[Phono-L] Mystery Box
Andrew, I have an identical box which was in the bottom of an Edison Opera when I bought it. The box came complete with a small wood handle screw driver in one of the holes and a Perfect Pocket Oiler in the other. The original instructions which also were in the bottom of the Opera noted in the packing slip that the shipment contained One Oil Can, One Screw Driver, and One Piece of Cheese Cloth. The box appears to have been original with this Opera but I have never seen another Opera with one. Since you found one in a DD, perhaps he supplied this with several models at least for a short time. Bill Boruff Dallas,Tx ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.org
[Phono-L] Horse Race Puzzle Record
It sounds as if there are several horse racing puzzle records and I have yet another one. It is a 10 inch 78 rpm puzzle record issued by the Record Games Company of Hollywood, Calif. On one side is a Horse Racing Mystery with 6 tracks - each having a different winner. The flip side is The Lucky Thirteen Game which is a roulette game with 13 tracks. I suspect this was a board game but really don't know. If anyone has info on this record I would appreciate hearing from you. Regards, Bill ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.oldcrank.org

Re: [Phono-L] re mirek and his prices
Mike - I agree with you I have purchased several parts from Mirek and have always been very satisfied with both the quality and the cost which is only a fraction of what an original part would cost - assuming you could find one. As far as shipping goes, it is expensive to ship out of the country. Shipping a 4 pound 1 ounce package from the US to Canada costs a minimum of $27.00 via USPS and it doesn't take much to weigh 4 pounds. I certainly hope that suppliers like Mirek continue their valuable contribution to our hobby. Bill On Apr 28, 2010, at 1:31 PM, Mike Stitt wrote: Whoa, Many people that make parts come and go. Good quality reproduction parts can turn a machine useful and displayable until an original part can be found if at all. I take a different view, I'm very thankful all these people do what they do and I doubt they are getting rich and perhaps in many cases just covering cost. Regardless of shipping cost or attitude I appreciate having the option. He is after all making parts for a very limited production run. Now if you pay a parts supplier and don't get your parts that is a conversation to have. Oldcranky Mike On Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 10:47 AM, john9...@pacbell.net wrote: Agreed. Shipping from Canada is always more expensive in my experience. If you want an inflated price for shipping try the $10 I was charged to ship 0.1 pounds (less than two ounces) of repro car parts from PA to MA. They use UPS. The post office would have cost under $2.00 I'll bet. Re: [Phono-L] Shipping phonographs
Steve- FedEx does not always use kid gloves when handling packages. During this past year I shipped a banner front Edison Home in 3 boxes with each carefully packed to withstand any rough handling. One box was for the case, one for the mechanism and one for the horn. The mechanism was badly damaged when the tines of a fork lift went completely through the center of its box. The motor frame was broken into pieces and the bolts holding the motor frame to the bedplate were sheared off. It was the last time I shipped a machine via FedEx! Bill On Jan 1, 2010, at 3:34 PM, Steven Medved wrote: I highly recommend if anyone purchases a phono that the seller says will be sent UPS, ask them to send it Fed Ex ground. I have had 2 triumphs and an order of auto parts damaged by UPS. UPS is wonderful for small, light parts, but larger ones seem to get dropper or crushed by their automatic alligator mouth sorting system. Save a phono, use Fed Ex. Also Fed Ex is much easier to collect from if there is an accident. Steve ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.oldcrank.org ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.oldcrank.org
