OT?: I've made the final round. Help a PDMLer win?
If you are a PentaxForums member you probably already got the email to the 3rd (and FINAL) round viewing and voting threads. With the PDML's help my 2nd round photo was good enough to get me into the final round, meaning that I should have a 1:32 chance of winning (all things being equal). The thing is that the rules keep changing (which is a little frustrating) and now they have some convoluted formula that factors in how you did in Rounds 1 2. I'm not sure, because it makes my head hurt to think about, but it looks like one could actually make the 3rd round, WIN IT, and still not win the contest. Completely weird. Also weird is that this contest is open to non-Pentax shooting photographers. I think it would be an affront to most Pentax shooters to have a non-Pentax using photographer win the PentaxForums contest and the K-3, but maybe that's just me. What I do know is this: More votes in the 3rd round would be better than fewer rounds, so I thought I would let my fellow PDMLers know that I made it there and would again appreciate your support (should you think the photo merits it). Also, keep in mind that you CAN vote for 3 images, so if you should decide to vote for just ONE you would be providing that ONE an extra boost - completely within the ever-changing rules of this contest. But for those who can hold their nose, log-in, and cast a vote (or three), know that you will have my gratitude. PESO 2014 - This and That - GDG
Had a little fun ... A friend gave me some pretty old Polaroid Type 667 pack film, so I wanted to test it and find out if it was still any good. I pulled out the Model 100 back for the Hasselblad and fitted it. A few snaps with a test target determined that it has lost about half its speed (ISO 3000 nominal, ISO 1200-1600 works ok now) and requires about 3 minutes processing time as opposed to the original 90 seconds. I then made a couple of quick portraits to test it ... https://flic.kr/p/oGK15v - with Sonnar 150mm @ f/4 @ 1/15 second (hand held) https://flic.kr/p/oEHyMP - with Planar 80mm @ f/5.6 @ 1/15 second (tripod mounted) Having too much to do today, I just used the iPad mini to snap a photo of them and processed them in Snapseed to a JPEG. A real scan with my usual setup and they'll look a lot better technically, but I kind of liked the texture and feel of them this way. I suspect there's a fun little project of Polaroid photos made with Hasselblad to come now. enjoy! My brother and I ran into Don and Dave Wolf, who recently had a brief stint on a reality program: Big Rig Bounty Hunters. During their time on the program they became intimately familiar with the performance and capabilities of the GoPro Hero 3 so they bought one to take photos of themselves with other twins at the festival. I didn't know this, but I was doing the same thing with my $49 W00T-special camera. So we bumped into each other, got close, and Dave and I held our cameras up together to get the shot. Dave and Don are looking at my camera... Me and my brother are looking at their camera. I dunno - *I* was amused, anyways. http://charles.robinsontwins.org/photos/2014/twins%20days/content/FILE0007_1_large.html -Charles -- Charles Robinson - charl...@visi.com Minneapolis, MN http://charles.robinsontwins.org http://www.facebook.com/charles.robinson -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: GESO: Canadian Rockies
Really enjoyed your GESO, Matt. Plenty to keep holiday makers photographers busy. Are the bears dangerous? Re: GESO Quick Trip to Asheville, NC
An excellent GESO, Christine. Looks like a very interesting place. Love the forest mountain scenes. Had a quick romp downtown on Saturday and did a Sunday drive with colleagues along the Blue Ridge Parkway, stopping at the Craft Guild and Mount Mitchell. Had an absolute blast! Came home only to read Asheville, NC made the top 10 list of the friendliest cities in the U.S. It was listed as number 10. I concur! http://www.caguila.com/myash/index.html Cheers, Christine -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Re: PESO orchid
Exquisite. You certainly succeeded with that one. You don't exactly have the ideal conditions there. Alan C -Original Message- From: Paul Stenquist Sent: Sunday, August 10, 2014 10:58 PM To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List Subject: PESO orchid I struggled with a few orchids for years, trying to get them to bloom. Nothing. Moved them to a different location with just a bit more sun and they now bloom with regularity. Took this one out on the deck to shoot it this morning. http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=17832047size=lg -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Re: Kruger 1-4/08/2014 (Wrap up)
Thanks to you all for the comments. Yes, we did have a wonderful W/E with far above average sightings. My wife, Ann, took a lot with her Fuji Super-zoom too. Some are so good it makes one wonder about the need for a DSLR! Ann - a love scene - the female hyaena was feeding it's 4 pups. There were 5 rhinos at Ntananyathi dam with quite an argy-bargy going on. Kruger is busy moving rhinos to safer locations to try curb the poaching activities. In spite of a huge ranger military effort, the poachers are still killing 3/day the death rate now exceeds the birth rate. Dave John - it was my 20th Skukuza H/M. I used to run it in under 1:30 when I was younger. 2:00 is a self imposed target. I was probably the oldest runner in the race but, sadly, no prizes for M70's.
