My manual focus Tamron 300/2.8 works in A mode with its matched 2X, it also works and either way above with the Pentax 1.7X-AF - also works! My M lenses work with just a tiny adjustment in the Custom settings My Screw mount lenses work with the adapter My RUSSIAN and Carl Zeiss Jena medium format lenses work even. I tried everything from my Arsat 30mm to Sonnar 180mm Sonnar 300mm and even my huge Pentacon 500/5.6f worked because I have a pentacon to screw mount adapter that then works with my screw to K! My Pentax 15mm/3.5A worked fine, the Limited shoot beautifully. I think its over priced compared to comparible cameras, but its the onyl DSLR with a K mount, so its exactly what I need!

Question about m and k lens terminology
Hi, I have two pentax smc k mount lenses. One is 100mm smc-m f/4 and the other is a 50mm smc-a f/1.4. I assume the smc-m is a m lens and the smc-a is an a lens from what I've read and seen. What kind of markings do the k lenses have? Thanks, John
k and m lens answer
Hi, I think I found the answer by carefully reading Boz's KMP page. The K lenses only have SMC engraved on the lens surround and not SMC-xx. Can anyone confirm this? Is there a jpeg of a SMC lens I can view? Thanks, John

A medium format camera 1975 The Pentax K series is introduced, all with bayonet lens mounts. The series includes the Pentax K2 with fully automatic exposure, the Pentax KX with a needle matching indicator for the TTL light measuring system, and the Pentax KM, with a TTL light measuring system. So if the bayonet mount was on the 6x7 in 1969 and on 35mm slr in 1975 maybe K mount means the sound of the components clicking into place. I'm thinking that the S mount meaning screw mount is, in the English pronounciation, a schch sound. Probably not but makes sense to me. John
Re: Sad news
Mark, I've found a buyer for my mint condition K2 and 50mm f/1.4 (sob!) Hope it found a good home! Next on the block to finance my transition from analog to digital will be, appropriately enough, a vinyl record album: I have one of Mobile Fidelity's extra-expensive, limited edition (only 5000 made) UHQR records. It's the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper. It'll go up on eBay in a week or so where they fetched about $500.00 last time I checked. WOW! Weren't they originally about $100? John (in Ohio, maybe I can make to your area, I'm an hour from Sharon,PA)
Re: Origin of K mount name
Dario, This is really good information. I can see if any of my German friends have any knowledge of cameras from the 60s. And thank you for the AOHC package! Can't wait for the Spotmatic magazine. Re: More *ist-D images [FA* 300mm]
Stan, I see nothing wrong with these technically on my monitor. So this is effectively 600+ telephoto (900?)! What tripod setup did you use? Run! Don't walk! to buy this! For academic interest, herewith is presented a shot with *ist-D at ISO 200, FA* 300mm/4.5 plus Pentax A-2X-S. The really curious may contact me off list and I can provide the original jpeg. Thanks, John

Stan, I wonder if a tripod mountable lens holding device for these has been invented? John 3030 tripod head. The 300mm does not have a tripod mount, so it was hanging off the 2X extender, just floating around in the breeze. For some shots later I used the self-timer with mirror lockup but for these bird shots I used neither a remote nor the timer. stan

Re: Help! My LX is stuck
Peter, I had a similar problem with my LX. The film door would not latch correctly and when I tried to open it I would have the same experience you are having. Also, since the door didn't close and latch properly I would sometimes get light streaks on my film! I sent the camera to be repaired by Pentax, USA and haven't had a problem, however I don't know if you have the same option where you are but I know that officially Pentax is still repairing LXen. Oh, I forgot to say, that the film door is probably out of alignment or twisted. If you can get the door to open you could remove it and try another door if you have one available. (I just compared my LX to my MX and the MX is slightly smaller and the door of the MX is angled at the corners while the LX door is rounded. John The door has a little play in it, as expected, so doesn't seem to be stuck... its more like pulling up on the rewind lever doesn't release the spring latch. It doesn't have that 'sprung' feel to the final bit of the movement, it just comes out a certain way and stops.

smc-f lens question
Hello, Looking at Dario Bonanzza's samples with different lenses I see one called an SMC F 70-210 zoom. Is this a manual aperture stop down metering lens? I've read about the A and FA lenses on Dimitri's KMP site but I don't remember a lens with just the SMC F designation. Also, is this a 42mm screw mount or a PK? Thanks, John `:^ )
