http://photos.stanhalpin.com/p155717848/e36377212 You may also view this image in my blog which I am slowly beginning to populate. As an added bonus, on the blog site you get to read my wine soaked ruminations. (But aren't all ruminations soaked in rum, by definition? Oh well.) http://smhalpin.posterous.com/ I hope you can use the time to travel more. I have a few years to go, but I'm looking forward to it as an opportunity. My brother-in-law retired earlier this year after a very successful career and he and my sister immediately embarked on a long holiday in the Far East followed by a long, slow boat home calling at all sorts of exotic places. They're now planning their next tour. I know you've already seen much of the world in your capacity as Felix Leiter, but I've always felt rather sorry that young Americans ( Canadians) don't get to travel the world in the same way as the Aussies, Nzers, Safricans and to a lesser extent British. One sees and meets quite a few retired Americans who are at last seeing the world and when I've asked them about this phenomenon they explain that the young feel under too much pressure to get their careers started and once started they have such short holidays that it's impossible. Even the people on military bases don't seem to be able to get out of the base very much. Nice atmospheric picture, by the way. It reminds me of a comment between a couple of young Aussie travellers I heard in Greenwich once: Jeez,I can't wait to get back home. If I have to look at another old building I think I'll spew. The K20 is better at low ISO the K-x is much better at high iso. The K-x is better at metering and autofocus. The K20 is a bit more comfortable in my hand, the K-x is smaller, lighter and easier to carry. I read a lot of discussion about a new, high end Pentax SLR being announced in September. What is the likelihood of that happening? Probably pretty good. A recent experience at the wedding of my niece was so frustrating as to make me contemplate the complete sale of all my Pentax gear and moving to another maker. I think I'll borrow a K-7 and do some playing around first though, as I've been with Pentax since 1980 or so, accumulating so many fine lenses. What to charge to photograph a party?
Some friends stopped by when driving through town last night and we grabbed a bite at the local taqueria. I was showing them my 'best of' folder of prints and someone else there asked if I'd be interested in a job shooting an event, I think it was his parents 50th anniversary. Assuming that the scheduling worked, I don't even know what order of magnitude to charge. RE: Pentax 110 SLR
As an alternative to FT and Olympus Pen, Pentax can refurbish their 110 SLR system. Just my 2¢... As awesome as that would be, it'll never happen. There are too many technical and cost issues in the way. Plus, the system wasn't as widely-used as K mount cameras/lenses, and the 110 lenses really weren't that great. There is the option of buying a Micro 4/3rds camera and the Pentax 110 mount adaptor, but there's no aperture control since the aperture was in the body of the 110 camera. I'd say forget about it, unfortunately. Re: Scharpenberg Gallery our reception Video for YouTube (now with deadline)
I just talked to Sue. Try to send jpegs (smallish size) of your choice by Monday, May 31st. But if you know that you can send them by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week, just give Sue a heads up. (don't email me; email her :-) bartongall...@sbcglobal.net ) She probably won't start working on the video until next week sometime. Here's one she's done; I did the photography, nothing special, just some quick shots. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmGv_gBoT70 She'd like to do one for our opening reception, and she has asked me to put a call out for photos. Anyone interested in letting Sue use a few of their opening reception shots, please send them to Sue directly at bartongall...@sbcglobal.net . You, of course, retain copyright, and Sue said it's no problem to put your copyright data on the photo as we often do. I'll be sending a few--course, a few is all I have. I shot so little. I thought I'd send along our group shot too. RE: Lightroom interruptus
directly from NAS to PC. Crossover cable? Sounds like it's back to rs232... I'll just leave it to run over the wifi thing now - I can't be bothered trying to find a one-off proper solution. Bob Did you make the ethernet connection directly from NAS to PC, or via a hub/switch? And if directly did you remember to use a crossover cable? If you have an ethernet hub/switch, just plugging both the computer and the NAS into the hub/switch should take care of any crossover cable type problems, if it's reasonably modern (less than 3-5 years old). It'll also let you run at wired speed, which is often faster than wireless, even at the same nominal bit rate. -- Thanks, DougF (KG4LMZ) -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
You are the best, folks :-)
Really!!! I just had a look in my snail mailbox. There I found a signed copy of the Book (you know, The Annual) for my birthday. I can decipher most of the autographs, but some are a mystery to me. Thank you very much guys 'n gals :-D Dough, Miserere, other Tim, Jostein, Paul, Mark (I presume), Jay, Chris, Christine, Stan, Ted, Bob, and to those who can't write your own name :-p I can hardly express my surprise and gratitude. Re: Lightroom interruptus
That may well be the problem, did you get a link light at either end? 10 100 Mbit twisted pair is rather like RS232 in that for direct device-device (e.g. PC, NAS) connections you need a crossover cable (likewise for direct hub-hub or switch-switch connections) and for device-hub or device-switch connections you use a normal cable. Later ((last 5 years maybe?) 10/100 switches often had one or more auto-sensing ports so you can get away with normal cables. I believe gigabit ethernet has auto-sensing built-in to the spec. It occurs to me that there's another possible problem with you trying a direct connection like that. Even if you had a crossover cable or auto-sensing ports such that you had a link light, if either your PC or NAS gets its IP address dynamically from a DHCP server elsewhere on your network with the direct connection that server is cut-out of the circuit, so no IP address and the two devices won't see each other. No matter, as long as you have a solution that works though! On 24 May 2010 21:10, Bob W p...@web-options.com wrote: directly from NAS to PC. Crossover cable? Sounds like it's back to rs232... Tim, One of those you cant read must be mine... I definitely can't read my own writing :) although I signed a couple of books on the tab by one of my photos... not on the inside cover.. that would help as a clue anyway - Happy birthday! ann Tim Øsleby wrote: Really!!!
