Well, it's better than the $95 that the hood and lens cap for my 1960 Leitz Hektor 135mm f/4.5 cost me. The lens itself, in mint condition, only cost me $190 with the original rear cap. :-/ G On Aug 18, 2013, at 10:56 PM, Joseph McAllister pentax...@mac.com wrote: 15 months ago I tapped the lens hood of my 60-250 on my car door as I was returning from some shooting. Re: On the ground
Last week I slipped and fell on a slick muddy trail. Then when I stood up, I bashed the top of my head on an overhanging tree which knocked me back down again. Not my most graceful moment! As I was standing there with blood running down my face and dripping off the end of my nose, (waiting for my companion to dig out something I could use to put some pressure on the wound) all I could think was that I had successfully held the K-5 and attached DA12-24 out of the mud and away from the dripping blood. Blood dries up, wounds heal, but to mess up a camera or good lens would be a real bummer! stan On Aug 18, 2013, at 8:42 AM, Rick Womer wrote: Paul, Three times now I've gone down while walking along, thinking about shooting rather than where I was going. On 6/8/08, Bob W, discombobulated, unleashed: I'll bet Cotty wished he had his video camera so he could sell the footage! Well, funny you should mention that! Actually, it happened while we were at the top of a mountain next to the city, reached by a funicular railway. As we walked out onto the viewing area it was obvious a fire was taking hold in the harbour below. We rattled off some shots and the thought had crossed my mind that either newspaper or TV might want the shot, but to be honest, I was on holiday and couldn't be arsed. Not exactly the White House going up in flames, just a local warehouse type building, and I couldn't see any flames anyway, just lots of smoke. 30 minutes later we were back down and the smoke was mostly gone, and by then I counted three news crews and a few snappers, so they had it all covered. To be honest, if I did make a sale, it would have been hassle sorting it out via phone conversations and then computer time and upload etc etc - while we had a 2 hour scheduled stop in Bergen, and then the fee - if they'd used the pic - would have only been in the region of a hundred quid or so - just not worth the hassle. If newspaper stills fees were ten times that, sure no problemo, but hey, I'm chilling out baby! Besides, Jostein got a much better shot than me - he had a 300 mil on a 1.5 sensor, while I only had 200 mm on a 1.3 sensor. Well, nothing was built on top of it, and it's un-restored, the earth works and stone retaining walls the held them in are still visible as was the back exit and the trench that constituted a kind of tunnel or covered way between the fort proper and the lower battery.. You should visit Crown Point sometime, now that's a place where nothings left. I believe it was as large a fortification as Ticonderoga in upstate NY and there's less to see than Griswold which was a much smaller fort. Both the latter forts were from an earlier era built by the super powers of the day, and Fort Ty has been extensively reconstructed. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: In a message dated 2/5/2008 7:09:33 A.M. Rather than being at the mercy of public budgets, Ticonderoga (originally named Ft Carillon when built by the French) has had the benefit of being in private hands with the intent of preservation since 1820, with research leading to renovation beginning in 1904.
