So now that you've been digitized for a couple of months what's your

So many questions!

Well, I haven't picked up my film cameras since I got the *istD - the
novelty still hasn't worn off, and I really do like the idea of
shooting and not paying for it.

I certainly do shoot more now, without that financial constraint
hanging over my head. I carry it with me at all times, even to work
in my bike bag.

I find I'm still not doing much street stuff, and I think there are
several reasons for that. First of all, I don't have a computer with
PS or any other imaging software in it, so I can't convert to BW.
Also, I really don't to good street with a biggish (relatively
speaking) zoom lense. I think I need a short prime to stick on it -
the new pancake may be just the ticket. Still, I think I prefer an
RF (like my little Leica) for the street - I really should pull her
out this weekend and go shooting.

If nothing else, the *istD has kick-started my desire to get out and shoot!

I feel the same way. Most zoom lenses just don't make it for the kind
of thing I want when doing street work, the only one that seems an
exception to me is the FA20-35 due to its modest size and light
weight. And even it is bulkier than I'd like.

You want a DA21 Limited. It is a wonderful street shooter's lens.
Fitted with a sensible lens hood (not that ridiculous disk that
Pentax supplied with it...), the K10D with one of these on it is
compact and fun to carry anywhere.

If nothing else, the *istD has kick-started my desire to get out

Frank, you need a fast 50mm or 35mm equivalent. Say a 24mm or 35mm
f2.0. The M 35mm is a lovely match for the *ist-D and feels much like
a 50 f1.7 does the MX. It would be perfect if it weren't for the lack
of aperture information being communicated from lens to body. I haven't
actually used an A 35 f2.0 but I think that would be close to perfect,
if I could get on for not too much money. The FA 24 f2.0 would fit be
bill as a fast ~35mm except is seems to be a bit of beast next to the
diminutive M 35.

I like this one because of the no shelf thing, but the more I looked
at the first one, the more I liked it. Something about the colours,
some interesting shadows, the patterns of the books, plus, it may be a
 bit sharper.

I suppose it's six of one, half dozen of the other. It was a close choice...

Agreed, a close choice, but I also just prefer the one with the shelf.

Eric.

 So many questions!

Sorry ;-)

Well, I haven't picked up my film cameras since I got the *istD - the
novelty still hasn't worn off, and I really do like the idea of
shooting and not paying for it.

Novelty? Never did wear off for me and the cost that's something else,
looking back at how much I've paid for film and processing over the
years is scary indeed.

I certainly do shoot more now, without that financial constraint
hanging over my head. I carry it with me at all times, even to work
 in my bike bag.

Excellent, I have mine handy but I'm often without, I tend to have my
hands full these days.

If you have access to a computer and you can obtain permission to load
up a program the free Google Picasa program is quite capable. It can
handle *ist RAW files or JPGs, it does a decent BW conversion plus
you can use the application to automatically upload images for web
display using 1GB of free web space. Not a bad deal for the money! I
can provide some examples if you are interested.

Sounds like you need a decent little prime lens too, what's your
favorite street shooting FL in 35mm?

If nothing else, the *istD has kick-started my desire to get out and shoot!

That's great to hear, I suspect you're not alone in that regard.
