In this day and age it seems teenagers grow up almost too quickly what with the internet... About the same as an average, with one or two older ones. It was 16-20 years ago, so maybe there is something in the idea that youngsters today are inured. I sincerely hope not. I think you have to bear in mind that the camps were liberated 65 years ago. Putting that in relation to when I was 14-16 years old that would be events which took place in about 1905. Although people do have natural human sympathy with other people from that long ago, I would have found it difficult to relate to being flown overseas for a day and dragged around an exhibition about the 1915+ genocide of the Armenians, while events such as the Vietnam War, the Cambodian genocide, the war in Pakistan were immediate, happening there and then, and all over the papers TV every day. I don't think people become inured but it's hard to see the value of this when so many things are happening right now which we're not doing much about and which seem to show that we have learned nothing from the genocides of the 20th century. As I and Steve said, there aren't many answers there. But the reality of being in the place where it happened, plus seeing the stuff that belonged to the people (even though I knew it was coming) really hit me. I imagine that one would get the same effect from a Cambodian ossuary or many other types of memorial. Maybe I'm just hyper-emotional (or maybe it's because there is at least a distant possibilty that relatives of mine went through the process) but I found that being present removed the event from the mental storage box and dragged the reality of it into the daylight. I found it one of the most unpleasant experiences of my life, as did most of the people I was with. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: [Developing films] Traces on the dry negs
Yes, final wash was in demineralized water. So logically, traces should be coming from the soap/wetting agent and the film may be drying to fast indeed. I'll try more when I have time and post results again. I will look into Photoflow as well. Thank to you all. 2010/12/14 Gasha cir...@konts.lv: Make sure to wash film for 15 mins in running water. And use distilled water, as last wash. Some traces still are possible, but then you can use distilled water again, even after drying. Gasha Thibouille wrote: I didn't get this with my first film but second and third films have traces on them after drying. Seems like limestone (got the word translated from French so it maybe wrong) and/or wetting agent. Now, I use simple dishwashing product as wetting agent. Maybe this is the culprit? Or maybe not enough wetting agent? Any suggestions welcome. FS: LX body (BGN), AF Sigma DC 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 (EX+)
LX body: BGN or user condition, definitely, with wear and some marks, but really quite nice for a user LX. No sticky mirror syndrome; see pics at link below and/or e-mail for more details. I do have the standard screen installed and the SA-23 screen for more precise focusing with large-aperture lenses. Lenses available too if you're interested. Body, strap, caps, and extra focusing screen, $200. Sigma DC 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5: This is the older version of this lens, the one without image stabilization (though on the Pentax bodies, you don't need it)! EX+ condition, includes original caps and hood. $250, includes shipping insurance in the continental U.S. Outside the U.S. will be slightly more with shipping. help needed: Pentax stores in Portugal or Andorra
Thanks Jaume - sorry about the delay, been down with virus. I'll check it out ASAP. Andorra would be nice since my group can't possibly get lost there in my free day... Our Barcelona stay should be frantic - too much to see - and I'd be at their service all the time. But I'll be there for a while :-)) Luiz Felipe luiz.felipe at techmit.com.br http://www.techmit.com.br/luizfelipe original message follows: Luiz, I bough my Mz-5n in Andorra around 8-9 years ago and the prices were quite interesting at that time. However, I have the understanding that it is not that interesting after the Euro, although there are still some deals. An example (I guess you'll be able to read Spanish) from the main Spanish Pentax forum: http://www.pentaxeros.com/forum/index.php?topic=35370.0 They even have a shop that is a good representation of the best prices that you can find in Spain for new Pentax equipment: http://www.tiendapentaxeros.com/ From what I see online and in magazines, the prices in France are higher than in Spain (and Andorra, of course). I don't know about Portugal though (I live in the opposite side of the peninsula), but I don't think that is is specially cheap (the importer is the Spanish one, Reflecta). I'll ask some colleagues for shops in Andorra and let you know off-list. If you are going to visit Barcelona, let me know and I'll be happy to inform you about the best shops for Pentax Regards, Jaume -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Maybe selling both K-x and K20
There are times when it is really handy to have two camera bodies. On the other hand there are more times that it would be even handier to only need to have one in my camera bag. This time of year, I often need the wether sealing of the K20, but more often need the high ISO of the K-x. So rather than every time that I leave the house deciding which to bring, they both pretty much live in my camera bag. It dawned on me that there is nothing that either of those cameras will do, that the K-5 won't. And if I sold both of them I might be able to pretend that I can afford a K-5 that much sooner. What I don't know, however, is what they're worth on the used market, and how much having a katzeye screen adds to the value. One silly thing I realized was that as much as I like to use the K20, and prefer its ergonomics, it has never engendered the affection that I have for my K100 and my K-x. Larry, You could search for something like pentax K20 camera on ebay, and then checkmark Completed listings under Show Only. The bright sections look as if they could use bringing up the blacks, but that would plunge the shadows into utter darkness. However, I realize that you are not at liberty to wait until the perfect light for each of those shots, and I've got no idea how to do a conventional photo to handle those conditions, though I wonder if a polarizer would knock down a touch of the reflected glare, and have less effect on the landscape that's in the shade. At the risk of being hounded from the list as a blasphemer, it seems that that landscape would be great material for HDR techniques. I'm not normally a fan of HDR and tone mapping, and it is often inappropriately used, but those views could be great raw material for the technique. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com sent from i4est -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

So, 60-250 F4 or a 3rd party 70-200 2.8?
Thinking about surprising Santa this year and stuffing my own stocking. I'd likely use the lens for youth soccer (futball), nature, and auto racing shots. I know the 2.8 would be nice (faster is ALWAYS better, right?) The Pentax lens has a bit more reach in either direction. My current lens for shooting these soccer games is the DA 50-200. I get decent shots but but they mostly need cropping. The extra 50mm would be nice and I'd be moving from 5.6 to F4 so that's better. The Pentax would have better integration with my K10 and future bodies. Do any of the 3rd party lenses work with the supersonic focus motor? The Pentax lens is more than a little bit more money though... What to do? Re: So, 60-250 F4 or a 3rd party 70-200 2.8?
I faced the same question and went for the Pentax 60-250. I haven't had any regrets. It's weather sealed, well built, and its optimum stop is wide open up to about 180 mm and f5.6 at longer focal lengths. That makes it superb at doing the job it was built for. An f2.8 lens that isn't sharp until f5.6 offers no real advantage. Paul On Dec 17, 2010, at 6:39 PM, Cory Waters wrote: Thinking about surprising Santa this year and stuffing my own stocking. What to do?
