Jeffrey:

Thanks for your response. I have not seen signs of larval activity yet, but
will post photos when/if I do.

Cheers,

Laura

Laura,

This does look very much like photos of the casemaking clothes moth that I have
seen, but there are so many similar species that I cannot be sure.

Have you seen signs of larval activity, such as their silken cases in wool,
felt, hair, or fur?

Hello:

I would appreciate help identifying these moths. They are just under ½ in
length. I think they may be case-making clothes moths, but am not certain.

Many thanks,

Laura

Thanks Tony for the advice. The elytra do look like those of the death
watch beetle. I should have mentioned that the specimen was collected in
Philadelphia. Has the death watch beetle been found in the United
States?

Cheers, Laura

The common European Death Watch Beetle does occur in the north-east of
USA, but there are an additional four (?) species that occur in North
America. I'm not familiar with their habits or how to separate them.

[pestlist] IPM policy research

Dear Pestlist:

I am the Mellon Fellow in Costume and Textiles Conservation at the
Philadelphia Museum of Art and am currently assisting with the museum's
pest monitoring and management programs. Eliza Spaulding, the Mellon
Fellow in Paper Conservation, and I are researching different
institutions' IPM policies. We hope to gather a number of policies,
which we can then share with members of the PMA's Conservation
Department as we work to create an IPM policy here. The IPM policies
posted on museumpests.net have provided a great starting place for our
research. While many pest concerns are common to all museums, we would
be especially interested to read IPM policies from museums with fine art
collections. If you are able to share your institution's policy with us,
please email me at laura.m...@philamuseum.org

Thank you for your consideration and best wishes for the new year.

Cheers,

Laura Mina
