Looks like it could be a Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) from the general
morphology but they tend to be one of the last trees in leaf here. Have a look

We're living just around the corner to a street that leads to four big

I heard a great many blackbirds today, and saw a fox in the next street at

That will come in a few weeks, here. The yellow dust that even sticks to
vertical window panes and all the fluff from the poplars.

Then again, pollen is no air pollution.

It will be interesting to see if any wildlife returns to the city. We
haven't had any birds except crows, pigeons, magpies and the occasional

Not here in North Carolina.

All the pollen in the air it looks like I'm walking through a snowstorm when I
take the dog out at night. During the day it looks like a mad painter has run
amok with a tanker truck of yellow paint.

The other thing I've noticed ... I take the dog out really late at night so he
can do his business just before we go to bed. It's eerily quiet out there, like
a scene from one of those post apocalypse movies where they show all the empty
streets.

I think if I was a film maker, I'd be getting all the stock footage I could
while this is going on.

Re: PESO: Spring Dogwood

2016-04-24 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
Thanks, Paul, Ken, Ann and Rick!

After Magnolia season was a bust, I was pleased to see we are having
an e excellent Dogwood season.

It gets a bit tougher each year to photograph the red dogwood, as the
tree continues to grow, and the blossoms are just a bit higher off the
ground every year. Along with the breezy weather, that makes getting
the shot I want more interesting.

I love the dogwoods, however, and it is always a joy to record the
current season's splendor.

Nice shot, Jack.

FYI, that is just about the largest images that will display without scrolling
or resizing on the iPad Pro (12.9" version) in Safari.

Aside: The iPad Pro 12.9" screen is fantastic for displaying photos. It's very
very sharp and has excellent saturation and color without driving photos to a
cartoonishly over-done look.

2016-03-29 Thread Donald Guthrie
Interesting Dan, It was quite small on my monitor. In fact I magnified
it to fill my screen and I think I would crop it tighter than presented.
Cropping tighter off the top loosing some sky really emphasized the
trees & reflection as the subject & the foreground made feel like I was
about to step into the water. I know that wasn't your problem it was too
big on your screen I gather.

Nice image.

As it first appears on my desktop monitor, the image is WAY too large.
It is difficult to appreciate at that size.

Yes, I know how to zoom out, but ideally that should not be necessary
when visiting a photographic website.

Just my 2 cents. YMMV.
