Yesterday I went to Union Suqare in San Francisco with the M100/2.8 on
the istD. I shot with the lens wide open and the camera on program
mode. I tried to keep my usual shooting distance, which was kind of
difficult given how long the lens is compared to what I'm used to.

Nothing amazing here, but I really liked the shallow depth of field.
Now I want a 35mm/0.95...

Thanks Jens.

I transform to bw with the actions and techniques of Petteri Sulonen,
as described in his page:

http://194.100.88.243/petteri/pont/How_to/n_Digital_BW/a_Digital_Black_and_White.html

I also do a bit of dodging and burning, although this M100/2.8 gallery
was put together quickly and I didn't do any of it on those images.

Cheers,

Beautiful work, Juan!

Now you've made me get my SMC Pentax-M 100mm f/2.8 out and start looking
for subjects...
This is a lens to be used in plenty of light, as it gets better the more
you close it down (check the specs) but if you do, it's plenty sharp!

As you can see, it's no slouch wide open, either! ;-)

Very good stuff, Juan.

since the 100mm lens is effectively the same
AOV of a 150mm lens on full frame 35mm format,
these photos clearly disprove that only a
85mm lens is good for portraits ( on full frame)
which would be the same as using a 55mm on
the istD which you didn't (100mm!).

This is why I like the 105 and 120mm
lenses for portrait lenses on full frame
as well as 85mm. You did fine with 150mm
equiv so 105 and 120 are certainly NOT
too long for portraits on FF as many would

I will use the 50mm lens on the istD for portraits small groups if I have
the space, but I prefer the 77mm for individual or couples, or groups if I
have the space.
I did a family shoot of 35 or so people the other day with the 77mm lens. I
was probably 50 feet back from them.
It was great, my assistant had to interact with them, and I barely needed to
acknowledge their existence.
