PESO An unintended portrait
Hi Team. Last week was the end of school holidays and I had a kids variety/dance concert to shoot so I invited #1 son to accompany me as assistant. Apart from shooting the show we also had to shoot a head-shot of each performer in their performance make-up. We arrived well before the show but it was still chaotic, the only place to set up for the head-shots was on stage as the stage/sound/lighting tech run was in full swing. I managed to set up my lights out of the way but kids still bumped them so I had a bit of inconsistency on the fill and the coloured stage lights above us were being turned on sporadically so it was interesting to say the least. Whilst I set up lights I had #1 Son standing in as model/assistant. It's one of the few times when he has been aware of a camera pointed directly at him and he has maintained a natural composure so I'm quite taken with this shot. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9304908/temp/IMGL72760-001.JPG K3 DA50-135/2.8 @ FL 135mm f7.1 illuminated using 2 x Elinchrom BXRi 500, 44cm white beauty dish and centre diffuser as key, standard 16cm reflector as side fill. PESO Sigma sample
Hi Team, I recently purchased the Sigma 18-35/1.8, basically as soon as it became available in K-mount. I needed a really fast zoom to further my low light performance photography capabilities. Whilst the zoom range is a bit limiting this lens is really usable wide open and focus is reliable (contrary to many reports that I have read). It's been invaluable in low light and in studio, I'm pretty happy with the purchase, it's definitely opened up new shooting opportunities for me. The following shot is an out of camera jpg shot of the room that the previous portrait was shot in just to give you an idea of the capabilities of this lens: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9304908/temp/IMGS08248.JPG (~7MB) K5IIs Sigma Art 18-35/1.8 @ FL 18mm f2.2 1/15s hand held. Re: PESO Sigma sample
Larry, I considered selling mine also, but the lure or the prospect of a full frame and the pain of selling has lead me to keep it for now. I think that the FA31 may be marginally better and lighter of course but the Sigma is significantly more versatile and very very capable. I might do come comparison shots when I have the time. Last week was the end of school holidays and I had a kids variety/dance concert to shoot so I invited #1 son to accompany me as assistant. We arrived well before the show but it was still chaotic, the only place to set up for the head-shots was on stage as the stage/sound/lighting tech run was in full swing. Headed for Dorset, England in a few weeks... PDML meet-up?
Meg and I will spend a few days in England on the front end of a cruise through Madeira and the Canaries back over to the Caribbean. We’ll arrive early Thursday 30 Oct, head for Shaftsbury (a small hill town west of Salisbury) where we’ll stay through Sunday morning when we head to Southampton to board our ship. We have some family obligations while there - Meg’s father’s cousin’s widow and her family are expecting us sometime late Saturday. However, it likes like it will work out for us to spend several hours in Salisbury Saturday morning through mid-afternoon, and we would love to visit with a gaggle (herd?) of PDMLers. There are rumors that there may be an invasion by a Norseman looking to stock his larder before the snows set in, and of course we can always hope for news coverage of the event. Details to follow as they come available, but for now set aside the date. Also note that on Friday 31 Oct Meg and I will likely be wandering the byways of that region, seeking photo opportunities and fine English pub cuisine. Let me know if you have free time Friday and would like to link up then. stan -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

What intrigued me were the colors, the geometry of the crane, and its remarkable complexity--cables, blocks, bolts, a flag, and who knew that there would be an anemometer atop a crane? Pentax *ist-Ds Blues
I was going to take a few night photos in a location where I didn't want to risk the K-5II or even the K20D, so I put a set new of Litniam disposables into the old *ist-Ds. Well the damned camera won't turn on. Tested the batteries and all were with specification for the camera to turn on. Cleaned the battery contacts, (using a rubber eraser), still no joy. Dragged out the external power supply, plugged it in and into the camera, it comes right on. Last time I used it it worked fine with disposable lithiums. This is quite annoying. The only reason that I kept the camera was for just this occasion, it's not economically repairable, and hell I could buy a K-7 or another K20D for 200-300 dollars. End of Rant. SYCAMORE FIG (Wrap up)
(I have simplified this mail as much as possible in the hope it will go through not be considered unsolicited bulk mail). Thanks to all for looking commenting. The Sycamore Fig (Ficus sycamorus) is the dominant tree species growing on Lowveld river banks. They become very large. Home to many animals birds. The fruit is edible apparently very tasty but considered too insect infested for general human consumption. The animals birds don't mind though! Birds, monkeys, baboons fruit bats eat aloft while antelope, hogs, cattle elephants clean up below. Unfortunately, in town, most of the fruit is wasted we have to put up with the pong of rotting fruit for a couple of weeks. Alan C --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Re: PESO: In the audience
That close in shot is a great image Charles, great light and the way that the they are in situated in the midst of the crowd really gives it a unique perspective. Re: Fw: PESO - 123rd Avenue
Lovely image Mark, the composition, colour and textures are so rich, you did a great job bringing up the details in the shadow areas too. Re: Pentax *ist-Ds Blues
Try another set of batteries first, the internal resistance of he lithiums may be out of spec so they die under load? On 10 October 2014 14:30, P.J. Alling webstertwenty...@gmail.com wrote: I was going to take a few night photos in a location where I didn't want to risk the K-5II or even the K20D, so I put a set new of Litniam disposables into the old *ist-Ds.
