Don, you certainly need to take more pictures and not just because the
skies are gray, you know. Having said that, I might suggest something
different. You see, the flower picture on the (most) uniform background
is very well known motif. What about a flower picture on the regular
background of other weeds and/or flowers but done in such a way that it
still feels 3D and the background does not distract the viewer? It is
not easy, but it may be more fun.

Yes, and it is quite wobbly on the barrel too. My sample was certainly
not good as I remember at the time Godfrey was using it with great

You certainly told an interesting story with your pictures, Chris. I am
thinking that the placement of the last picture in the sequence was a
bit unsuccessful as the one before it from the church tower would have
been an excellent finishing chord, so to say.

I had that lens at one time and found it surprisingly good. The portrait of the

found it sharp and contrasty, and it's an excellent focal length range for a

Anyone know what this is?  I'm guessing it's a warbler of some sort,

 Hope you enjoy.  Comments welcome.

I guess we have no right to complain, given the horrible, deadly

Thanks Bob and Christine.

Nearly all of the photos I've posted to Flickr since May 5th have come
out of the GXR. I'm finding it a very useful compact camera which
produces great results. I've expanded it more than I'd originally
planned already, and am waiting for the M-Lens camera module now (have
a Voigtländer Skopar 50mm f/2.5 all ready to fit to it ... :-).

This configuration ... camera, 28mm EFL module and optical finder ...
so far has been my base kit:

  http://homepage.mac.com/godders/ricoh-gxr-a12_28.jpg

I love using it with the simple optical finder so much that I've got a
Leica 5cm finder coming to use with the A12 50mm EFL module, and
already have a Voigtländer 75mm finder to use with the 50mm Skopar
when the camera module for it arrives.

That's very impressive.

I just googled the ricoh gxr to see what the camera looked like. Interesting
set-up for the interchangeable lenses.  Glad you're happy with it, Godfrey.
Nice portrait too--good iso quality.  Look forward to the pics.  Cheers,

I went and bought the A12 50mm f/2.5 Macro camera module for the Ricoh
GXR. Went out and snapped a few photos with it today.

It is a stunning performer ... This at ISO 1600:

I'm very pleased with this little camera. :-)

Re: X100

2011-05-30 Thread Steven Desjardins
I looked up his E-P1 review. He said there were not enough lenses and
that he recommended that you buy a Leica M instead. Seriously.

Incidentally, thanks to everyone who has commented.

I decided to get an opinion on the X100 from someone who knows about
photography. Here is what he said:

 Ideal for

Professional photographers on vacation, [...] rich people traveling, [...]
 and men who like toys.

Like a Porsche, no one needs a Fuji X100. THe Fuji X100 is a luxury for
people who want another nice camera for their collection or for one-time use
on their next vacation. THe X100 is [...] a nice trinket for people who own
 other cameras.

 Obviously a serious authority.
So which of these ownership descriptions do you ascribe to? ]'-)

I once had grandma look, these is where you glasses are (on the

bit of aversion towards putting things where I cannot see them...

 Boris

these things become such an automatic reflex. A couple of days ago I sat
down to read and without thinking about it, took my reading glasses from
their case and put them on. Picked up my book, then reached for my glasses
case only to see that my glasses weren't in there. It took a couple of
minutes of searching before I embarrassedly realised I was wearing them.
