Re: Photo.net no more
What some of us object to is the big pop-up that appears about 1 second into the page-load process. The pop-up covers about 80-90% of the window and (for me at least) is blank. Presumably, if I wait long enough, some advertising pitch will appear in that pop-up. I have never waited long enough to find out, I just close the photo.net window and go on to something else. Ads on the side, flashing banners, billboards on buses . . . all of that I can ignore. The photo.net approach which visually blocks my screen and prevents me from seeing anything while they leisurely load an ad for me to ignore, that is something with which I do not care to put up. stan On Jun 28, 2011, at 8:40 AM, John Sessoms wrote: From: Bob W If I get on a bus that says Trafalgar Square on the front, I don't want to be forced to go shopping first. A fallacious argument. You won't have to go shopping, but you will see ads on the side of the bus, on the bus shelter, and perhaps on the interior of the bus as well. And if they weren't there, you'd probably have to pay twice as much to ride that bus. It's commerce in a free society, and, for the most part, it works. Paul OK, I'm not forced to read or avoid the ads before I can get on the bus. I don't strongly object to sites, or buses, carrying ads, what I object to is the in-yer-face intrusive approach that photo.net have taken with theirs which spoils the experience of looking at your photos and those of others, so I won't go there. I lose, you lose, photo.net loses, the advertisers lose. How can you think that works? I understand what you're saying, but I just don't see the in-yer-face intrusive nature of the advertising at photo.net. I am not a member of photo.net, so if it's bad I should be getting the brunt of it. Right? I don't see the ads, but I can see the frames where the ads are located, and there's less advertising on the page than in the average newspaper or magazine. There's a banner at the top, and a banner at the bottom, and on some pages there's a box off to one side more or less in the middle. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Interesting effect: drastic change of color on photograph
It's a bit late but my semi calibrated CRT, (Hitachi SuperScan Elite 761*), shows them as blue. I thought it might be the screen being off so I tried it on my laptop as well, and the blue elements are blue there as well. On 6/14/2011 11:03 AM, Igor Roshchin wrote: Hi All! After taking photos at a party, I discovered an interesting effect. It was indoors, with uneven and not very bright light, so, I used a flash bounced from the ceiling, which made the light rather uniform. There were some party items in two colors: green and purple. In all shots, the purple came out as blue. All other colors are close to the original. I tried to play with the color temperature and tint in LR, but I cannot make it without skewing the rest of the colors. http://42graphy.org/snapshots/misc/_IR31001.jpg I suspect, that this particular color (dye) fluoresces from the flush, or something like that. This brought up an interesting discussion question: Imagine a well organized party with color matching of various elements (e.g. wedding, with bride's maids' dresses matching the plates, or whatever). In that case, the flash can change the way colors appear. By itself, it is nothing new - the same color on different surfices can appear differently in different light. But, - it would be a nightmare for the photographer (and the wedding organizer, if that person was in charge for the photographs). This opens up many interesting questions that I've never heard discussed. On one hand the event organizer should be aware of such potential problems, - but I am curious, - how many of them try to see how things look under the flash light? I know that, say, stage directors for theaters/ballet are aware of such issues, - I had a chance of talking with one from a famous Russian ballet troup touring the US some 12 years ago. They had to deal with the variation of the light temperature/color in different cities. Otherwise, slightly blueish tutus (Swan Lake) in a yellowish main stage white light look green. If you have worked with the wedding/event organizers who had dealt with such situations, - I'd be very curious to hear about it. And if you were the photographer, - how did you deal with it? Olympus OM system lenses are easily adapted to Olympus and Panasonic FourThirds, Olympus and Panasonic Micro-FourThirds, Sony NEX, and Canon EOS lens mounts. They work well on everything from FourThirds format to full frame. The Olympus Pen F system lenses from the 1960s were mostly single coated, but OM System (first introduced in the 1972-1973 time period) were almost all multicoated optics like most SLR lenses post 1970 or so. Some of the OM lenses are highly sought after and carry big price tags even today, like the 21mm f/2. I had a kit of Olympus OM equipment for a period of time circa 1975 to 1977. Olympus lenses were always very high quality and the OM-1n and OM-2 were very compact and nicely made. -- Godfrey godfreydigiorgi.posterous.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Bob S is pestering me because I said that I despise advertising when I'm trying to look at photos in the discussion about photo.wreck. He's evidently a lover of advertising and photo.wreck. Well, number one ... this isn't looking at photos. It's looking at a youtube video. So he's just being a PITA. But more significantly, I don't see any advertising when I look at the link I posted, in either FireFox or Safari. The screen capture shows what I see. I don't have any adblockers installed either. I'm forever clicking ads out of the way it seems, and I have occasionally linked to one by accident. Perhaps we'll soon be rid of them. All of the web ads I've written in recent years have been banner style, although clients frequently ask to see pop-ups or other invasive page takeover concepts. But I've never had to produce one.
