[Phono-L] Medicophone Cylinder Record
All, I'm not a record colletor, but I thought the Medicophone cylinder record which sold on ebay?this past weekend was very interesting?(the price would suggest I'm not the only one).? Item # 140233827693.? The record, which came in it's?original box from US Everlasting?was titled Pathology of Pregnant Woman.???Does anyone have additional?information about these recordshow many were produced in the series, titles, etc.??I assume they were not a big hit and are quite rare, and it would be interesting to learm more about the series.? Thanks, David Boruff?
[Phono-L] Question Re: Diamond Disc Records
All, While going through some of my Diamond Disc records, I found 2 white label # 82171 (Silent Night). On the top half of the lable, one reads Edison Record and the other reads Edison Re-Creation. Does anyone on the list know the significance (if any) of the two different labels? Thanks in advance for your help, David Boruff Check out the new AOL. As far as I've ever known, it was strictly a marketing thing, maybe having to do with the Tone Test demonstrations? My dad once remarked that my one prized DD, In The Baggage Coach Ahead by Dalhart Co, might be anywhere from 5 years to 50 to however many old, being a 're-creation'. With all the pride an indignant 13-yr old could muster, I respectfully pointed out that it was Edison's ego that titled the disc thus, that it was no mere recording but a re-creation of the original performance! Funny how that's the unattainable benchmark against which today's highest-fi electronics are pitted. I'm certain the more researched folks on this list will have a more specific answer for you, however. I've wondered about the specifics myself. [Phono-L] Early Home configurations
Ken, George Paul wrote a very nice article for the September issue of The Sound Box which details the early Edison Home configurations. The article also includes a chart containing production dates by serial # (your #884 was produced in June, 1897). I'd be happy to mail or fax you a copy of the article. If you're interested, please send me your address (or fax #). David Boruff -Original Message- From: k...@lemur.org To: phono-l@oldcrank.org Sent: Thu, 5 Oct 2006 7:00 PM Subject: [Phono-L] Early Home configurations I'm looking for information on the early Edison Homes. In Tim's Compendium on page 56 he shows a machine owned by Bill Koker that is serial number 394. It has the rectangular hole in the top casting. I have serial number 884 that is identical in all respects except for the rectangular hole. It appears the early machines had a unique half nut arm, fingers to hold the reproducer carraige at rest, a brass mandrel, a rectangular hole in the casting, and I'm not sure if there were motor differences. The write up in the Compendium indicates that the fingers and hole were soon abandoned. Based on my machine, it is apparent that the features did not disapper together. Do any of you have any information, by serial number, on when the different features were initiated and when they disappered. I'm also curious when the C reproducer holder on the carriage was discontinued. [Phono-L] Wanted: Morning Glory Horn/s with flowers
Mario, I recommend you consider purchasing original horns restored / repainted by Norm and Janyne Smith. They do an absolutely outstanding job and their horns are reasonably priced considering the quality. I wish I had room to display more. Below is a link to their website. http://www.wwindups.com/Pages/Originalhorns.htm Good luck, David Boruff -Original Message- From: mari...@optusnet.com.au To: phonol...@yahoogroups.com; phono-l@oldcrank.org Sent: Sun, 29 Oct 2006 5:07 AM Subject: [Phono-L] Wanted: Morning Glory Horn/s with flowers Hi Folks, This may seem like a strange request but I'm after a few morning glory horns with flower decorations, I'd like to get a few to make shipping (to Australia) a small 'stack' more economical than one horn.
