Re: For street shooters - 90 degree mirror add-on lens
Takes a lot of time to develop the skills to place an image you want to capture. Moving the lens to settle on something has you fighting with having the lens's mirror at a pretty precise 90 degrees from the horizon. If you tip the lens down a fraction, it goes astray. But it's inexpensive, a frustration to use, fools few when they notice your antics trying to seem to be pointing the lens at something in front of you while rocking the camera body left and right to find your true subject. I got a set (-1) of 1981 Byte. Fun reading. Am giving some work to wife and her family. Picked up an old telesar power duplicator. Put it on the front of the tamron 24/2.5 and old sears 202 series 28-70. Results are decent. But it is the best I can do at the moment. I need a copier since my Nikon died. Even at 500mm there was a lot of extra room in the frame so I just centered the bird and used the center autofocus point then did my composition when I cropped, so I can easily recompose with the bird further to the right in the frame. I guess, what Ken is talking about is not the framing but rather how the head is turned. I agree with that. I can't go back and change the head, but here is a reframing of it: http://www.fluidr.com/photos/ellarsee/11543308935/ original: http://www.fluidr.com/photos/ellarsee/11526991656 I like LRC10100 the most. I think that one is what Ken referred to as the second image. The sixth (10107) is just a bit too much straight, it needs just a bit more turn of the head. I'm afraid that that isn't something I can do anything about. Today, I was prepared to go back out with bigma and monopod. Before lunch, on my way to the lab, the birds were out in force. In the afternoon, when I had time to shoot, waiting for the installation program to finish, they were gone, nary a sparrow to be seen. Best, Igor PS. Re: Waiting to Mush
I actually am thinking of attaching a GoPro camera to the sled, when he and I get a bet more skilled at mushing. There is a large tract of woods, owned by the municipality and restricted as open space, to the west of our property. A major underground sewer trunk line goes through the property, and there is a sewer easement that is kept clear of trees and rocks, so that vehicles an access the sewer line if necessary. Our champion M, after he retired from the show ring, loved the weight pulling contests. As anyone who has been around sled dogs knows, when the dogs see the harness, they get very impatient and a bit rowdy, so I took his portrait before bringing out the harness. Re: GESO - Ice Storm Gallery
Thanks, Dan, and thanks to everyone else who commented. We were very lucky in New Toronto (older suburb just west of the city). No one out here was affected that I heard of. Just east (Mimico) and west (Long Branch and Mississauga) of us lost power; some for only a few hours, some longer. At one point I think up to several hundred thousand were without electricity. As of yesterday there were 120,000, today down to 70,000. The storm hit on Saturday night and Sunday so this is a long time in freezing temps to be without power. It's all downed wires, all very local so it's a time-consuming procedure to get things repaired on a block by block basis. Luckily no deaths reported. There certainly is a beauty to it though. If I wanted the grip (which I don’t) and needed a 50mm lens (I already have the FA 50 f/1.4), it would be the best deal I’ve seen yet.
