Har! I'll end up with a Pentax that works with Minolta lenses, and
Minolta lenses that fit on a Canon.

I just ordered a K-5II from Prodigital2000 on ebay, for $820. It should show
up on Wednesday with my new colormunki.

There is someone else that keeps bidding $810 for them, so mine, and
the previous winner went at $820.

On the plus side, when it shows up, I won't have to wait for hours
while the battery charges.

Note to self: when I'm ready to upgrade to the next new model,
by my third party spare batteries and charger before I buy the camera,
so that when it shows up, I can just pop a battery in and go.

Any recommendations for someone who would be willing to do a

Even if I lose shake reduction, if I can get he sensor straightened, and
get it converted to IR, that would be worth a bit of money. Especially
since with live view I could use it as an IR only camera if need be.

You could then send your camera directly to them.

K-5 crooked sensor repair

2013-06-21 Thread Larry Colen
I sent my camera in to criscam for a repair estimate on the crooked sensor.

The estimate came back as $437.

They said that making one good camera out of two would be more expensive.

It's looking like it's time to shop for a K-5II, and relegate this camera
to backup status. It does still take photos, I just don't get the advantages
of shake reduction.

Once you've replaced it, and you've got nothing left to lose, then go for it
dude!

Without knowing exactly why it's left in this crooked state, it's difficult to
say what it would take to jack it back into position and make it stay there.

Could be interesting to go into the camera from the back and see what's what...
hopefully not too much desoldering required for disassembly or it'll be a
one-way trip.

Professional Camera Repair does repairs on DSLR's. They are willing ot do IR
conversions and have a special service to fix DIY IR conversions. MIght be
worth an inquiry. They are engaged in some sort of fair trade lawsuit against
Canon, Nikon, Sony, Tamron and Olympus for refusing the sell them parts, so
