RE: May PUG is up

2024-05-07 Thread pkn291262
I always look but seldom comment. I find it interesting to see how others
interpret the theme. I always enjoy those that push the interpretation. I think
of Alan's Panorama a while ago. I did try to think of something for this months
on the lines of the question "Is there still life in this?" I did enjoy Rick's
picture of the desk. I brought back memories of a similar one that my mother
had.

It's interesting that the usual concept of 'Still Life' involves inanimate
objects, which may be still but are certainly not living. Your submission fits
the literal meaning of still life. :-)

Alan's submission is an innovative interpretation of the theme :-)

RE: Australia - Brisbane and Perth

2023-08-15 Thread pkn291262
Mike David and Brian
Many thanks for your feedback. I am visiting my brother and sisters in
Australia for the first time since they left 20+ years ago. The main purpose
of the trip is to see family before we are too old. On the Brisbane side I
believe a side excursion to the Sunshine coast is planned for 5 days. I was
planning to push to see Freemantle when in Perth. I am trusting that the
family has a good idea of where to go. I was asked if there is anything I
wanted to see but had no idea.
Thanks once again

"Don't know about B film. Perth is amazingly unphotogenic. It is not a
city of great character or charisma. Fremantle is way more interesting, and
perhaps it qualifies, seeing that it is more or less attached to Perth.
There is an amazing lack of interesting architecture in Perth. Fremantle has
the convict era stuff which has merit. I can't think of any particular
advice I could offer anyone, but am happy if you want to put your friend in
touch.

Somewhere back in the Tag thread I may have put up some pics of the old
railway workshops and brickworks, all of which are being preserved. I find
"industrial archeology" to be of photogenic significance, but with almost
everything being less than 200 years old, there's not a lot of choice.
There's an awful lot of concrete and corrugated iron here, and some bizarre
recent modernistic footbridges and stadiums that attract attention by
controversy rather than merit."

Do you want me to pass your email over?

I am planning a trip to Australia end of October. It is a family visit trip
so not much photography time other than family photo's. Any suggestions of
places to visit in two area's and surroundings if I get a chance? Any places
where I can buy black and white film or should I take enough with me. Will
probably take the K3 and a mz5n.

Thanks for any input

RE: Pentax is considering releasing a new film camera

2022-12-22 Thread pkn291262
Depending on cost I would be interested. As indicated in the 3 part poll I
often use both film and digital at the same time. Film largely for black and
white. The compatibility with some of the newer lenses with my old film
bodies has prevented me in investing in some of the newer lenses. A film
body that could use the sdm lenses would open up the use of those lenses. It
also would give me a replacement option if something went wrong with my
current film bodies that I use. MZ5-n MZ-s z1-p.

Don't know whether there will be much interest for this, but I still have
some 10 Pentax reflex bodies in my cupboard.

a) Me Super - first slr camera and still probably my favourite
b) Pentax a35 - only prime 35mm used all others part of zoom range
c) Compatibility between film and digital cameras for lenses. Don't need to
carry duplicate lenses when carrying both.

Ya, ya, I know it’s been done a million times.\ But I wanted to add a
comparative twist to it.

What has been your

(a) Favorite 35mm camera\
(b) The sharpest 35mm you ever used\
(c) Why you stuck with Pentax

For me …\
(a) Canon G-III QL17. Convenient and sharp. Easy to use.\
(b) Tie: Rollei 35 S (Planar) and Contax T2. But too valuable to hang onto.\
(c) K1000 was 1st SLR. Always enjoyed simplicity + durability. (Same reason
I’ve driven Chevy & Toyota)

Hi
As Paul said there some that work as abstractions and others are nice photo's.
I am far from an expert but to me these worked as abstractions
Blonde
Echinacea
Jellies
Ornament
Shroom2
Seeds
There are some which I think would work if cropped
Been there
Rainbow Eucalyptus
Red sky
All in all an interesting Gallery

Excellent. I’d call some of these abstract, but any are just nice photos with
unique or unusual perspective.
