Re: Helios 58mm, surprising!

Hi there,
older Helioses are single-coated.
The quality of those is a lottery, sometimes you can get very good one,
but mos of them are average. Or even worse.
As I do collect russian cameras, I have tens of Helios-44 (and versions)
lenses. I have found one that's AMAZINGLY sharp and contrasty. The same
way I can right now go to my shelf and take one full crap Helios-44M-4
lens from there...

Uncoated(?) Russian HELIOS-44M-4 58/2 lens.
Cost me a whole $14.67 US, shipped from Australia.
Sun in the upper left corner of the frame.
I figured it would flare like crazy, surprise.
Great portrait length on the D.
I think I'll like this thing!

This one's M42.
I got it off of eekBay, there's another one on there for $15.00,
just search for 58 or 58mm. I'll send you the item #.
I just picked up another similar one for $4.95 + $5.00 shipping.
This one is a 44-2 58/2, looks different but I can't say what's
different. Pretty cheap fun though. ;-)

Hey, Don, is that a K-mount or M-42 lens? I'm looking for some cheap
optics in order to fool around with some odds and ends projects. In any
case, where'd you get the glass?

The K mount version (Helios MC 44-K), multicoated version of this 58 mm.
lens, is surprisingly good. It is a bit warm, as other Russian lenses
I've had, but it performs really well.
