Jack,
That's a lovely picture and I'd believe you found St. Ansel's tripod holes.
Something about it is a bit wierd on my monitor.
It looks more like a print - color and detail a bit flat.
Your other shot of the Tetons w/aspens was superior.

Thanks, Bob. All I can see that may contribute to what you're seeing, may be
the fact that the sun
was partially behind the bluff from which this was shot. Sun, essentially, just
clipping the tree tops
and smashing flat into the Tetons.
Please let me know your reaction.

Thanks, for commenting, Ken.
Of course you couldn't know, that mountain was possible 15 miles away. The
sparkelingly clear,
air high elevation allowed the detail you see.

Nice capture. By the look of the mountain it would appear a polarizer filter
would have helped with the haze.

Jack,

This is a very interesting image that made me wanting to go to that area
again.

As Ken wrote, either a polairizer or some post-processing
(presence and/or selective sharpening in LR or unsharp mask in PS,
possibly combined with selective (for the blue color) contrast
enhancement)) would help removing some haze from the back.

That would make this image even stronger.

On another hand, I suspect it might then look _differently_.

Igor and Ken, I have for a long while, carried a fat folding pouch of filters,

Besides this it is a well captured pleasing image. I like the colour mix,

I don't see the blocks in the sky you mention, but the peak is softer
than it app eats in a larger file. I'd bet that the mountain is
something like 30 or 40 miles away, but shot through what was probably
pretty clear vapor free air.

Thanks for comments, Tim!
Those blocks are curious. A loosy jpg, but still not opened enough to
have started showimg artifacts..I don't think.
Original is a large scan showing good detail. Teton peak was what I
focused on and with that lens set up, I found I couldn't just set it on
infinity and expect it to be the optimum focus.
I've read, and believe, that in the case of this elk of lens,
temperature can cause a variation in the focus. I've set the pre-focus
stop at times, but never leave it for very long without checking.

Re: PESO: Teton Fall 'PeaK'

2006-09-17 Thread Jack Davis
Hmmm..Ok. It may be that this old fat screen needs replaced.
The fall color is hampered by the sun angle being too much from the
side..I believe. Too late in the day.
If you'd like, I'll email you a larger scan off list. Just let me know.

I concur. The image is great. It looks like the image was saved in
 a
lower color resolution and is banding in the sky for lack of
 gradations.

 Wonderful shot, though.

MH I like the image, Jack. The colours work well together.
 However, the
MH scan seems to be quite poor. I notice large blocks in the sky,
MH particularly. The detail seems to have been lost in the
 mountain,
MH particularly. I wish i could see a much better scan, or the
 original!
