Maybe they've just been beat down like the Uwharrie Mountains of NC;
maximum elevation 1,188 ft. Supposedly 500 million years ago the
Uwharries peaked at over 20,000 ft.

Even though they're worn & stooped over now, they're still "mountains"
the way aging boxing legends are still "The Champ" long after the title
has passed on to younger contenders.

I was under the impression that there were no hills, let alone
mountains, that would offer that in the UP.

Not sure they would qualify as mountains relative to their western
neighbors but the image of Carp River was taken from the Lake of the
Clouds overlook in the Porcupine Wilderness State Park in the western
end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Its listed altitude is 1375ft,
with Carp River listed at 1076ft.

BTW the highest point in Michigan is Mt. Arvon, also in the western U.
P. is listed as 1979ft.

Thanks for commenting Alan.

The fall season offer many photo opportunities in Michigan.
The color change starts in the western part of the Upper Peninsula and
gradually heads east and then south to the Lower Peninsula.
There can be fall color somewhere on Michigan for 6 weeks or so, generally
starting late September most years.

Captured on film awhile back, probably with a PZ1-P and 70-210 f4-5.6 SMC
Pentax F.

This scene is in the Porcupine State Park in the Western part of the Upper
Peninsula of Michigan.

Comments appreciated.

Wonderful shot. A great fall color pic with the added interest of the
river, all nicely composed.
