There is, perhaps, a reason why Sigma is short for SIGnificant MAlfunction

Re: OT Laptops and photo editing

2023-03-07 Thread Doug Brewer
Just as a comment, I have a relatively heavy photo load when I'm busy,
and I push my devices pretty hard. Much of my decision path was colored
by that, and I went with what I thought could handle it. I do not know
your needs, and it is entirely possible that what I have would be
overkill for you. It's your call.

For email, I just use Mail on my phone and haven't decided if I will do
that with the iPad yet. Probably not, but we'll see. Browser would work
fine, too.

There appears to be a Firefox app for iOS, yes.

Same for Gmail.

Not sure what you need on the folders question, although I do hope you
have your photos backed up to at least a couple of external drives in
case your desktop goes toes up. That said, there's a ton of options for
storing and manipulating photos on an iPad. I think Godders uses a
combination of apps along with the Apple Photos software, for example. I
have Lightroom Mobile and the Pshop for iPad app, so I can sync up with
my desktop easily. Seems like you mentioned wanting to use more up to
date versions of both Lr and Ps, so the mobile versions might be the way
to go.

Maybe not the clarity you hoped for.

Amazon is great for when you can foresee you're going to need SD cards
(or whatever form factor your non-Pentax camera uses if you have one) ...

B is good too even if a bit pricier.

But it seems like if I ever NEED more cards, then I need them RIGHT NOW!

... & hopefully there's a local camera store somewhere nearby that
stocks the better quality cards - otherwise it's gonna be what I can
find at Walmart (or Target, Best Buy ... Walgreens) .

Shopping on Amazon for the SanDisk Extreme Pro
32 GB 100MB/s $13.35 2.39 GB/$ also $12.29
64 GB 200MB/s $15.38 4.16 GB/$ also $15
128 GB 200MB/s $24.10 5.31 GB/$ also $23

512 GB 200 MB/s $79.70 6.42 GB/$ also $69
1TB 200 MB/s 197.05 5.19 GB/$ also $188

Something weird happened, I was looking at the 512 at $69, ordered 2 and
it switched me over to the page for them at $79.
The $79 version is said to arrive Wed, March 8, the $69 March 12-15. Sold
by "sales for you" and fulfilled by amazon

First of all I am simply boggled by how cheap SD memory has gotten. Now
there's something weird where if you change the number you order, the price
and delivery will change.

I can see a couple of advantages to big cards besides price per GB.
The first is that the only time I lost a bunch of photos was when I was
shooting at the Monterey historics, ran out of space on my cards, swapped
them and when I got home one had disappeared. I probably dropped it when I
thought i was putting it into the used card pocket of my camera strap.

The other is that with solid state, you're limited to the number of write
cycles, so the less of the card you use at a time, the longer it should
last.
On a trip, however, there are serious disadvantages to having too many
files on a card when you're copying them off of the card onto a computer
each day. I'm one of those people who doesn't like to erase my SD cards
until I get home from a trip.

But $.16 per GB? Yowza!

One sending from Rick; same message ID for both. But by the time they leave
smpclient.apple, the ESMTPSA IDs are different. There's a sequence of numbers
at the end of the latter ID which go 12.2023.03.06.11.34.18 That is clearly a
timestamp. On the other, it goes 120.2023.03.06.11.34.19 There is then a one
second difference for the rest of the route until they arrive at me, when they
are back in time.

Have you looked at the headers on the duplicates to see if it was two separate
