Really nice, PJ! The falls and the framing trees make one expect B, and the

PESO -- Chapman Falls: Winter 2021

I revisited Chapman Falls in the Devils Hopyard State Park, in East
Haddam, Connecticut.  Less snow this year than two years ago, it makes
for a better photo I think.  Almost monochrome.

Could you put some sort of plastic tent over them to protect them when
it finally does freeze? I've had to do that with my rose bush a couple
of times. Luckily for that, a big plastic garbage bag works just fine.

Notes:  The highlights in this were pretty blown out as the dynamic range of
the scene really exceeded the sensor's range by quite a bit.  I was able to
get some them back using the Dynamic Range expansion tool in Pentax Digital
Photo Utility.  I then imported the image into my ancient version of
Photoshop and made a minor sharpening and curves tweak then converted to BW
using the Photomatic BW Plus Plugin.  Added a grain layer, (from a frame of
actual developed and scanned BW film) to add a bit of texture to the blown
highlights more than anything, added a curves adjustment layer to increase
contrast because adding the grain layer kills some of the contrast, resized
for the web and then adjusted the micro contrast.  Then a Platinum tone,
because I always liked the idea of platinum printing.  Whew, still not
perfect but maybe good enough for the web.

It was a very cold, and I do mean very cold day...

Without your description, I wouldn't have noticed the blown highlights.
They're not really apparent in a snow scene where you expect the
highlights to be white. It's a good rescue.

Be careful, otherwise we might show you what they are good for.

Longships were well built craft, but the oceans are theorized to have
been much calmer in those days...

Be careful, otherwise we might show you what they are good for.

There are proofs indicating that a Norwegian using a long ship was the first
European that found America, so don't feel too safe over there ;-)

BTW. This post does not go well with the first part of my signature. Most
likely I am joking.

I hope not. It took me two goes to get one in big enough pieces to put

There was a fellow who proved in the 1970's that it was possible, by
sailing from Iceland to Newfoundland in a Longship. Same guy sailed
across much of the pacific on a raft a few years later.

Of course, the earth was notably warmer when Erik the Red sailed to
Newfoundland than it is today.

Not a bad word about long ships.
Be careful, otherwise we might show you what they are good for.

June 2-4 would be a great time to show us. We'll be fighting off an invasion of
drunken Canadians and one besotted Brit on those dates. You might as well join
the party:

Those are some very interesting archaeological sites.

so don't feel too safe over there ;-)

We know how to handle the likes of you and Jostein. We'll just give you all the
beer you can drink and send you home with your heads throbbing inside those
horned helmets of yours.

Yeah, I found Dave and Wheatfield's behavior to be somewhat

them, eh, Tom?

As for Cotty, well, I heard they're calling in extra security for him

Jostein is a gentleman, but he is a city guy. I'm a more rural type of guy,
so I'm quite a handful sometimes.

Sexist rant warning.
I would love to come over and drink your beer and rape your women. That’s
what Vikings do when going abroad. (Sexist rant over).
But I haven’t got the funds needed to get my longship off shore.
