Re: June PUG is up

2022-06-13 Thread Eric Featherstone
Thanks Rick!
The lighting is simply whatever is stuck to the roof of my shed - two
strips of LED tape - and the daylight coming in through the door. So I
got lucky there. There were shots at a couple of apertures, but that
one was the DOF I liked best.

Regards,
Eric.

Easy enough. Apart from the very initial setup, you control it through
a webpage on the device itself which includes a control panel for
creating users, passwords, formatting disks etc and a file manager for
creating folders.

Navigate to a folder, or All Photographs in the navigator then from the menu
Library / Previews / Build 1:1 Previews
or
Library / Previews / Build Standard Sized Previews
(and it'll probably prompt you with Build full previews for all photos
or only one? if you only had one photo selected.)

(This is on 5.7.1 for Windows.)

I'm not an expert but when I looked at "One that was not" my first
thought was camera shake. I would have thought that a focal length of
87mm @ 1/125 second would have been ok but it looks shaky to me.

Oddly the "One that was improved by editing" has no camera shake even
at a fl of 225mm @ 1/125 s, which is where I would expect shake to
start to come into play. So clearly you can hold it steady.

And then when I saw the Fuji shot my first thought was "Hey, come on,
you're not being fair at all" :-)
The Pentax shots were indoors in dull dim light, the Fuji outside in
bright sunlight; of course the Fuji shot will pop more.
That's in addition to what people have said about pro lens vs
consumer, and short lens vs long etc.

But that's just my guesses.

The speed tester at : http://beta.speedtest.net/
doesn't require flash, so you should be good to go.
(Their legacy speedtest page does require flash, so don't bother with that.)

FWIW Chrome has flash built in, and when chrome auto-updates it also
updates its version of flash. Personally I'm reluctant to install
flash other than as part of chrome for that reason.

It seems to me that you've only uploaded the one photo to photo.net. You
may think you've uploaded more, but there's only the one you posted earlier
visible in your gallery here.

Maybe the others are set to private or something? I'm just guessing.

Re: Why did my K1 not go automatically to DST?

2017-03-27 Thread Eric Featherstone
Just because the K-1 has a GPS doesn't mean it knows about DST. For
that you need an extra file of info listing for every country in the
world the dates that DST in that country begins and ends. My Garmin
gps for example has such a list (and that list gets regular updates)
and the firmware to make use of such a list. I doubt Pentax implements
such a scheme or distributes such a list. Understanding timezones is
bad enough [1], understanding the continually changing DST laws is
harder. That's why there's the DST checkbox in the menu system.

Looking between the cropped/uncropped I think I found the vast bulk of

seemed a little overwhelming, and cropping helps reduce that a bit. I
think I slightly favour the original though. :)

The one with more features in the sky is a third shot I threw in
there, which might have confused.

decent enough. Only thing and i'm not sure its due to the lens or the
camera metering but when using the 17-70 or the 50-200 a +.3 EV
correction is needed. I used +0.7 and all of the DNG's are still way
under exposed. I would normally get a small amount of under exposure
shooting into the sun with my other lenses but every shot, into the
sun or with the sun, is quite a bit under exposed. I'll need to adjust
 every one in LR.

 Any thoughts on this.

Thanks Bob. A thought provoking comment as I don't think I'd noticed

time I took the photo. It's probably something I /should/ be thinking

PESO moss garden

2016-05-18 Thread Eric Featherstone
Again, from Kyoto, but on the western side this time in the Arashiyama
district.

I'd been planning to go to tenryuji (literally heavenly dragon temple)
to see the dragon that's supposed to look back at you wherever you
stand. But it was closed. I guess the dragon was tired what with all
the looking around it must have to do.

So I went next door to nonomiya shrine which is much smaller and has a
moss garden.

If you meant this one:

it looks like a Jaguar XK120. The XK140 is very similar but I think
had fewer bars in the grill and a chrome strip down the centreline of
the bonnet.

The badge in Paul's photo says Mini :-)

Note that the mini name was also used in the '90s when Rover group
owned the marque, and I'd say that badge and car date from that era.
