I feel your pain. I lost about four years' work due to a hardware failure
(exacerbated by my own stupidity) and have hardly picked up a camera since.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, Rick. Sometimes I feel that you are to
computers what Dave Brooks is to spell-checkers.

Computers! Aargh!

2023-11-14 Thread Rick Womer
I’ve accumulated a lot of photos recently, from travel and walks through groves
of autumn color.

Today I sat down to post some. But…

When I launched Lightroom the window that should have displayed the photos was
blank. Both my primary and secondary external hard drives had errors that Disk
Utility couldn’t fix. I have no idea why.

Not sure how to approach this yet, but I will likely spend several more hours
sorting things out.

Sometimes I really miss film, a light box, and a loupe.

(Second try responding to Stan's post:)

The photo of your grandmother is not sharp, so not much is gained by any
resolution > 300.
The pic of your granddad is likely a professional photo and this will
provide somewhat more details at higher resolution (> 300). However what
gets worse is that part of the right side of his face is shown to be
covered with weathering effects of the picture surface (fungi?), which
makes the end result at higher resolutions unacceptable in my opinion as it
would not be easy to retouch. Sharpening and adding more contrast in
photoshop will make this weathering even worse.
