Hi Toralf: What an interesting summer project! It's a nice set. On my
monitor the bw rendering looks a tad flat, but YMMV. I like a little more pop,
but I know that's subjective. Great set and good luck with your project.
Cheers, Christine

You may wish to note that these shots are essentially uncropped; I've trimmed
the images every so slightly where the scanner left skewed or jagged edges,
but that's it. So, they may say something about the full-frame performance
of the lens, although what I've done is nowhere near a scientific test.

Yes, it may be a matter of taste, or monitor adjustment, or both. I must
admit, though, that I find it hard to judge how much tonal adjustment
exactly ought to be applied. Some of it is always needed, as raw bw
film scans definitely look flat, at least with my scanner.

Great set and good luck with your project. Cheers, Christine

Lovely renderings. I wonder what a compare to digital view of same would
have been, e.g. take same view with a film and a digital camera.

A fine gallery, Toralf. T'ain't nuthin' wrong with that lens. Seems
like a future classic, well priced too.

Funny that some folks have been complaining there's no reasonably fast
normal lens in the Pentax lineup.

Quite. Like I said earlier, it sort of brings cheap plastic feel to a
whole new level, but I can live with that as long as the lens works
optically. And this also means it's really light, which can be very
convenient.

Well, you've got to have *something* to complain about...

Now, there's another interesting little project... You might take more
or less the same shots with this lens on a film and digital, or
alternatively use a 24 mm (which I have) on digital, to get more or less
the same field of view. I'm not sure I could get exactly the same
perspective from two shots in a row, though. Perhaps if using a tripod,
but I'd probably manage to change the setup slightly even then :-/

RE: GESO - Monochrome Summer

2013-08-04 Thread Gerrit Visser
It was more to get an impression of how film vs. digital BW looks to the
end user/viewer. Is the 'feeling' you get looking at the 2 images the same
or somehow different because it is film?
If you were to crop them to same view then you could use those to get
opinions.
