Re: Cameras you wish you still had
Hi, A: I have 'em all. I am a camera collector. Film cameras have become so cheap, that I have been easily bought those models back from eBay. B: Pentax 645N - the only camera I REALLY did not want to give back after testing ( I write the reviews for a local computer-photo magazine). It was tested together with some Hasselblad and Mamiya 645/6x6 cameras and for me, Pentax was really the best. I could quite easily buy a body with normal lens, but then (I jut know myself), it would sooner or later end up with series of additional lenses and accessories - and this is the expense I would rather avoid. A Contax RTSII with Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 - sold when I got divorced. As the lens said made in West Germany, it's probably worth more now. B Given that I rarely use my Z1p why would I want an LX and a MZ-S? It must be some form of addiction. Since I got my 67II, the only excuse left for poor pictures (apart from the useless photographer) is my lack of a Nikon 9000 scanner. When I was around age 14 or 15 or so, my grandfather gave me his Argus C-Forty range finder camera. I had no idea what it was, or how to use it, and i'm not sure he recalled how to use it. He purchased it while in the navy, and hadn't touched it in over 30 years. I don't know what became of it, it was shoved away, i never put film in it. A: What cameras have you owned that you wish you had never gotten rid of? Every camera I sold last summer, especially the 6x7 and MX. Someday I'll replace them, I hope. B: And, just for fun, what cameras have you lusted for but never had? Oohh, lots. Back at Reed's, I got to play with many professional and otherwise super-expensive cameras. The entire Hasselblad and Leica M lines are a good example of cameras I lusted after. I once got to borrow an M4 for a weekend, and a Hassy 501 (I think) for a week, and was immediately in love with them both. There are plenty of other cameras I've lusted after, but the only one I really ever wanted more than others was the Pentax LX, and really this is only because of the legendary status the camera holds amongst us Pentax fans. And because I can afford lenses for it... RE: Cameras you wish you still had
A: What cameras have you owned that you wish you had never gotten rid of? I wish I hadn't traded in my first MX on a Z70. I've since bought more MXen to replace it, but that's not quite the same. B: And, just for fun, what cameras have you lusted for but never had? I guess the 67II is the only thing that still falls into that category. Getting any type of 6x7 was a bigger yearning though, so I'm not losing sleep over it (I now have a 6x7 and 67) The only other cameras that I ever seriously lusted after were: MX (when I only had a K1000) Super Speed Graphic (last of the Graflex) Super D (top of the line 4x5 SLR) Kodak 1A (old style 8x10 portrait camera on a wooden stand) I've never been that interested in Leicas or Hasselblads even although I can see the quality. Thought it was time to reminisce again. I don't hang onto gear I don't use, and I'm not sentimental or nostalgic about gear I've owned. Cameras are tools. A: What cameras have you owned that you wish you had never gotten rid of? I never wish that I hadn't gotten rid of what I've sold, but the only camera that I actually miss now and then is the Hassy 903SWC. I sold it when I hadn't used it for over a year: it was too valuable to leave sitting in a closet unused. And I miss my favorite Minox B that traveled with me for several years all over the world. It was lost in shipping after a CLA, I didn't get rid of it intentionally. B: And, just for fun, what cameras have you lusted for but never had? None. If an infatuation with a camera reached the level of lusted for, I bought it. Took 35 years to reach that point with the Hassy SWC. At their price, that has to be a LOT of infatuation...
