K20D ?
Yes, but the others aren't really 230k pixels, but rather 1/3 of that. All LCD displays on cameras are specified by points or sub-pixels. The 922k display on the D3/D300/A700 has its pixels counted the same way as the 230k displays on other bodies. The 922x displays are 640x480, the 230k displays are 320x240. twice the pixels in each direction. -Adam On 1/9/08, Tim Øsleby [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The Nikon LCD is not really 922k.
