I wouldn't say you picked the wrong one, it is an m42 Pentax However, I believe that the SMCTak 85mm f1.8 is the considered better of the old 85's. That said, I have never been disappointed with the results from my 85mm f1.9 and if I were to seek another 85mm, it would be the A* 85mm f1.4 Is the SMC Tak 85 mm f 1.8 the closer relative to the K85 f 1.8? How much difference in quality is there? The SMCTak is the precursor to the K versions, but I suspect the actual differences are much due to the SMC - and either are better than any of the 3rd party screwmount 85's.
