Love light - Jordan Cronenweth
I've always had this thought in my mind. No matter how good or bad a film is, in a professional film at least, the consistent factor is the editing and the DOP. It can be a really crappily acted, directed, costumed, recorded, written film. But the editing and the cinematography is at least interesting to watch. And then, when everything else comes together, the editing and the cinematography is glorious. If you have a chance to watch the the Ultimate Collector's 5-disc edition of Blade Runner, there is a little short on Jordan Cronenweth, the DoP, in the Enhancement Archive disc. Normally I fast forward through these self-congratulatory features, but his work on this film still amazes me. I recommend, if you love still or moving phototography, to get this set, watch all 5 versions of the film, and then be moved by the Jordan feature. Photo.net talks back
David Savage and Carl G sent me screen shots of my photo.net page and alerted me to the fact that non-subscribers don't see the same nice, clean page that subscribers see. I wrote to Josh, the photo.net site director, and told him I wasn't pleased. I included the URLs and screen shots. Here is Josh's reply. Rick and Paul, I'm replying to the two of you together because you wrote me at virtually the same time regarding the same issue. You can pass this along to the pentax mailing list if you like. [EMAIL PROTECTED] is the address that any replies should be directed to. A few things to know: 1. Yes, non-subscribers see more ads on the site than subscribers. 2. International viewers see different ads than N. American viewers, this has to do with the different ad providers we use. A N. American company doesn't want to advertise in Germany and vice versa. 3. From the screenshots that were included with Paul's email, someone is seeing ads that they shouldn't be seeing. Flashing/jumping you are a winner ads should not be on photo.net. Now, there are a couple reasons that could be the cause of #3: A. If only one or two people are actually seeing flashing/jumping ads, then their computers may be infected with spyware. B. There may have been a bait and switch pulled on the site. Sometimes an advertiser will present one ad for approval that will get through our filters, then switch it with another ad when they think we aren't paying attention. This is a particular problem with international ads. Probably because the crap companies know we are based in the USA and won't catch on as quickly. C. Full screenshots (including the URL bar of your browser) are needed to get rid of these ads. We need to know where on the site they are showing up. Copying the link that they are trying to send you to is also useful (if you know how to do that without actually visiting their site). Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. It's still speculation that the K20D will actually officially replace and not supplement the K10D in the Pentax Line. Pentax was aiming at having three DSLRs in their line at the same time. Right now Pentaximaging.com, (Pentax USA), has only two. Heck I never did see a K110d in the actual plastic during it's entire existence, and it hasn't been on the Pentaximaging web site for at least 6 months, maybe longer. I suspect either the K10D or the K100D super will remain as part of the official product line for some time to come. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: That's not necessarily bad marketing. RE: Love light - Jordan Cronenweth
on the subject of beautiful cinematography, and Ridley Scott, be sure to watch The Duellists (again, if necessary). It was Scott's first feature, made on a miniscule budget mostly in natural light, and heavily influenced cinematographically by Kubrick's Barry Lyndon. It's probably one of my top 5 all-time favourites. Another great cinematographer is Vittorio Storaro, responsible for (among other things) The Sheltering Sky, The Last Emperor, Last Tango in Paris, Apocalypse Now!, 1900, etc... -- Bob -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Derby Chang Sent: 14 January 2008 09:22 To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List Subject: Love light - Jordan Cronenweth I've always had this thought in my mind. Re: Peso Tree and Stones
The headstones look pretty cool lined up like that. I think you could crop out about half the frame as the sky and most of the tree don't really do anything for the subject. I'd crop just above the tree line myself. -- Bruce Monday, January 14, 2008, 11:01:33 AM, you wrote: DJB Had to pick up a letter from my Cardiologist in Markham this morning , DJB and threw some cameras in the truck. At least the photo I posted a link to earlier was an *intentional* joke! - Ah, but the images were posted by a fellow from Slovenia. As I recall, that is where the MZ-S was first shown. I'd like your feedback on which version of this you like better. First one has a very minor crop and the second was me taking a fresh look at the scene later and make a fairly large crop.
