Probably taken by marauding African swallows, who bury them at the foot of palm
trees as an over-winter supply. It’s quite common here to see flights of
African swallows circling over the pier at dusk in large murmurations, laden
with overripe carved pumpkins, sometimes one in each foot.

2022-11-04 Thread David J Brooks
Alan, they are tagged for tracking and breeding purposes. Trumpeter swans
were near extinction and this farm I go to participated in a part of the
breeding program. The numbers are now up considerably and they are just
letting them breed naturally now

Re: OT Geso PAEC

2022-11-04 Thread Toine
Tagged for research. How long they live and where, migration etc. Most
birds are tagged with rings on their legs. Large tags like on the swans can
be read without catching a bird. GPS trackers are expensive and don't last
a lifetime.

I agree it is a nice gallery , and told Dave so in another post...

Dan, the swans are wild -   they are tundra swans. Black beak is the
key.  and so are the mallards , come to think of it ..

Yeah, Toine, those tags are awfully big.. ugh poor swan

So I headed over anyway and grabbed a few wildlife photos. Lots of ducks
geese and swans out.

Loved this set! want to pet that horse.. and there are many fine shots
of birdies -- nice geometry wise especially..

the moon shot has a surreal feel to it.. I like it!
