No discernible browser havoc, but there were some really great images.

Hell, use the 'distort' tool in Photoshop. Then you can get the
horizontals horizontal and the verticals vertical.

Or just enjoy the image for what it is.

Personally I'm not a strict advocate of the business of landscapes being
parallel/perpendicular to the base/ground. If it looks right, it *is* right !!

Prefer the other version. Your eye is right.

Thanks again, Cotty.

I'll likely never be a very good technical photographer. I seem to shoot
much more with my gut than my brain. That's not to say I shouldn't use
both, and strive for technical improvement. But, my sense of aesthetics
will always be dominant over my spatial perception.

I'd have to change the crop to a non-standard aspect ratio, but I could
get a little bit more.

Still, the horizon-corrected version leaves the image more unbalanced to
my eye -- to the point of physically tilting my head to the right.

Nevertheless, I do appreciate the suggestions. It'll give me food for
thought the next time I set up shots of that type -- and maybe even
cause me to consult the electronic level on the K-5!

Yep, - I think the vertical (and horizon) is proper now.
The slope of the land is not a problem. The axis of the symmetry is
now horizontal.

I see that the crop at the top and at the bottom (around the tallest

While it might be the result of the tilt, - but it seems to me

Re: PESO: Lake on an Early Autumn Day

2013-10-21 Thread Walt

Thank you, Igor.

I fiddled with the horizon in LR, but when I did, it still seemed a
little off to me. Part of it has to do with the earth having been a bit
more built-up along the right-hand side of the image compared to the
area at the left.

As for the colors, I guess that's just a quirk of mine. I've always
liked saturated colors, contrast and deep shadows. I guess I tend to
process my images according to the way I want the world to look. :)

Many thanks, Bruce.

We're just now getting into that part of the season, here in Kentucky.
It's nice to sleep with the windows open at night.

Though, I have to say, this summer was the most pleasant I can recall in
all my years living here. I have to say, I'm going to miss it.

Re: PESO: Lake on an Early Autumn Day

2013-10-21 Thread Walt

Thanks, Dan.

I really wish I could get down to the other wildlife preserve this time
of year. The lakes there are really beautiful at times, with lots of
cypress trees jutting out of them. It's really too bad that they close
the place down during the fall and winter months, but it stays flooded
throughout most of that time of year, so I figure they don't have much
choice. They'd be dragging people out of there every other day if they
didn't.

I'm loving the vivid colours.

Thank you very much, Cotty! I consider that high praise coming from you.

I've always been, and will likely always remain, a sucker for vibrant

especially gratifying when someone with your skill and experience sees

Walt,

It is a great catch!

However, two things disturb my eyes:
1. The (infamous) horizon, or rather vertical in this case is a bit
tilted CW: you can see that the subject and its reflection are not on the
same vertical line.
It is a small amount but sufficient for the eye to catch.

2. I don't know how it is on your screen, but on mine it seems
to be slightly oversaturated (or the contrast is too high).
