LR question: selecting and deleting virtual copies

2011-01-07 Thread Larry Colen
I just went through a bunch of catalog housekeeping, and I've found that I've
got a bunch of virtual copies that were automatically created. Is there a way
to take a bunch of photos and select (and then delete) the virtual copies,
leaving the files alone?

Under attributes, there's a picture in the upper right that looks like a

copies.I was able to use that to select them all and delete them

OK, time to start off the New Year by coming out from the shadows of
PDML. I've been a member on and off since I picked up my first Pentax
(a ME Super) in 2000, but I've generally just lurked and posted on
very rare occasions. But I've been hanging around since Frank had
bunny ears and everyone was waiting with bated breath for the first
DSLR from Pentax. Learned a lot over the years from you folks.
Sometimes a little too much, in a wired, dysfunctional family sort of
way. But I keep coming back; I guess that says something about me too.

I shot with a string of  Pentax film camera up until a few years ago
when I picked up a K10D. It's getting a bit long in the tooth now, but
I'm trying to resist the siren call of the K-5 so I don't dip into the
kids college fund to pay for it.

For what it's worth, I'm another Canuck. From Newfoundland originally,
lived in Alberta for a few years, and now settled down in Nova Scotia.

And I do have the requisite cormorant shot, just to prove I fully
 qualify for membership:

Belated Happy New Year to everyone.

Re: Any new info on K-5 sensor stains?

2011-01-07 Thread paul stenquist
Haven't heard any more. I suspect a few cameras actually had sensor spots,
which led to numerous chicken littles seeing spots where there were none. A lot
of the cluckers on Pentax forum were testing by shooting a piece of paper with
a somewhat wide lens at f22. If one does that, a speck on the paper can show up
as a blob.

If there were a substantial number of cameras with spotted sensors, i would
guess they're now out of the pipeline at stores that move a lot of merchandise.

Are you sure? Could it not be that Conjecture and Hearsay are

G'day all - and welcome to 2011!

Well, you certainly made me work for my first PUG - 31 submissions make
this the biggest gallery for some time. Well done to all! It was
really interesting to see the various ways in which the theme has been
interpreted.

You'll find the gallery here - I've made a few subtle changes but it
still has the 'JAlbum look'.

There were a couple of minor hiccups in getting the gallery on line - it
all seems to be working but, if you find any problems or dead links,
please let me know ASAP.

I always liked waist level finders. You could do that so easily with
digital and the best you can get is an adjustable LCD. I always found
you could hold a camera really steady in that position. As for 3D, MF
can produce some amazing stuff.

And I do have the requisite cormorant shot, just to prove I fully
 qualify for membership:

LOL. Not a bad analogy, however. I'll never be able to justify
buying a new one. I have eventual hopes for the used market. If you

Thank you all for your feedback.

True, DOF is smaller but lenses are slower:
My 80/2.8 on 6x6 focussed at 5meters has a DOF of 1.1 meters.
My FA50/1.4 on APS-C focussed at 5 meters has a DOF of 0.6 meter
So does it really influences so much ?

Whatever, I had a look at a Mamiya RB fitted with a 55mm and Waist level finder.
It has a 3D look as well, though less than my C330.
Maybe those Mamiya lenses or the finder...

I love that look :)

I agree with others that the shallow medium format DOF is probably the
biggest effect, but I briefly shot a 35mm Topcon with a removable

level. I don't really know why.

OT: Frustration!

2011-01-07 Thread John Sessoms

I am about to lose my freakin' mind.

I have a computer I built in 2005 that was giving me some problems (CMOS
battery was old keyboard connection wasn't secure), and it needed a
new display. My old CRT was faded out not economically repairable.

Due to budgetary constraints, I waited until after the first of the year
to fix it. Bought a new LCD display to replace my faded CRT. Everything
tests out Ok. All I need to do is put back the four screws holding the
power supply in place.

I've got a whole little parts box with all the screws necessary to
build, repair or upgrade a PC. It's one of those little plastic divider
boxes.

I've seen that box here at the apartment within the last 72 hours. I
verified I had it here (along with the screw-drivers) before I went to
Raleigh to pick up the computer and buy the new LCD.

I can't find the box of screws anywhere.

As soon as I go out and buy more screws, I know I'll be tripping over
that box every time I turn around ... until I try to put the rest of the
new package of screws in it.

I'm sure it's some kind of conspiracy.

2011-01-07 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
This is another image that was rejected by the Pentax Gallery after
being under review for two weeks longer than any of the others
submitted at the same time. I really didn't expect it to get in, but
I like it for sentimental reasons (I'm an old Marine) and because it's
a 6x7 scan. (Scanned images seem harder to get into the Pentax
Gallery; I don't know whether that is because of the quality of the
scans, or because there is a bias against cameras they no longer sell)

 G'day all - and welcome to 2011!

Well, you certainly made me work for my first PUG - 31 submissions make
this the biggest gallery for some time.  Well done to all!  It was
really interesting to see the various ways in which the theme has been
 interpreted.

You'll find the gallery here - I've made a few subtle changes but it
 still has the 'JAlbum look'.

There were a couple of minor hiccups in getting the gallery on line - it
all seems to be working but, if you find any problems or dead links,
 please let me know ASAP.

I'm glad it came up again to revisit them .

But reading this article, I'll have to confess I was disturbed by the

I guess my question is, what do I do with this stuff? Check out the

No, Mr. Maloof doesnt believe it. Watching a segment recently on

After we get the K-3 and K-1 where will the model numbers go?

Since I'm pretty sure that the Flex board in the K-7 is the same as that
in the 645D, (it would only make sense from a cost perspective), and the
A lenses are supposedly electronically comparable from K mount to 645
mount, Pentax could easily implement such a thing in a future higher
level K body much as Nikon has done with their higher level bodies with
their older lenses.  I'd pay a little extra for a K-3 with that
capability.  Probably even buy one before a major price drop for it.
