Pretty is an understatement. What a beautiful shot!

I love that part of the USA - not that I've seen much of your country,
but the green hills of Appalachia are surely gorgeous. You've
captured this scene perfectly.

Thanks, Marnie. I could have climbed the fence and gotten a low shot from the
near front corner of the house. Maybe I'll consider going back.
I varied the light and fiddled with BW, but this version simply best exposed
the scene. As I mentioned in another post, I want this sort of subject to be
well lit to allow a 'study' of its textures and detail.

Re: PESO: Tarke Homestead

2009-04-07 Thread Jack Davis

In this respect we are on the same wave length. It's the type of image that
either triggers a rewind of our migratory existence or imparts a mortality
melancholy.
Some try to find pictorial drama while others are comfortable lapsing into a
pensive stream of trenchant thought of the life journey.

Thanks, Frank!

Per your welcome comments, I knocked the lighting down slightly. It
does improve the 3-D look and adds some richness. Sky gradation is,
maybe, a little less distracting.

I'm not quite good enough with Photoshop to do that. I was talking
about the harshness of the light :-)

If possible I'd recommend re-shooting when the light was more
flattering to the scene.

I see. I appreciate the calming effect of subdued light in many many
cases. Might improve this..for many.
Not likely to re-shoot it as it's a couple hundred wrinkly miles away.
As I was shooting it, I was wishing the fronts of the buildings were
not in shadow. I feel, however, that the contrast has its benefits as
well, especially since the shadows held enough detail to satisfy me.

2007-08-27 Thread Jack Davis
On our (wife and I) way to the coast to escape the Northern California
