It is actually in DNG as I set, so that's an improvement.

checked. The deep learning is just marketing. They used some deep
learning to come up with some better guesses on what settings to use.
Big whoop. I would say you are far better off without this.

I had hoped that they would use the many points to check for blown
highlights determine optimal ISO etc, but I guess not. OH well.

Scene Analyze mode

2016-11-23 Thread Larry Colen

Has anyone actually tried the "scene analyze auto mode":

http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/k-1/feature/05.html
Scene Analyze AUTO Much-improved accuracy, through the adoption of
artificial intelligence technology
Supported by the PENTAX Real-time Scene Analysis System, the K-1’s Scene
Analyze AUTO mode automatically optimizes exposure settings, and selects
the most appropriate finishing touch for your subject. When using the
optical viewfinder, it is also assisted by an algorithm that adopts the
deep learning artificial intelligence technology, and makes an extensive
analysis of a given scene based on the enormous volume of data
accumulated from previous scenes.

It claims to do all sorts of wonderful things, and I have long thought
about ways that things like exposure and color balance could be improved
by techniques like this. I've just never used auto nor P, because I
simply don't trust the camera to make the same priority decisions as I do.

I'd love to have the camera look at thousands of points when setting
exposure to make sure that it doesn't blow out the highlights, but when
I'm in TAv or Av mode.

I played with it briefly, but it seems to only work in manual ISO as well.
