Very interesting, Rick. Scenes quite unfamiliar to me & the whole place
spotlessly clean.

I mislabeled the folder, hence the odd link.

(All with K-5 and either 17-70 or 10-17 fisheye).

Comments always appreciated.

OT GESO, bike ride with the u4/3

2023-06-06 Thread Larry Colen
About a year ago, I picked up some used u4/3 gear to carry on bike rides. On
my bike rides I’ve been using the Oly 14-150.

The good news is that it is a lot smaller and lighter than even the APS Pentax
kit. It also does a better job than my phone camera.

I am still struggling with the UI. A large part of that is just after almost
15 years of using Pentax DSLRs, I’m pretty familiar with them, though I do
admit that the K-3 III often leaves me stumped. It is also quite possible that
Pentax just did a better job with the UI than did Panasonic.

While the area difference between u4/3 and APS is about the same as between APS
and FF, processing the raw files, I notice a much bigger difference in how
“brittle” the files are. They seem to have more noise, and less dynamic range.
My gut feeling is that they are also a lot more brittle when it comes to
cropping in close.

There aren’t any really good photos in these sets, I think that they are mostly
interesting as casual snapshots, and for technical comparisons. There are
several duplicates in this set because I was experimenting with and comparing
different processing (mostly HDR and not).

In a couple of the shots, you can see a herd of wild burros in the field, many
hanging out in the shade under a tree.

In comparison, here are a bunch of very casual snaps and selfies I took with my
phone. Some of them just to geotag the photos with the Gx9.

I don’t know if this link will work for folks without google accounts, they say
