PF 2006 wanting to say Hi!
Hi friends, I just popped in for a while, after unsubscribing for doing too much photography :) First, let me wish you a good and felicitous New Year (for those with our calendar, for the Orthodox countries, just wait a week g, and the Chinese wait a bit longer please), and invite you to look at my New Year greeting / PF2006 card (Pour FĂ©liciter 2006) here: http://www.frantisekvlcek.com/PF2006.jpg Meanwhile, I am still in the photojournalism field, working for a big daily paper, and still with Nikons as when I was freelance. As Cotty could attest, journalism can be lot of fun but also a lot of work, endless waiting with brief moments of shutters tearing themselves at 8 fps and my back burdened by heavy camera gear... ;-) Although his TV cam is of course much heavier. Not much time to check the list, to hear the endless whining about DSLRs (is it still so?) or the interesting OT discussions... I will unsubscribe in few days again, so I wish you a nice time, don't fight too much over the missing aperture lever (heh, even Nikon's D200 has it once again g, d r) and of course good light for your photography! Frantisek
A plea to UK members
Hi, I would like to ask if somebody from the UK isn't planning to visit lovely Prague in the neartime (hey Mike, I know it's now my turn to go to your country g, but I have no holidays left...). I wanted to buy some clothing from a fine army surplus supplier Cotty once recommended (no I am no militarism crazyman, actually on the contrary as those who know me can attest g, but I have to admit the military does make some fine clothing, and some of it is not even camo), but the shipping even withing EU exceeds the actual price of the goods ;-( So if perchance somebody is going to Prague or Czech Republic, I want to ask for a favour, for their help with carrying it - it's about 3-4 Kg ( a parka and a weatherproof jacket) but postage from the UK for packets seems exceptional. Otherwise, I would have to fly to the UK, might be cheaper ;-) I of course offer reimbursements with fine drinks and touring Prague's lesser known quarters/pubs ;-) Thanks Frantisek
OT: Congratulations to our UK members
on the resignation of Blunkett :-) Frantisek
Computer crash = off list
Hi, I wonder how much debates I missed from last week. My computer made a spectacular fireworks explosion of itsel (actually, only the motherboard got schorched from loosened 12V contacts, which were loose and created sparks which burned the plastic). Fortunately, all the hard disks and other accessories survived fine. Just the motherboard is probably close to dead now. It all comes down to the lowest common denominator - an expensive motherboard and latest CPU can get blown by the least expensive, not the best made, contacts and wires. I will try to catch up with the messages once I get another system up and running. I am curious how the GFM went (or is it not yet?) Frantisek
Re: Asahi 1/21 Spotmeter...
I've picked up an Asahi 1/21 spotmeter from a fellow list member, and I've got two questions about it that I hope the group can answer: Hi Tim, perhaps a scanned manual of one of the incarnations of the1/21 will help you... see my webpage at: http://www.volny.cz/fotof/tech/ for it. I have the latest model, and indeed it's very nice. Frantisek photos at www.volny.cz/ffranta ZDARMA a RYCHL zasln SMS z www.posliSMS.cz
Re: Pentax 67 and CZJ
Since they were originally designed for 6x6 I don't believe they provide enough coverage for the 6x7 negative. Evan Evan, this is quite a simplification, without knowing exact facts I wouldn't say so. As I know exact facts, I also know you are wrong :) The longer lenses can and have been in the past used on 67. The Pentacon(CZJ) Prakticar/Meyer Goerlitz 5.6/500 telephoto has been used by fashion shooters adopted to 67. Although it was made by machining the rear part of lens I think. I have actually seen one in flesh, but not from close. The 180/2.8 CZJ Sonnar is a non-telephoto design (ie it's a longfocus lens) covering about 30 degrees IIRC, so it could perhaps cover 67 as well (non-telephoto lenses have usually quite bigger coverage than telephotos). This one, if you can find the older Flektoskop (for Contax RF cameras, like Leitz Visoflex system), the rear mount part can be easily unscrewed, and a simple adapter made from 67 tube could be made by machinist. There should be enough space for infinity focus IMHO (will check). I don't know if it would be economical there, here P6 lenses are relatively quite cheaper (or were, until Ebay), so it would be economical certainly over an original 500/5.6, and perhaps over Also, the Arsenal Kiev (IIRC) made Fisheye lens 30/3.5 CAN be made into 67 mount. See www.smu.edu/~rmonagha/mf and he has quite lot of posts pertaining to this theme, if you can find them. The deal was that the rear housing of the lens was removed (easily, as the lens is manufactured in one version but fitting two bayonet mounts, P6 and K88/Hassy1000, so they just exchange the rear part at the factory IIRC), and a 67 mount machined. Some have extrememly good praise of the fisheye, saying that it is better than the original Pentax (and certainly it is quite cheaper). HTH, Frantisek P.S.: I think it would all make sense only for the 500/5.6 lens and the fisheye. I don't think the wides like the excellent 4/50 or 2.8/65 flektogons would cover 67 fully. Who knows, though? ena v centru pozornosti na http://zena.centrum.cz - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions.
