[Phono-L] Wayne Show Photos Les Paul Museum

2013-10-22 Thread Robin Joan Rolfs
Greetings,

On a beautiful fall day in Wayne NJ the Mechanical Music Extravaganza was held
at the Wayne P.A.L. An informal Parking lot get-together was held at the
Wayne P.A.L. on Saturday October 12. It was larger than ever with dealers from
throughout the world.

The show held on Sunday October 13 with the doors opening at 8:00 a.m. for
early buyers. The show was very well attended and we feel attendance is
improving every year. We thank Michael Devecka for putting together this
outstanding phonograph show.

Photographs of the parking lot sale and show can be seen on the WIMAPS
(Wisconsin Illinois Musical and Phonograph Society) website at:

www.wimaps.org

You may also enjoy viewing photos of the Les Paul exhibit at Waukesha County
Museum located in Les Paul's hometown of Waukesha Wisconsin. The museum opened
a permanent 2000 square-foot exhibit called The Les Paul Experience honoring
the icon who died in 2009. It is the most comprehensive exhibit in the country
on Les Paul.

He is known for inventing the electric guitar in 1929. In 1952 Gibson Guitar
began mass producing a guitar based on Paul's design. The rest is rock and roll
history. Together with his wife Mary Ford, he earned 36 gold records for hits
including Vaya Con Dios and How High the Moon, which both hit No. 1. Many
of their songs used overdubbing techniques that Paul had helped develop.

The museum is exhibit is more than just artifacts, it is homage to a man who
was extremely proud of his Midwest home town and really wanted to be remembered
as the Wizard of Waukesha. WIMAPS members also visited his impressive
gravesite at Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha, WI.

A reminder to all phonograph collector to join the Antique Phonograph Society.
MAPS and APS have merged into one society and will appreciate your support of
the phonograph hobby. You can download a membership form at:

John,

Here is a link to the definitive catalog of Columbia Disc machines.

http://www.mulhollandpress.com/Columbia.htm

It has been out of print for many years, the replacement is available only in
digital form and has more content. The last two printed books I saw at the
Union show went for over $100 so for $15 this is a bargain.

Good luck with your machine,
Mark in MD

1915 is the date given in the Col. book. It sold for $150.00 and had the
additional option of the record ejector in the storage area. Not much else
about it.

[Phono-L] Grafonola for sale

2013-10-22 Thread Ron L'Herault
A friend in Attleboro, MA has a Grafonola for sale. It is in nice
condition, especially the bright work. The metal shines! Arm and elbow
move freely. I believe it is a Model 75. He's moving to a much smaller
space and cannot keep it. He wants it to go to a good home. It would have
to be picked up or the buyer would have to arrange shipping. I'll provide
his phone number to anyone interested. Everyone should have at least one
Grafonola in their collection.

Your mention of an owners manual brings up an observation. I have and have
seen manuals for Edison and Victor, for many different models but almost
nothing for Columbia machines. Did they not provide a manual?

[Phono-L] No reports of Wayne show?

It's over a week since the Wayne show and there usually a couple of
reports on attendence, new items (like the repro berliners last time and the
Phonograph Conversations DVD. So any reports would be welcome.

Thanks Joan. I guess I posted too soon (though reports from others would be
appreciated). I recognized the regulars like The Gfells, Charley Hummel,
Steve Oliphant, Mike and Carolyn Devecka and Tom and Sandy McCarthy. Quite a
few were not familiar to me. Probably know their name, but not their face.

2013-10-22 Thread Arvin Casas
They did.

I have the remnants of part of one, specifically for the Grafonola 75. It
is a single sheet, roughly letter sized, folded to make a small booklet of
4 pages. I suspect there may have been another spread of 4 as there are
staple holes on the surviving sheet. Additional spreads may have been
included, but I can't be sure.

There is also a multi-model booklet in reproduction often for sale on
eBay. It is also available digitally for onscreen reference only (it is
not printer friendly): http://www.nipperhead.com/old/colgraf.htm

Re: [Phono-L] No reports of Wayne show?

2013-10-22 Thread William Zucca
OK Steve:

The parking lot on Saturday morning was the biggest I remember, perhaps
because the weather was so nice. It was a preview of the Sunday but there
were some people with stuff to sell that were not among the vendors on
Sunday. I bought about 40 records including two electric Diamond Discs for
$5 each.

The show on Sunday was, as far as I can tell, well attended . My sales of
low-end machines and records were the best ever. My daughter was at my
table and did most of the record sales. I think she probably gets the
prize for the youngest sales clerk. There were few floor machines offered
for sale which seems to continue the trend of the past few years. The
usual vendors set up at the usual tables.

Perhaps others can give different perspectives of the show.

Regards,
Bill Zucca
