Nice shot with some good potential. It's all in the rendering ...

Hi Godfrey, thanks for the suggestions.
It's a really weird colour balance picture. I'm not sure if it is because of
shooting at ISO 1600, or the hokey stained glass lampshades that was
providing most of the light or what.
Anyway, tried your suggestions, and I think this is an improvement.

Some improvement, I like the cropping more.

I think you've gone a little too flat in the rendering. It's lost
some of the richness and sparkle of the first rendering. A little
more contrast, a little deeper tone is where I'd try next, with this
as a starting point.

It might well be better to move to a monochrome rendering entirely
and tone it since the light is predominantly a monochromoatic red and
yellow anyway.

fun stuff. :-)

The composition is nice - very well framed. I think the DOF is just a
bit too shallow and it is a little too warm. Overall, very nicely
done.

I prefer the warm light original. It emphasizes the beauty of the
wood. To my eye it's far superior to this rendering.

Nice shot with some good potential. It's all in the rendering ...

- I like the warmth but find it's a bit too warm, it taints the
highlights and color of the fleshtones a bit too much for my eye.
Converting to BW, nipping up the contrast a little bit while
preserving the lower edge separation between hand and guitar, and
then bringing some of the color saturation back in to warm it up
might produce a more pleasing warm tonal rendition.

- Another thing is that I find the 2:3 oblong composition with the
neck of the guitar making a strong diagonal to a corner is a little
distracting, and the defocus as my eye follows the strings to the
corner adds to that distraction. A very nearly square crop focusing
on the hand, the ring, and the central part of the guitar body would
make a much stronger composition.

Hope that give you strength ... ;-)
