I am Phonofreak56 and I have over 1600 pos. feed-backs. I got booted off ebay(no great loss) because I refused to pay by pay pal. Here's what happened: There were 2 newbie sellers that didn't mention pay pal only or required. I win the items and immediately ask the sellers for their address so I can send payment. No response came to me. A few days later, I get an email asking why I haven't paid. I respond that I need an address so I can mail payment, and pay pal only or required was not stated. A few days pass and I get two strikes for non payment. I sent an email saying that pay pal was not mentioned in the auctions. I get a canned answer from someone who doesn't know English. My question was skirted and avoided. The straw that broke the camel's back went like this. I won a really nice VV50 with a 3 digit serial number. I paid for the item and had it in my possession. Then I get a third strike and booted off. Like before, I emailed ebay and the typical response like before. The buyers have no rights and it sucks being at the mercy of an unscrupulous seller. They will take the word of a newbie with 20 pos. feed-backs over some one with over 1600. Go figure. Now I buy from fellow collectors and from shows. F**K ebay. I have no use for it. Message-ID: c66.19bb9af2.341f6...@aol.com Greetings Rob: That is the third time that put together machine has been auctioned on eBay. Something is wrong somewhere. The cabinet is correct for a late Edison coin op but the bedplate has holes for a spring motor which were not drilled for the electric coin machines. The Triumph Model B topworks with the latchgate is correct for 1906 cabinet but since you are not shown the topworks in detail you cannot see if the mandrel shaft drive pulley was the larger diameter or the normal size as would be found on the spring driven Triumph. The AC/DC motor is from much later and would never have been found on this date machine. The trip arm is home made at best and not original. That is the tip of the iceberg. Lastly this machine was on eBay earlier this year. If my memory serves it once sold as a Buy It Now of $7,500. A one day auction on eBay for a rarity is usually to pull in the neophytes who then don't have the time to research authenticity and value. Automotive CD player technology has improved over the years. The older ones did have a tendency to skip more than what came later. You might want to try again if it's been a long time since the first attempt. If the road is rough enough, the new ones can skip as well. [Phono-L] Phonograph toy
I know Charlie Wetherbee made some of these, so I don't know if it was original. He is the one that does the reproductions. He rarely displays them because of what they are. But if you ask him, he usually has a few. ** AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at http://www.aol.com. This very riske' toy just sold. And what an interesting sale. Only one bidder. But he really wanted it. This couple seems of indeterminate age and could be a recent reproduction. But it is in no reference books that I have seen-- perhaps because authors have been too embarrassed to include it in their picture books. Has anyone ever seen this before? Could it be very old? I just can't be sure. Check out eBay #320093801486 Then check out the bid history Thanks, Art Heller ** AOL now offers free email to everyone. The listing is the same as one listed about a year ago, pictures and all. I have emailed the seller for more information and pictures and I received an email back saying he can't email more pictures. The Ebay ID is from Alabama I believe, the seller emailed me that the phonograph is in Miami. When asked if it could be picked up and paid for in cash if I was that highest bidder there was no reply. Sounds fishy to me. Also, I was informed from another person familiar when it was listed before that it had a pretty high reserve on it. There is no reserve now. [Phono-L] Recorder
I have finally got to a strange electronic recorder that I got in a cylinder cabinet I purchased a few years ago. It fits in a large carriage Edison Cylinder player and has a Stanton?? 500 cartridge and 2 different stylis that are marked 2 and 4. It has a standard RCA push type jack on the top. I am not sure how to post a picture of it. Any information about how to use this recorder would be helpful and greatly appreciated. I have never seen one before. Please e-mail me of list for pictures. Thanks, Bob
[Phono-L] Recorder
I think that is what it is. I tried hooking it up to an aux. jack on a small system and it did not work. I think I need to plug it in a phono input on a system to get it to work correctly. I will try that soon. Thanks
